...Matt Wieters of the O's is #1...
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2009/267698.html
..."The list follows our standard prospect guidelines, which means any player who has not exceeded the rookie limits of 130 at-bats or 50 innings in the major leagues (without regard to service time) is eligible for the list. Voters put together their ballots after talking with general managers, scouting directors, farm directors, scouts, managers, coaches and other people in the game, as well as many discussions with each other.
As always, our view is not to what a player may contribute this season, but what his ultimate major league ceiling might be, weighed against the probability that he will reach that ceiling. The capsules focus on numbers that make each prospect significant."...

I watched #23 Justin Smoak in batting practice the other day at practice camp, and at least 2/3rds of the balls were hit out of the park. It was sick.

I should frame that page, there hasn't been a top prospect for the Orioles in a LONG time. Maybe Mussina in the 80's.

What about Ben McDonald?

Yeah, I guess he was up there, too. How could I forget about him with the storied career he had! I had every rookie card made of him. I called it The Ben Collection. Now I call it worthless.

Yeah he's supposed to be a straight BEAST. Rangers have the #1 Farm in the league and have either 4 or 5 players on that top 100.

Which is exactly why I spent four mornings getting autographs at Rangers camp :)

the delay it because of the prospect handbook. which completely trumps any other "list" out there. A definite must buy for baseball fans.
and yes, smoak can rake, but have you ever seen bp? for most guys with power that's not too uncommon.

This is why even I have a hard time finding reasons to fire JP Ricciardi anymore, he's done a great job with the farm system over the last 2-3 years and should be allowed to finish out his contract through 2010.
I'm really excited about Snider, Arencibia and Cecil, in fact, their progress is the only thing to look forward to in 2009 for any Jays fan.

Hanson is SICK!!! I watched him pitch in the AZ Fall League. He struck out the first 8 batters he saw and made them look silly. This guy will be good.
