Dont know if anyone already posted this. Dont know if anyone cares. And its a couple days late but Im not on here 24/7. Derian Hatcher announced his retirement the other day. Missed all of this past season due to injury. The guy was a helluva d-man. Absolutely vital part of my Dallas Stars. Especially in the playoffs. Dont know if there was more than 1 or 2 guys you'd hate to play against more than him as a forward. So long Derian.

I missed the news-thanks.
He's a throwback to the way most D-men used to play. Injuries, new NHL rules and age decresed his effectiveness the last few years but he was great for a long time.

Ya he was. He even had a helluva playoff with Philly in 08 after only playing I think 44 games in the season. Willed himself through it all while getting his knee drained like every game and was great for them. I wanted him to sign back with Dallas this summer if he had any thoughts of playing again but I knew deep down the injuries at his age would probably mean retirement. Definitely not the fleetest a foot. I knew he was and Ken Hitch**** also said it the other day that he was very underrated at moving the puck up the ice, especially that first pass out of the zone.

While Hatcher never lived up to his contract w/ the Flyers, I don't think he was as bad as people made him out to be. His 1st year was horrible but the last 2 he played Hatcher wasn't bad.

He had knee replacement surgery two weeks ago.

Hatcher was good, but he was also a bit of a cheap-shot artist in my opinion. Every friggin' time a ref was lookin' the other way, he was chippin' at somebody with something usually illegal. Yes, many guys do it. It just seemed the camera caught him doing it more often. Good player, yes, but I never liked the guy.

As a long time Oiler fan, Derian was one of the many Dallas Stars players I've learned to really dislike over the years...
