The recent stretch of red hot play by St. Louis Blues goaltender Chris Mason (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=chris+mason) means that Manny Legace (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=manny+legace) has become expendable as the Blues placed the former All-Star netminder on waivers Friday.
The 36-year old Legace has posted a 13-9-2 record in 29 games with the Blues this season, but has been getting fewer and fewer starts thanks to the emergence of Mason.
"It's extremely tough," Legace told the St. Louis Dispatch. "You play your heart out for a team, and the minute you hit a little bit of a rough patch, they dump on you. It was very hard to hear."
Since mid-January, Mason has been one of the top goaltenders in the league, sporting a 4-1-1 record with a .956 save percentage and a 1.29 goals against average. He has also picked up a pair of shutouts.
The 32-year old Mason told FSN that he attributes his recent string of play to the fact that he feels lighter after getting his eyebrows tweezed and nose hairs waxed on January 15th.
Meanwhile Legace is in the final year of his deal that sees him earn $2.5 million this season, the team would love to get that contract off their books. If he clears waivers the Blues could send him to the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.
The Toronto-native was also involved in one of the strangest injuries of the season when he missed five games with a hip flexor injury after he tripped on a carpet laid out for Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin during a pre-game ceremony.

Bummer. I've always liked Manny. He's just got a confidence problem he just can't seem to overcome.

What?

Is this for real or some kind of early April Fools' Day joke?

It's for real but he was joking...

Fox Sports Midwest did a piece on him where they sent him to a day spa. While he was there they hot waxed his uni-brow and thicket of nose hair. It was pretty funny.

That being said, I'm freakin' bummed to see Manny go... he's a stud who carried the team last season but has played horribly of late.

Man, there are a couple of teams that should be tripping over themselves to claim him.

Well that and performance, Legace has sucked this year (3.18 GAA and .885 save percentage), has lost his starting job to Chris Mason (2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage) and there's no point in keeping him around as a back-up when he's making $2.5 million.

is it just me or is Legace gonna become the next ageless wonder goalie like Eddie the Eagle?
