Right now I'm working on my new hive diorama.
Well here's a taste of things to come:

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm69/Michael-Muth/Customs/Male-Victim-03-web.jpg

Of course this is only one of the victims. And there's a whole lot more stuff to be done.
So it will take some time to get my diorama finished.
Tell me what you think about it.

Thanks dropshipbob.
Of course there'll be lots of victims. There'll be people getting killed, running away from Aliens and cocooned victims as seen above. Several Marines will be fighting the Xenomorphs. I also might include a section with hunting Predators.
The hive will also include organic hive walls like those you see when the marines enter the hive in ALIENS. Aliens will camouflage themselves in those structures and hide under the ceiling. And of course there need to be the Queen sitting on her eggsack.
I'm considering to add LED lights and working vents to it.

Thanks :). Yes I know that I'll have to put lots of time into that project. But I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Regarding the eggs: Some time ago I had a VERY good deal on ebay. I got 5 of the AVP Deluxe box egg-bases and some additional extras for a few bucks. I also have some of the smaller egg bases that came with the single released Alien.
So I think that'll suffice for now ;)

Yeah he really does. That's one of the reasons I chose that Macready figure. It really does fit in stylewise. :)

I've never seen the movie (it'd probably give me nightmares) but that's so cool looking.
Thank you. :) I'd recommend watching Aliens. It's a great movie.
I sill remember watching it for the first time. Sometimes I even switched the channel when it got too scary :D. One of my favourite movies of all time. It's a shame that the movies after Alien 3 had suich a bad influence on the franchise.

That is a very very very cool project! Always wanted to do that myself. Can't wait to see it finished!
Neither can I :)
If you ever plan on making a diorama yourself, feel free to ask me for advice :).

A very bold plan, and it looks like you are off to a great start. I too have plans to do something similar, have you given any thought as to how you will do the egg sack for the queen?

Nice score.

I had similar ambitions for a dio, even casting eggs off of the McF base to basically make a field of them. It looks like you're already further ahead than I'll ever get. Can't wait to see the finished set.

Yes I already thought about that. I think I'll use construction foam or super sculpey to roughly sculpt the sack. Then I'll cover it with a thick tranclucent coating of hot-glue. I'll add structures to the hard glue using the hot tip of the hot-glue gun. After that I'll paint it with yellow and brown ink and add a gloss to the whole thing. The translucent coat should look great in special lighted environment.

Casting the eggs is something I'd love to do. especially because of those stupid seams the McFarlane eggs have. But I highly doubt I'll be able to do so anytime soon.
It's about the money, you know ? :o

Actually it would be pretty easy and cheap.

Do you have liquid latex available in Germany?

A very NICE JOB!!!

I've been planning to make a cocooned victim for a while now...
I hope you wouldn't mind if I asked you a couple questions when I do have time to make my own!

Keep the creativity flowing. I can't wait to see more!

I just searched for it - yes we do ;)
But how would you suggest me to cast the eggs exactly ? I've never done that before, though I always wanted to do it....
The best would be if the eggs could still be translucent...

Then if you have a hot glue gun, it should be pretty easy! I've done the following myself with excellent results...and the part was translucent!

-First- take the an egg and remove any flash/mold lines.

-Using white craft glue (like Elmer's, if you have that or anything similar) and glue the egg down to a piece of poster board or card stock

-Then take your finger and dip it into the liquid latex

-Rub this all over the egg, let dry overnight. Do another layer the next day, keep adding on till you have a nice, thick coat. (Using your finger helps "push" the latex into all the details. You can use a brush, but if the latex dries in it, it will be useless.) Make sure each coat is completely dry! Add as many coats as you like, I usually go for four or five.

-Once the coat is completely dry, take some baby powder and rub it all over the outside of the egg. You don't need alot. Blow off any excess powder.

-Slowly work the latex coat up and over the egg, like you're removing a shirt. Work some baby powder to the inside as you go. Keep some baby powder on your fingers to do this the easy way.

It's very important to use baby powder on the inside and outside of the latex coat. Latex will stick to itself very easily, baby powder keeps this from happening.

-When you are done, the coat should be removed and inside-out. Again, blow off any excess baby powder. Flip the coat so that the outside the side with all the detail) is back "in".

-Warm up your glue gun and when ready, and holding the mold uppside down, slowly add some glue into the lowest spot and keep adding more till the whole thing is filled. Be sure to wear gloves when doing this as it will get very hot...to hot to hold! Have a small cylinder sitting nearby, it should be close to the same diameter of the egg. Place the egg in this with the opening facing up, this will hold it while it cools.

-Once it is cool, slowly peel the latex mold off the egg. What you should have is one egg with a milky white (semi translucent) color.

-After you have removed the egg, be sure to rub more baby powder on the inside of the egg mold. If you don't do this, you won't be able to remove the latex jacket without destroying it from your next egg.

-You can re-use the mold several times, if you need lots of eggs, you may have to do this more than once.

The good thing about this technique is it's cheap, and if you need more than one mold, or if you destroy one, you can make another failry easy and cheap. You don't have to wait a day between each coating of latex, I do this just to make sure it's completely dry.

If the baby powder method doesn't work, you can try smearing a very thin layer of Vasoline petroleum jelly on the inside of your egg mold. Make sure it is very thin!! If you go this route, the mold will break down fairly quick because petroleum jelly is oil based, and oil rots rubber.
