heya peeps,

i think some of the fellow boardies might have seen this elsewhere on other forums, but i just thought i'd share with you guys all the same.

the designs on these (esp the gas masks) were inspired by ashley wood's work. these are a set of 7 playmobil figures i did for a local arts show. entitled "a curious panorama of corporate utopia", the works revolve around the emphasis of time and reality and chronicle the struggle between 2 factions, The Corporation and Rebel 'R' Us.

regular playmobil bases were used, with the additional gear and heads sculpted with epoxy putty.

went a little crazy with the pics, so if you'd like to see more do check out my site.

cheers

As with a lot of art, I'm not sure I "get" them, but certainly they are very well done from a craftsmanship standpoint.

I'm not going to lie. Those are really cool. At first glance I'd have never guessed they were done with Playmobil bases. The style is different and very appealing. It's also really nice to see the in-progress stuff and the scultping work behind the paint.

Great job.

thanks for the replies chums!

I felt that the playmobil's simple and generic style would lend itself as custom bases and i wanted the customs to have a stark contrast from the normally very 'rosey, fine-and-dandy' looking ones you get off the shelf.

on a side note, we've got a local saying called the 5 Cs, which pokes fun and refers to materialism over here (as a measure of success, you'd need lots of Cash, own a Car, have multiple Credit Cards, live in a Condominium and be a member of a Country club). and hence the 5 characters all having names beginning with C. lol believe me i did try to think of a word other than chink (i'm asian myself), although the corporate chinese just didn't seem to cut it..

much love
