Sweeet.
Crouch poses?
Gonzo22
12-11-2008, 11:20 AM
Unfortunately, that is about as crouched as he gets- you'll note that his knees only bend back so far before his upper thigh hits his lower leg. Compare to the recent pics of him upright and you will see a difference though. While about an inch lower would rock, what we get is still mighty cool.

Aww. How articulated are the spines?
Gonzo22
12-11-2008, 11:27 AM
First ya got to pop them into his back and hope ya don't impale yourself:) Spines are very SHARP and pointy. So they have lil ball joints for some slight movement, enough for variety. Pinchers on both hands also open and close, waist swivels, shoulders, thighs, knees and elbows. Pretty good range of movement all around. Head doesn't squish down though.

AWESOME!
Does the armor on his back pop off beneath the spines (to simulate the in-game battle damage)?
Dang... can I beg you for more pictures? :)

Over 80 photos isn't enough? ;)
Armor on back does not come off.

Yeah, sorry about that - I just noticed the MASSIVE GALLERY pics you posted. Thanks for letting us know!
So far, how is the figure measuring up from a review standpoint?

It rocks. Only thing that isn't super-duper McFarlane quality is the paint apps. They work well for what it is, a $19.99 toy, but they could be a tad better (better weathering, more metallic blue sheen). Small complaints though, folks will be getting their money's worth with this guy and should be very happy.

Ugh, here I go again....
Is the scale right? The Hunter looks almost too big compared to MC.

Yup. That's the right scale. Those suckers are HUGE.

The Halo 3 Hunter was a bit larger than the Halo 2 hunter. They have a size comparison chart in that bestiary book that came with the Collector's edition. Suffice to say, the scale of the figs matches up on this one.

$20. I think you can still preorder at BBTS.
Thanks for the pics. I was thinking about canceling my preorder but after these pics I think I'll keep them. I like the scale of the figs. Thanks again.

for the "crouch" did you try roating his torso forward on the hips as well so that he was kind of bending over a bit?
in-game the back and "abs" don't really crunch at all. The Hunters just kind of lean that massive body forward and bend the knees with a smidge of crunch right where the chest meets the plating underneath
I didn't see any photos like that and it looks like it could work just fine... or would the weight make that impossible?
Gonzo22

I crouched him best I could without having 'em keel over. It is a balancing act, especially with his weighty arms. Your mileage may vary. Just fiddled with em some more and got him slightly lower, but what I shot is your best "ain't gonna fall without standing straight up" pose :)

As big as this guy is and with the giant feet, and you're telling us he has a balance problem?
Gonzo22
12-11-2008, 02:52 PM
If ya have em squatted with his arms stretched out, yes. They are big feet, but skinny. The whole balancing act I mentioned was in reference to trying to achieve an extreme crouch and firing position. Otherwise he holds poses quite well. The thing has some heft to it - no cheap hollow vinyl here.

So I'm a bit confused on the waste joints-is it purely swivel or is there a little bit of rocker to it too? AKA, is it on a ball joint like the Brutes/Spartans or can it just turn like the ODSTs?

I like the worm guy. I'll get him as my 1st halo fig. The crouch looks more like a squat tho coz of the bending limits

The waist is mostly swivel, but it does have some slight back and forth (rocker) movement. Not a whole lot - 1/2 inch at most. So in a nut shell, appears to be a ball joint, albeit, one with limited rocker motion.

Gonzo thanks for the review and photos. I have one question for you. Does this happen to look better painted in person? I am happy about the green paint but the rest shocked me. Thanks again for showing me this.
I can repaint them to my liking. I am just curious if they are better looking paint wise in person. I am wondering know how many i want to order now.

As I pointed out in my review, the paint could have been better, but it isn't a deal breaker. It looks just fine with the rest of my collection. There's lots of dings, dents and detail in his armor though that could benefit greatly from a little brushed silver/ black wash to simulate battle wear. Some brushed metallic blues would really make him pop too. May add em all in later. So yeah, with just a little custom paint skills, one could make the Hunter look much better. Course you can say that about any mass market toy. For a $19.99 mass market toy, the paint apps are just fine.

Thanks that was what i wanted to hear. I was just curious to see how many i wanted to buy for my sealed collection and opened sets. I do customs so i knew i would be doing a bunch of repaints of these. I want to try to modify it so it can crotch more as well. I bet with a nice wash and weathering these would really pop!
I will show a bunch of them customized when i get them in.
