View Full Version : Who's more disappointing in these NHL playoffs?

I have a number of Sharks & Capitals on my Playoff Pool, and needless to say i'm going to be done awfully quick:mad::D

I would say the Caps. Yeah the Sharks won the President's Trophy, but the Ducks have been awfully hot. The Caps are playing the Rangers who everyone thought would be pretty much one and done.

i can deal with the sharks losing.. but not showing up is lame.. i think they've now passed the sens for alltime playoff futility.

Sharks, simply because of expectations. Sure they have a chokers reputation. But this year was supposed to be different.

Caps. With all the hooplah over Ovenchicken and Semen I don't see how they're trailing this bad against a team with Sean Avery.

Joe Thornton was only visible last night in the sense he was on for all goals against (except maybe one?).

I'd go Sharks. I think the Caps are playing better but Henrik is stealing this series by himself.

I agree, I would say the Caps as well simply based on how the Rangers were playing down the stretch. At one point, I was almost certain that the Rangers would miss the playoffs and either the Sabres or Panthers would get in but the Rangers somehow held on and looked awful as they did it.

As for the Sharks, they had to play a Ducks team that had to play lights out just to get in and made the switch to Hiller during during that time (early March) so even though they have the record of an 8th seed, they have the make up of a team that's much better (a dominant scoring line: Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, a shut down defense combo: Pronger and Niedermeyer and a great puck moving defenseman who's fit in really well: Whitney, plus of course a shut down goalie who is playing his best hockey of the season: Hiller).

I picked the Rangers to smoke Washington.

Bruins wouldn't play the Caps in the second round anyways. It's high seed vs low seed, not the bracket formation of the NBA.

It doesn't matter, there's no format in which the 1 seed would play the 2 seed in the semis. I think he just meant later on in the playoffs.

Two words:

Henrik and Lundqvist (also known as Lundstrom in some circles LOL)

He is the ONLY reason the Rangers are up 3-1. The Capitals have dominated every game in this series and played very well.

Blocked shots are great but they don't do much for your offense. The Caps have dominated this series and the only reason they are down 3-1 is because of Theodore and a mishandled puck by the backup in game 4.

For the past decade the Sharks have been the Sens of the West. But the Sens made the Finals once Sharks have been the underacheivers of the decade.

Lundqvist is winning this series by himself. He stole games 2 and 4 which would mean that the Caps would be up 3-1 if it wasn't for him.

Yes you are right, Avery is pathetic. :p

The last game proves it. He acted like an idiot all game and did everything humanly possible to hurt his team's chances of winning.

Shoving his stick blade in Ovechkin's throat after the play was over. Ya that's brilliant. And no penalty called, Unreal.

Not so lucky at the end of the game though when he takes that moronic selfish penalty that had nothing to do with the play or stopping a scoring chance and you just see Tortorella on the bench shaking his head in disgust at his pathetic player. Mind you Tortorella is the idiot for putting him out there in that situation in the first place. What was he thinking??

Add that to the fact that Avery always sits at the very end of the team bench and the other players actually slide over away from him and leave a space on the bench between him and them and NOBODY ever talks to him and that tells you all you need to know about this guy.

Even his own teammates and coach don't respect him.

If he is not benched next game I will be SHOCKED.

He is doing nothing to help his team win. He is only doing harm for his team by taking stupid selfish penalties.

He is not scoring goals, and is barely agitating the other team effectively. I don't see what value he is bringing. Just harm.

Are the caps outplaying the NYR's in most facets of the Game "YES" but to say that Lundqvist is doing It on his own Is questionable. He makes the saves but last time I checked he doesn't score any goals. The rest of the team must be doing something right. Their PK was #1 overall this season & it has been there again in the playoffs. Most of them have been killing off Avery's downright stupid penalties. Although I do agree that without Hank It's not 3-1. Now go ahead & bash me for my statements, I can take It..............I think
That being said I think It would be the Sharks. I think a lot more was expected of them in the playoffs.
The Caps D & Goaltending has been suspect all season. I picked the rangers to beat them & not just because I'm a NYR Fan but because I think they (the Caps) were beatable.

i like him, and i think he is an asset to the team (no not a @$$ to the team). he takes the body, and is a hard worker when he isnt doing those things. to say he dosnt help the team is a lie and you know it. he creates scoring chances and fights in th corner and behind the net.

He doesn't help the team. Take not of the fine work he did in Dallas this past season.

Tell that to the entire Stars organization. Judging by the way the players talked, he was sure no asset there.

now that hes abck in new york. fans love it. and the players like him.

That is laughable. He is liked??? Every single sports expert or panelist on Sportsnet, TSN or the Score (because Canadian TV has better hockey coverage) says the reason he sits alone on the end of the bench is becuase his teamates can't stand him, and that's ex-hockey players saying that. Everyone outside of the New York Rangers Execs (ie: Glen Sather) and their fans see Avery for what he is, a disgrace. The Rangers are leading this series on the basis of their goaltender and the fact that the Caps have hit many untimely goalposts.

like i said. thats dallas. this is new york. he is liked here.

Getting back to the original intent of this thread, I think the Sharks are the more disappointing. The fact of the matter is you can't win a Stanley Cup with Joe Thornton as your centrepiece, he simple doesn't have the heart. It's not a knock on him personally, he's by all accounts a great guy, but some players have "IT" and some don't and clearly, he doesn't. Remeber back in 2002, when he led the Bruins to the division title and no-showed in the playoffs? He's doing it again. Thornton is a great passer, but he's not a power centre, not a power forward, he's a perimiter player, he's never going to be a Iginla or Lecavalier. Unfortunatly, if he ever wins a cup it'll be when he's on the brink of retirement, making little money and being a 3rd or 4th line centre, a cog in the wheel, not the main piece, like Andreychuk was in Tampa. Still with the Sharks, why does Nabokov always IMPLODE during big games? I mean, it's not all on Joe's shoulders. Marleau, Boyle, Cheechoo have all disappeared, but Nabby is terrible in the post season.

i don't see how the Sharks losing 3 to 1 is so shocking. I mean we are talking about the same nucleus that won the Stanley Cup just 2 years ago. Our defense is insane with talent(Nieds, Pronger, Whitney, Beauchimen, Wisnewski) and with one of the best lines in the league with Getz/Perry/Ryan, all it takes is for their goalie to get hot at the right time, and that is playoff time.
