The calf muscles on each leg are proportionate, but if you look at it at a certain angle, the left one does seem lot skinnier, and the way the boot is sculpted adds to that effect. The colors are more muted than regular Spawn figures. The sculpt is really nice and the paint is a lot tighter than recent figures with much less slop. The figure is NOT 100% resin though, the bullet belt is plastic & I do believe the upper flaps on the cape MAY be plastic as well, they seem more pliable than the rest of the piece. It's not much larger than regular Spawn figures though as you can see from the comparison shot. I also don't like the signature plate, it limits the way you can orient the piece....I find I like the figure posed more facing me which leaves the nameplate off center which I find distracting.
All in all, its a nice piece for the $70 price range and in line with other products in the same size/ price range. I may have to pass on the next one though as I think its a bit over priced and I don't like the original costume, and just go for the CoTS piece.
On the other hand, I think it's a real shame that the figure, along with the prototypes we saw from the proposed Art of Spawn series 36, weren't just made into regular plastic figures (even just a limited, online only line)...I think fans would've been much happier, and then do real 12" statues in the future.
Then again, with only one-third of the statues sold so far, maybe it's just the end of the line for Spawn anyway...who knows.

Nice statue and pictures. I would have bought it if it was made into a figure.

I got mine yesterday and I have to say that they look better in real life than the pictures. Pics do not do them justice. I really like mine and I do not think I would have liked it as much as a fig. I hope those who preordered do buy it and it sells out so we can get to CotS (and the rest of S36).

My greatest fear is that this line will die. If that happens...

Hopefully this line does well, because if they can't sell a measly thousand $70 statues, well, it doesn't bode well for future Spawn product IMHO.

i don't think it's the fact that the statue is 70 bucks or limited to a thousand, it's just that Todd needs to do something DIFFERENT with the line. and for god's sake a SCALE UPGRADE.
make a PF Spawn, limit it to 500-750, and it'd be a hit...but it needs to be something DIFFERENT. not just a resin figure, or a scaled up figure, they really need to do something different.

Very nice, well worth the price. I sorta wish I pre-ordered this thing way back in the summer.

From the looks of things, I think the ordering will be opened up to everybody.

I tend to agree, but only if he licensed it out to someone else, like Sideshow or Hot Toys. I don't think doing it in house gets enough exposure. I'd like to think maybe thats why they havent done as well as many thought they would so far....only selling a third of their run with a week to go in their 3 week window can't be meeting their expectations.

Nice pics, K. Although I like the statue, I also can see why perhaps some people who pre-ordered this piece have had second thoughts. They are waiting for us critics who have already bought the piece to comment on it. I think it's a fairly good piece for the price, but not a penny more. You are right on about the belt and possibly parts of the cape being plastic. It's a bit odd, but oh well.
I find this piece was to be a crucial item for Spawn collector's, after the cancellations that have taken place within the Spawn line recently. It's almost staggering to see that these pre-sold out in a couple of days and now that they are available for purchase, they're not selling as well as expected. It makes it seem as if this could place the production of the other statues in jeopardy, almost. I sure hope not, and I hope that they use this as a tool to better the next statue (perhaps in size), before further cancellations occur for us. Overall, I like the statue and I think it's pretty good for being the official first piece of McFarlane's Signature Collection. However, I tend to agree with most of the boardies regarding size.

Thanks T. The only thing I can think about the plastic parts of the cape is that they thought those pieces might break easily if they were resin.
I do think that McF is waiting to see how sales go & that's why the CoTS statue pre sale was pushed back a couple of weeks.
A lot of things have tanked in the economy since the pre sale opened up for this piece and that may have affected sales. However, if you search eBay, the statue has been selling for an average of ~$120, so I tend to think demand is there. The method of distribution, i.e. the collectors club, might not have been a great idea. Why not just sell them thru normal Diamond distributors?
OTOH, oh well, its their problem, not mine, I'm happy because my HT Iron Man MK III ships on Friday...yeah baby!!! :D

This is such a badass statue but Todd should get smacked the hell up for making it that small.

Yeah, it would've made a great 12" statue.... :spawnorb:

People can say what they want about the scale, but this is an incredible statue. My thoughts:
The Batman black and white mini-statues are the same scale, same price point, and seem to be fairly popular. I think this statue is much nicer than those and more detailed. At the same price this statue is better value for your money. The paint app is very good, the cape is awesome, and I love how the base is done. The shell casings look great and the base has weight to it which I really like. Not to mention it includes a signature plate. Maybe the plate does minimize display poses but it really doesn't effect the quality of the statue. I actually prefer the statue positioned with the plate on the back and the mini gun facing forward (see 3rd photo by Karnis). I agree with Andre' though, pics do not do the statue justice.
Overall great statue and glad I bought one.

well, the thing about the Batman mini's is they're a nice alternative, and not just the only option...

I just wonder what would ease McF's performance anxiety about releasing a new Spawn wave. I don't see any of their project (movie, animation, comic) blossoming in the short term.

And also, even if I got the money together this is gonna cost me close to $150 or so, even if I will have it shipped to one of my American brothers first! So yeah will have to wait for McF to change their stubborn strategy concerning non-US customers as that statue is not worth that much to me at 8", no matter how good it looks.

There's no doubt that the cost for international shipping has chased away a lot of customers.
The lack of any support media mentioned by Chris above has reduced Spawn awareness as a brand name. No movie, animation and a lackluster-selling comic really hurts here.
Making it a CC only purchased has limited its availablity. People are paying $120.00 and more for it on eBay. It's got to chaff McF's arse seeing that they can't sell out their preorders while they are already getting 1.5x the list price on the secondary market.
And as Spliff mentioned, the figure itself is a resin rehash of the plastic figures.
I like it a lot, don't get me wrong, but all these factors above seem to be limiting its potential.

Yeah, I still believe that alot of the high-end collectors are interested in these designs but they must get a chance to see it and order it for it to be the success McF needs it to be.
