Remind me one more time. What is the purpose for the large cardboad backing? Couldn't it be more cost effective to have less cardboard like what we had for the Riggins HOF Ex?

Still lovin' the cardboard. Still think it's hilarious they made Marino into Thunder Thighs.

The packaging on the NFL figures is universal for all figures.
Using the larger cardboard allows us to place the complete figure in the clam shell. You won't see the amputees any more with the NFL figures.

The new package design front and back is awesome, big improvement. The grey tone was brutal, all that color and photos makes the package very nice to look at.

Just picked up a Tanguay from the current NHL and it's quality rivals earlier series. Glad to see Mcfarlane is back on top of their game, atleast with current baseball and hockey plus how the new legends are looking!

in the ask todd thread todd said they were going to go back to an all plastic clamshell at some point, any idea if this will ever really happen? and ,if we are stuck with this stupid cardboard, when are there at least going to be protecto cases that fit them? you guys could seriously make bank if you came out with some yourself.it would be nice to even have an option when buying them from the online store to have them shipped in protectos.

I'm personally thrilled that they didn't make the first one in the aqua jersey. I like it and all, but I am a big fan of the all white unis they wore back then (and started wearing again in 2000).

It's because the NFL requires their logos to be at least a certain size on products that at retail.

Could you e-mail that to Protech so we can get some protective and display cases for these? They really stuck out their necks making a mold for the second type of Sports Picks packages and got burnt.

Yes no more crap flat football field bases. It's amazing how happy everyone is over a change that shouldn't have ever been changed in the first place. Now if the player selection and poses could get better we could be close to getting back to the good old days around here...

When you say 'All the Latest Updates' is that generic speak for no real sports updates?

JoeHawk13

How many NFL 'amputee' figures have there been in the smaller packages? One that I can think of, Favre 2 and none since. I think that argument can be made for NBA figures, but NFL figures have never had a problem fitting in the smaller packages except that one. If you could get the Cowboys TO and Tra Thomas into the smallest packages, then there is no reason for them others to be in the bigs.

The tall Montana is the only figure taking advantage of the space, all the others look small in the giant plastic bubble. NBA is the reason and consistancy in packaging. Sorry, just miss the days when I could hang nice looking unopened figures up.

Can we get a close-up of Marino's helmet/facemask? Maybe it is the angle, but in these sample pics his face doesn't look anything like in the prototype photo. I wish we could get exactly what's on the back of the cardboard packaging. His face looks too generic, not detailed like in the promo.

the packaging is a major issure for moc collectors.i used to buy over 100 figures a year before they switched to cardboard,i have purchased a total of 5 figures since then. i did break down and buy a case of the college series, but by no means is the package change a small issue..

I've stopped buying new figures ever since they changed the scale, the paint/decal apps, the bases, the packaging...what else? Oh yeah, the player selection, the chases, the board mods, the online store, the warehouse, the carpet, the lighting, the WHOLE FREAKING COMPANY!!! Oh, where have you gone, Mr. Mcfarlane SportsPicks c. 2007?

Sad, sad, sad...

The new cardboard standard means I am switching from buying cases to just buying the figures I like FROM HERE ON OUT.

I'm a mint on card collector, man, these new cards don't match! They look stupid on the wall next the the old blessed clamshells, this sucks. I'm out!!!

Dude, just cause you rip open your s#%t, don't give others who keep their figures carded a hard time. Packaging is a very important part of the whole action figure experience (maybe not for you), but what other way do we have to convey our dislike for this cardboard crap but to complain here and NOT buy the figures. Not buying the figures is the only way they will change it, hopefully.

I for one wouldn't mind paying alittle more per figure for the old clamshells, these cardboard backs suck that much.

dathon0711
05-09-2009, 07:54 AM
I did enough complaining, now some praise:

The all painted figures look great again.
The return of the chases, great.
The return of the stickers, awesome!
The figure stands, you're getting there.

Now we're almost there... one thing left to do... come on... you know what it is... BRING BACK THE ALL PLASTIC CLAMSHELL !!!
Yeah, we did it!!!
Now we are truly back, and I can gladly and with glee hand over my money for cases of SportsPicks again.
Our long national nightmare is over.

Make the above senairo happen, we can do it.

Two figures that I will be buying are the Rivers and the Cunningham. Don't know about the rest of them. Since there aren't any skins players on there, I doubt that I would get any other ones than the ones stated above.

What I would have liked to have seen was that they would have used the ping pong table bases on the player who in fact played on turf and used the regular bases for players who played on grass.
