And so its begun. Everybody and their mama is getting swine flu in eastern NC. Its worse than the initial outbreak. Just hope it doesn't evolve into something more dangerous.

I just roll my eyes and turn the channel when a swine flu story comes on.
I think Obama planted the swine flu virus to get his healthcare package passed because you know the emergency rooms are gonna be twice as packed as they normally would be because everyone and their brother who doesn't have insurance and even gets a scratchy throat will swear they have the pig flu thus crippling ER's around the country. Then he can turn around and say ah ha see if these people had affordable healthcare insurance they could be going to their regular doctor instead of the emergency room.
And before someone takes my comments seriously  yes I am joking.

I'm already kind of on the bandwagon. It's super easy to be prepared guys. I have a first-aid kit in each car with 2 pairs of nitrile gloves and 2 masks just in case. I don't think the swine flu is really doing anything more than the regular flu, but it never hurts to do some simple and cheap things to ensure you'll be OK if **** goes haywire. The danger lies in other people's reaction to the swine flu.

The simple solution to the swine flu is... go to the damn doctor immediately upon getting sick. Or stay home. Don't be a ******bag and go to work, or god forbid school, sick as ****. In fact... why doesn't everyone just stay the **** home until spring? We can all be like the bears and hibernate for a while.
Damn swine flu. Seriously, I want to strap a truck of c4 on the bastard that first contracted that crap... if he/she isn't already dead.

I don't think the swine flu is really doing anything more than the regular flu, .
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17189432
About 36,000 people die from the flu each year in the United States, according to the CDC.
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/09/04/h1n1-deaths-who.html
The World Health Organization said Friday that 2,837 people have been reported as swine flu fatalities, as H1N1 ebbs and flows in various parts of the world.
The Swine Flu would have to get MUCH worse to even come close to being as bad as the regular flu.

Yup... but the regular flu normally kills the very old, very young and those with weak immune systems.
H1N1 has been killing perfectly healthy people... that's why folks are in a panic.

I disagree. Just because something bad happened once with a vaccine is no reason to fear all vaccinations (or to think the government is using vaccinations to kill of portions of the population). My dad got that vaccine in '76, and he got pretty sick from it. He still gets flu vaccinations . . . when the doctor reminds him.

Actually you don't disagree at all, because we're talking about 2 different things, and I'm not saying I don't like flu shots, I'm saying that I don't necessarily agree with the current rush over swine flu. You do know there are different kinds right? And the current push to produce swine flu vaccine means that there are various methods being used to produce it and some of those increase the risks of side effects.
I am very PRO-VACCINE for most things.

per wiki....
in 2009 lethal H5N1 avian flu virus (http://board.spawn.com/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H5N1) from Baxter Pharmaceuticals was delivered to laboratories across Europe mixed with seasonal influenza vaccines.
Guess who's making the H1N1 vaccine?

I'm seeing on average 3 or 4 swine flu cases a day in my clinic. I know I've seen over 100 cases in the past month. Lost count a while ago.

Here's how it'll be, the cooler temperatures, people generally not having as much cash to go to the doctor, buy warm clothing, etc. will cause there to be a larger outbreak of flu cases and we'll all be running rampant trying to contain it.
OR
We'll have everyone reporting the slightest cough/sniffle/sneeze as swine flu and it'll seem like everyone is getting it even if not as many people actually get it.
I myself will be washing my hands every few hours, keep taking my vitamins, keep my hands away from my mouth/nose/eyes, and thanking God that I'm a young and healthy 23 year old man.:)
Hockeyfan74
09-15-2009, 09:16 PM
While I think Holdren is a bit of a radical whack job, I don't buy into these conspiracy theories that our government is out to thin the herd or allow 9/11, etc., etc.
I'm not naive to have faith in our government to protect us entirely either. History is full of Mother Nature exacting some means of population control. I agree with epidemiologists that it's only a matter of time before some pandemic trims the world population again.
Hockeyfan74
09-15-2009, 09:19 PM
Common sense and handwashing can't be stressed enough. I have been in small exam rooms with well over 100 flu cases in the past couple months (sometimes 2 or more patients with it) and haven't had so much as a sniffle. I wash my hands after every patient and often use sanitizer too.

I won't be running rampant to do a damn thing. If it gets all weird and paranoid out there, my ass will be bugging in. As long as utilities stay on we're good to go, and if they don't we're good for a while after that too. As I said before earlier in the thread, the danger is not so much from the bug, but from stupid ass reactions to it.
