Best case is they file a claim, send the shoes back to you, and get their refund.
Then you can resell them.
I don't think there's anything you can do about the neg though, unless you convice them they are real, and he withdraws the feedback.

that was my 1st thought too...i'm really not sure what you can do to prevent it, but if this buyer has done this in the past with another seller you might be able to prove what he is doing...

I would say just eat the negative and tell him to either keep the shoes or shove them where the sun doesn't shine.

Negative feedback can be removed, but both the buyer and seller have to agree for that to occur.
Hopefully it works out for you. Judging by the sound of it, it sounds like you could be in for a rough ride. Go through the formal ebay dispute process just to protect yourself.
One tip for future sales of higher-end items -- document the item and your packaging job of it with several digital photos just to protect yourself. There are so many people that are unscrupulous and just looking for ways to make an easy buck these days, so a little photographic insurance goes a long way. It costs nothing to snap and save a few pix, so I recommend it. Consider even snapping a photo as you slide the well-packaged box onto the USPS counter, just so that there is documentation of the "point of no return" where it is out of your control.
Good luck!

If it's your only negative feedback, just eat it.
We got some negative feedback last year because someone claimed something else and THEN got their refund.
People will see the negative and (hopefully)read it. When they realize that it's only one negative, they'll ignore it.

Just eat the negative. Move on. I got one for not sending the shoes fast enough. The problem was that I have NEVER even sold a pair of shoes. Buyer had me mixed up and the neg was never taken off. I haven't bothered to sell anything on ebay because it is no longer worth it.

file a complaint with ebay saying the feedback was not justified . Tell them you will fax them a valid reciept from the shoes tp prove that they are genunine. I did it with one of my negatives where the guy said I never shipped but he never paid and the neg was removed. Ebay has gotten ALOT worse since sellers cannot leave negative feedback

honestly, I wouldn't do anything. I would respond to the neg comment saying where u bought them and the date. I wouldnt do a return. Fake MJs are every where and he may do a switch aroo

Times are bad, that's what happens.
Reason he is still on ebay is that he has 1200 feedbacks.

Start contacting eBay and PayPal right away. If you just allow them to go through the automated dispute process there is a chance it will slip through and there is not anything you can do about it. If they want to return it and file a PayPal claim and provide a tracking number, PayPal will refund them unless you are proactive about this.

Tell him to send the shoes back. When you receive them, if they're fakes, keep them and post an explanation for your 'negative'. If he send fakes, he's now out another $20-$30 plus shipping back to you. If he complains, report him to Ebay. With all of the negatives he'll most likely get banned.
At least the negative he gave you will cost him some money. If you end up getting a PayPal notification, pull all of the funds from your account, that way he gets nada.

And, if they find for the buyer, you'll never be able to use PayPal again until you pay it off. They'll also file it with a credit reporting agency.

If he is successful filing a SNAD (significantly not as described) and returns something other than the shoes you sent him, you can appeal the SNAD refund.

It will be kind of funny if you get back some old sandals or Chuck Taylors in the mail. Obviously not funny to you.. :)

you should have blocked him from bidding, I look at everyone's feedback when they bid on something of mine. I also have it set up to block any bidders with excessive negative feedback in 12 months. Best thing you can do man
