Anyone believe if Steve mason gets the columbus bluejackets to the playoffs we will win vezina? possibly MVP??

He should win the Calder with his stats right now IMO.

I think if he does get CBJ to the playoffs, the MVP has to be given a serious nod(like ovechkin last year).

Then that leads to , if MVP is good then is Vezina worthy enough?

Just curious on what your guys think.

yes to calder, no to the others unless he puts up huge numbers down the stretch

I think that if the Jackets make the playoffs (If there truly is a God, Please!), I think that he should definitely get serious MVP consideration. We all loved Leclaire and now we couldn't care less if he see's the ice again. Shutout #6 tonight!

I think if the Jackets make the playoffs, he wins Calder and Vezina. Think Tom Barasso, Ed Belfour.

if he stays #1 in GAA and Save % and gets into the top 10 in wins i don't see why he wouldn't win the vezina and calder, MVP is a stretch though

I picked him up in my fantasy pool as well after he got his first win. Suffice to say it's paid off.

I believe Veznia is a shot, but Timmy Thomas and Backstrom, even Nabokov are infront of him for that.

Calder, yes, Vezina, he simply doesn't have enough starts to pile up the wins like some of his competitors yet.

Definitely the Calder .... no other rookies can compare to his numbers.

Versteeg is doing well, but I'd still give it to Mase.

Ranks 1st in:
SV%: .939
GAA: 1.74
SO: 6

Hope he doesn't implode, or have ONE good season, then fall flat on his face.

Do the CBJ want to send Leclaire to the Flyers? :D

Brodeur
01-10-2009, 11:17 AM
If he continues to play like that he'll get the Calder and Vezina, if nobody else comes up really huge. If the Jackets make it to the PO's he sure got a shot to be MVP. But still a lot of hockey to be played!

vezina will be wide open with 2 premier front runners sustaining long term injuries this season, Brodeur and Luongo.

If they were to chose today the 3 finalists I would say:
Henrik Lundqvist, Steve Mason and Tim Thomas

Well he's certainly pulling away in the Calder race and could very well get himself some serious Vezina votes dependant upon how the Jackets finish. Not sure about the Hart though. Ovechkin, Datsyuk, Thornton and some others are stronger candidates right now.

The worst part about Jim Carey is he has Chris Osgood's Vezina sitting on his shelf . Check out the stats from 1996 and tell me how he won it over Osgood

If you think that with the NHL writers voting on this award, that King Henrik is not a finalist, even with someone having better numbers, you are mistaken.

Stave Mason has to be the front runner for the Calder right now, and if he can continue to play the way he has and be at or near the top in GAA, save percentage and shutouts and win 30 games he could get the Vezina as well. He's got 15 wins in 25 games so he could easily do it and I think considering the number of games he's played it would certainly warrant winning the award. He's tied for 10th in wins as it is so he continues to play well he could potentially crack the top 5 in wins.

The Hart is a long shot. If Columbus makes the playoffs and he continues to put up stellar numbers he certainly should get consideration.

it is funny you mentioned Jim Carey! I was thinking of him when I made a deal for mason.....just thinking oh god please don't be that carey bum!!LOL

Not like they beat a good team tonight. :D

That being said, while watching part of the first period of the game tonight, noticed a crapload of empty seats.

I jokingly said to the wife that it might be faster and easier to count the fans rather than the empty seats.

Now that he's creeping into the Top 10 in wins, he's going to start catching the eyes of the voters when it comes to the Vezina, he's got the Calder pretty much locked up though especially if the Blue Jackets continue to hold on and make their first playoff appearance in franchise history.

WingNut 25
01-31-2009, 01:23 PM
He could very well pull off the double (Vezina and Calder) since no other goalie is having one of those stand-out seasons in the league.

cflames89
01-31-2009, 03:25 PM
Calder for sure is his to lose now.

As for the Vezina, I think there could be some stiff competition from Kiprusoff and Nabakov, especially considering both of them are on pace to challenge the single season win mark.

He's a great goalie, but I hope he gets murked by the Blues on the weekend
or at least allows more goals in each game than CHRIS Mason.

These Mason's are unbelievable though, hopefully the stats on each is influencing the other to become better contenders.

As well as Mason is playing and he is playing lights out the Columbus team as a whole is playing real well Hitch**** has them playing like Dallas of the late 90's . Having 2 of the top 5 faceoffmen in the league sure helps as well
