my guess? to find their vehicle and get a plate number and maintain visual contact until the on-duty officers arrived.

They did threaten him, and before he told them he was a cop. I don't know what they expected was gonna happen.

It's not the intimidation that's illegal it's the form of it. You can be as intimidating as you want you just can't threaten to shoot them.

At least he didn't threaten to cut the cop's trout.
Of course if it was Oakland, the cop would've just shot him in the back

When Kirby asked Pluhar Sr. what his intentions were, the Frankfort man purportedly said he would kick Kirby's posterior
i highly doubt he said "posterior"...that would be the most classy walmart duel ever.

"No, no, my good man. Allow me to inform you that while I am not currently on watch I am in fact under the employ of Her Majesty's Police Department. Furthermore, should you persist in this brutish behavior, I shall be forced to lodge a bullet in your spine forthwith."

I know it's fun to jump to conclusions, but there was probably more to the situation. I read the AP version of this story and it had both sides of the story.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090113/ap_on_fe_st/odd_cutting_in_line
Pluhar Sr., however, gave a different version of events leading up to his arrest.
"There's a lot more to the story," he said.
He said his son had waited in line for 25 minutes once and been sent by a clerk to exchange an item. When he returned, Pluhar Sr. said the clerk waved his son to the front of the line, and Kirby objected.
He said his son tried to explain the situation, but Kirby insulted him, at which point Pluhar Sr. asked Kirby to step outside but Kirby laughed at him. Pluhar Sr. also denied Kirby's claim that the older man threatened to shoot him. He said he and his son tried to walk away from the confrontation, but Kirby followed them outside.
Pluhar Sr. said Kirby never identified himself as a police officer and he only found out he was an officer from other police at the scene.
"What I did was wrong, but that doesn't make what he did right," Pluhar said.
It just as easily could have been a cop on a power trip.

I wouldn't be suprised. Still can't threaten a cop and get away with it, either way lol.

Well, if his point of view is correct he didn't threaten the cop with a weapon. He just asked a man (he didn't know he was a cop) who was insulting his son to "step outside". I don't condone the behavior, but I also can see how he'd be upset if someone was talking smack to his son for no good reason.

Yea. But sometimes people take things too far. He probebly did threaten the cop, maybe with a shooting, BEFORE he knew he was a cop. Whether the cop told him or not. People are dumb, especially when they're angry. If you put both those stories together, usually you get the truth. I'm pretty sure dude wouldn't admit to treatening a police man with shooting him. You know how much time you can get for doing it to a real person? Let alone a cop.
Here's what really happened.
Jr. was waved over by counter clerk. Cop boy didn't see it. He got angry since he was most likely waiting for a while too. He voiced his irritation. In return, Sr. decided to defend his son with some bad remarks, in front of cop boys family. Public humiliation and whatnot, made him feel even madder. So they have a small argument, Sr. asks him to step outside, maybe threatens him and whatnot. Cop calls his cop buddies, may or may not have let known he was a cop as well. After Jr. and Sr. flee the scene because of Sr. actions and police man's threats, copy boy fallows them to make sure they don't get away for pissing him off and making him look like a puss in front of his wife and kid. So he may or may not have over exaggeated on what Sr. did, but both of them are lying somewhere. Both to save their own asses. Or try to anyway.

I agree that they're both lying to some extent. Unfortunately, it's what people do. I just find it disturbing how easily people can jump to conclusions. As far as we know the actual chain of events could range anywhere from Mr. Pluhar taking a leak on the honorable officer's shoes to a disgruntled Mr Kirby making the whole thing up because he thought someone skipped in line and thought he'd teach that punk a lesson.

Someone will be getting in trouble for a flasified report. And if they go to court and try t defend it, purgery. It could get even bigger then they want it to.
