Dana Stubblefield, a four-time Pro Bowl lineman who spent 11 seasons in the NFL, has been providing information to federal authorities and the league regarding steroid use and distribution in the sport, according to a government filing.
Stubblefield is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court later on Friday on one count of perjury related to his testimony in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative steroids case. The former San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders defensive linemen pleaded guilty last year to lying about his use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. He is expected to receive two years' probation, in part for his cooperation in the investigation.

Steroids in football? That's simply not possible! We've been told over and over again that only baseball players use steroids.

It has been changed from BASEball to GASEball.
How anyone finds this tedious 4-1/2 hour event exciting is BEYOND me.

Who cares? Let them do steroids. If they want to damage themselves over the long-term in order to make the game more entertaining for me, as a fan, then go for it. If they drop dead because their heart implodes 6 months after they retire, then so be it. I'll already be rooting for their replacement.

I think steroid use should be broken up into 2 sections.
1. Those who use(d) steroids to help heal and get out on the field to play sooner are fine in my book. They are trying to get out there and earn their money and entertain fans.
2. Those who use(d) steroids to bulk up and enhance their play above normal ability should be punished to the fullest extent.

Meh, I've always assumed most football players are on roids anyway.

really wouldn't be anyway to distinguish between the two though......
players who would fall under option #2 would claim they only did it because of option #1...

There are different steroids used for the 2 different situations. So there are ways to tell the difference between the 2. Whether they have the testing to prove it is another question though.

The NFL has more 'roid users than any sport and the players bodies speak for themselves.

Probably because football has had a steroid policy for years. It drug tests it's athletes and suspends them over steroid use, something baseball neglected to do until a few years ago. Players like Julius Peppers and Shawn Merriman have been caught and suspended, star players. I agree that everyone's attitude is different, but it's not like the NFL has turned a blind eye to the situation like baseball did. Sure, plenty slip through the cracks, but the NFL has done an outstanding job compared to the MLB.

I think the problem with baseball is that they didn't have ANY punishment set up for steroids until recent years. Football has always tested for steroids and punished users.
Now, if we are talking about HGH, I absolutely agree. There needs to be blood testing in all major sports, but baseball was easily in the worst shape so it's easy to see why they would be more heavily criticized.
Plus, the typical defense of baseball fans with their head in the sand has always seemed to have been..."what about football?!?", as if another sport's problem was going to make what they were (not) doing ok.

You're wrong. They can't tell which drug was used by doing blood work. They check for elevated protiens and testosterone levels and those elevations don't discriminate per each drug. If a guy is using a weaker steroid like Decca, the blood work isn't going to differentiate it from a non steroid like testosterone. Certain steroids work better then others at different things but you can't tell which has been use like that. Testosterone is the better then steroids for building muscle and bulking up but many use it for rehabilitation as well. So, you just can't test them for the exact roid used.
I personally could care less if a person uses steroids on their own. i don't care if they smoke either. It doesn't hurt me any. What I do care about is breaking the rules. There is nothing you can say to a roid user before it was implemented as banned. After that, it's cheating. It's cheating once it has been established as a rule and I hope and pray no Steelers players get called on this. If they do, I will be just as hard as I am on any others. Cheating is cheating.
