I sold an item on EvilBay and got a message from the customer that they received the wrong item. Well sure enough I managed to send out the wrong item. :o So I quickly sent out the purchased item, with a pre-paid return label/postage so they can return the original item back.
So my question is would you return the wrong item back or keep both items?

Return wrong item. Also, you are too nice. Make the other guy ship the wrong item back first. Plenty of large companies do that.

I'd return it, but I can't say that everyone else would. Like Kabong said, next time let him ship the wrong item back first.

I have had this happen and as long as the seller is willing to pay for the shipping back, I'm all for sending the wrong item back - HOWEVER, if the seller thinks the buyer should pay for the wrong item to be sent back or the seller can't get their ducks in a row and get the buyer the correct info to send the item back, then I say keep it...
Happened to me once too - seller wanted me to send them back and then they would "reimburse" me the shipping cost - I was like "uh...no." They sent me a pre-paid shipping label with the wrong amount on it and it wouldn't mail - came back to me - the least they could do was make their address the sender and receiver so they would get it no matter what...ended up keeping a single figure in that case - gave the figure to Toys 4 Tots :D

Depends if they seller (who messed up) expects the buyer to pay for the sellers mistake, and how much of an arse the seller's being.

I am the seller and I did NOT expect the buyer to pay for my mistake. I sent out a second shipment with the correct item along with a pre-paid USPS label to return the wrong item. We'll see how honest my customer really is.

My post was a general rule of thumb for dealing with strangers.
In this specific case (someone who fessed up to the mistake, and is paying shipping), I'd have no problem returning it.

If you sent a pre-paid envelope or sent me money to cover shipping, I would return it no problem. Most sellers don't ask for **** ups, and simply consider their mistake. Wound up with 3 copies of Luis Royo's Prohibited 2 that way.

I'd def return it and send you some hot nekkid pics of me as a bonus if you were a hot chick.
I always return the wrong item, unless I was explicitly told to keep it. Even then, I'd probably return it.

Years ago I pre ordered a Bowen Sabretooth bust on eBay and the seller ended up sending me 3 of them once they finally shipped out. I contacted him about it and sent the extra two busts back to him and was reimbursed for the shipping costs.
More recently right here on the boards a seller sent me an item that was meant for another board member. The seller was actually quite an ass about the whole thing, especially considering it was all his mistake, but I ended up sending the item to the person who was originally supposed to get it at my own expense.

I've had this happen before, and the store was usually all "keep it" so I kept it. I've never been in a situation that I had to actually make a decision like this.

I've done both before, kept something that it turned out I didn't pay for, and sent back something sent by mistake. If I get a positive response from the seller and a label, it's definitely going back to the rightful owner. If there's no response then I don't worry about it.

Just the thought of getting a nekkid picture of yourself would prompt me to let you keep it! :o

I would return it. I would be really tempted not to if say you sent a $200 item when i paid for a $10 item. If someone says they would not be tempted you got to wonder. :) I would end of shipping it back or karama will hit you back worse! I would make sure they send a mo to cover the cost or a prepaid sticker.

Um, of course you return it. That's like common sense-you don't get what you wanted if you don't send back the wrong item. Was there ever any debate about this? I thought that's how the system worked.

You would think, but with people's values lately, you kinda wonder how honest people really are. Without a doubt I would return it, and with the responce here today I get a feeling my customer would also return it or better yet buy both. :D

Yeah. I mean, I can understand debating whether one should pay for the return shipping, but the basic premise should still be that you only get what you pay for.

I would return especially if a prepaid label was sent to me along with the correct item. If the seller said to keep the item then I would keep it. Kudos either way.
