basically, have the opportunity to get an iphone in a trade. but i'm trying to assign a value to it to get an idea of how much extra cash to trade in. so, what is a good price one would pay on craigslist for a 3g 8gb iphone (used of course)? any input welcome

In good condition, it might be worth $200. That is about what they are going for, if you signed a contract it would be $99.

well, it's without a contract. a guy is trading me an iphone and some cash for my home theater. so i'm trying to make sure i'm realistic about how much cash i ask him to kick in

What are you going to do with it? Make sure you've got the savvy to unlock that thing before you go for it. Considering that the phone is not current gen, I'd say $150, but I'd also make sure the thing isn't hot.

Wow, they're only around $100-$150 now?

I know my roommate is buying the brand new ones on CL for between $350-$400. He then Jailbreaks them and sells them in Norway for like $700.

Word on the street is that it's the 3.0 update that's causing battery issues. I'm on a 1st gen as well and I think I saw something on Engadget about it. Anyway, 3.1 is supposed to fix it.
