Stopped by TRU tonight, because I haven't been in ages - wandered through the aisles to see what might be out there, and I saw a cool little Chun Li statuette on a peg, all by itself. About 3 or 4 inches tall. No price tag, no labels nearby. Walked over to a price scanner, and it rang up 1¢! Sold!
It rang up as a 'promo' so I'm guessing it was a giveaway if you bought SF4? But I found it online when I got home, their website say its $7.99. Mismarked for the win!

Also picked up the Flash from DCU series 7...first DCU figure I've bought outside of Riddler - always a fan of the costume.

Not mismarked, just "cleared out". They're technically not supposed to sell the things they mark down to a penny (and they do that because they can't mark it down to 0) - those things are supposed to be sent back for credit.

Lol when you paid did you take out a penny and say"Here you go!" :p
Actually, I got the DCU Flash also - and the guy didn't even notice when it rang up. I was afraid they might notice if I had gone up there with just a penny! :D

They were always marked that price at the stores, they were only supposed to be given out when SF4 was bought the first week of release. My store still has a bunch in stock but we have yet to put them out on pegs. I was hoping that she would be in scale with the Ryu figure I got with the PS3 exclusive game.

Well they would have to sell it to you for that price or it's a false abertising...
Not true. At KMart if they have one of those penny deals to send back, they have to call a manager up to the front and the manager has to void the item from the list and take it to the back personally. And if a customer gets pissed, the manager has to explain he's not ALLOWED to sell the item.
Granted the customer SHOULD be right and get what they want, but thats not how it goes anymore. And if the customer were to call the higher ups and complain they would explain the same thing the manager did.
I know because I found a Pirates 3 3/4 figure at KMart in the clearance isle and scanned it with the price scanner and it came up a penny, so I laughed and went to buy it. Luckily I know alot of the people that work there, and the one manager explained it to me all nice.
Now whether everyone will fallow the rules, that can NEVER be guranteed. But thats how they're supposed to do it.

No one's right it all depends on the state the store is in. Sometimes the consumer wins other times the store policy rules out. I would think though if something like your pirates find happened the store would eat the bullet and sell you the figure, too bad in your case they didn't.

That might be it. Sucks that the guy still knew me and didn't sell it to me. But I don't collect them so it wasn't a big loss. I figured at a penny, why the hell not? Yknow?

Yep - thats what I was afraid of, so I masked it with the Flash fig - and talked the guy up while he rang it up - didn't even notice.
The DCU Flash was $10.99, and the Chun-Li was $0.01 which came to exactly $11 plus tax! ($11.85 was my total) :D

You see, there is no retail handbook where it says you have to give the customer the price it is marked, it not a law or anything, now stores can give it to the customer at a discounted price, just as long as the store isnt losing any money on the item.
When I was a department manager at K-Mart, I would always go round and round with customers who would argue that we "have to" give it to them for that price, this just isnt true, I mean anyone can switch a price tag, move a sale sign etc..., and like I said, theres no law stating that we have to give it to them for whatever price they say it is.

Penny deals are cool! I didn't know that the 1¢ deals weren't supposed to be sold. I picked up a bunch of Hasbro Marvel Legends TRU exclusive Diamond Emma Frost for 1¢ each. I went to confrim the price with a store associate and he told me they do that once in a while. Took them to the cashier and she rang them up all fine. Truthfully not a great figure (actually quite horrible) but its hard to say "no" to a penny deal. I might drill some led lights up her wazzoo and make her into Christmas ornament.

People get so caught up on this. Companies have no obligation to honor a price that is grossly incorrect like this. And you don't have a valid cause of action if they don't. It wasn't in an ad or anything (therefore not advertised) and it's clearly just human error (or in this case they were just blowing them out). I can't tell you how many time's I've had people try to trot that crap out on me for everything from those old ****ty CD jewel case games to Mice that are clearly marked USB when the person needs PS/2.
I'm not saying you shouldn't complain if something goes wrong, but I would say you'd catch more flies with honey. I've given polite folks with the same issues free product to keep them coming into the store (back when there was a store and I worked there LOL).

Maybe for TRU but I know when i worked for KB we marked stuff down to 0 all the time and if it was something that could be used like toys or what not we could take what we wanted if it was something like expired candy or what have you then it just went out with the trash that night.

Guys it all depends on the consumer law in the state, some states are partial to the consumer others are not. There are laws on the books, you probably don't have them in your state or haven't done enough research. A nation wide chain must operate within the state laws they run their business in, corporate policies aren't the end all of a situation sometimes. Many corporations have found themselves with fines because they think they're higher than an individual states will.

I didn't wanna be a ****. It wasn't a big deal to me and the I knew the manager and he was a cool guy. So no big deal. Just figured I'd put it out there.

I've gotten things like this at Best Buy for years.Usually whenever a movie or cd had a promo that doesn't sell out,if you come across it later it will ring up for a cent.I do usually buy something else to go with it though.
Nice score.

I'd like to see some specific citations of those laws.
