I went to the Hayward show today and was encouraged by what I saw- a few more dealers, some I recognized from other Bay Area shows. They have big setups too- similar to what the F&S show dealers have. It just needs more word of mouth- then hopefully it will grow. Funny most of the stuff was McFarlanes, Hot Wheels, and toys- they need more baseball card and memorabilia dealers there- I think they should book some signings- that will draw new people (and dealers) and once they know it's there all the time, they will be more apt to come back...

Went early so a lot of guys weren't set up yet but found the new Kobe and Thornton regs I was looking for. Gonna try to go get that base signed by Joe today! Good game last nite! :D

Sammy...morning was good for singings too. Got a nice, clean Selanne on a custom base. Didn't see Giggy. Could have gotten just about any other players if I knew who they were! Passed on Scott N. ...seemed like he was in a bad mood.

Got to the Thornton signing too late. It was 3:30 and there was a worker there turning people away. Looks like I would have made the line if I would have been there 5 minutes earlier! Ah, maybe next time...

Oh, and I saw NFL14 leftovers at Hegenberger & Davis Walmarts. Got a Bush reg...:)

Thanks for the offer Sammy, but I don't think I can make it Thursday. It would be cool to get the Modano Retro signed. I got Selannes auto my Jets SP.

Anyone go to the Thornton signing today? Were there a lot of people?

There were 300 people who were guaranteed to get an autograph if you made it early enough to get a ticket. After that, you had to stand in line outside to try and get a signature before he left at 4pm. I got there at 10am and got a ticket for the 50-100 line and when I left at around 2:30, there were like 300 people outside waiting. This was the best free autograph session I've been to in years, very organized.

Also found NBA11 at either Hayward or Newark TRU, can't remember, no chases, Kobes, or Carmellos.

I'll be out for the Stars on Thursday. They'll be at the Fairmont I'm sure. But I hear Modano is on IR. Sorry Sammy...only have one Alex Smith and its my keeper. Saw leftovers of 2 NBA cases at TRU Blossom Hill today, along with a case of NFL. No variants or good stuff left at 4:00 p.m. of course. No more hockey anywhere! Mike, I finished my white Thornton last night and inserted him back into the clamshell. Thanks for your tips...the Dull Coat works well.

Thanks Mike. Since they play tonight, there won't be a morning skate. Think I'll just try for Turco in the afternoon. I've got Tix for the game...it'll be "black Thursday"! ;) Lots of NBA on the racks the last few days. Got Knicks Francis yesterday and left one this morn at Capitol TRU. Just missed a Mello yesterday but did find a Gates variant at Blossom Hill. Still no more NHL anywhere!??

I found a D Brook creamsicle jersey this morning at TRU on Blossom Hill Road and there was damage on the bubble on the top so I say to myself no biggie I'll get it to trade or sale it for cost. Stupid me dropped it while lookin at other figures on the peg  Guess what?... that's right his left hand broke off so I ended up leaving it there   .. Oh well the hunt goes on.

That is one sad story...Did you happen to notice the 12 blue Series 9 Antawn Jamisons clogging the shelves there? They put them out a few days ago. What an awesome find eh? Hey Bruce and Sammy - I have a favor to ask.

Do you guys still go to the Sharks to get autos?

If so I have a pic of Evgeni Nabokov - I would love to get personalized and signed. I'll gladly pay you some $$ to get it signed for me.

Let me know

Paul...good to hear from you man. How's life? If you send out the Nabby pic, I can get it signed...may take a few trips to the back gate, but he stops to sign sometimes. And there is always practice...Not sure what you mean by "Index Cards". I only take custom bases and unopened clamshells for signing.

Hey Sammy, I went out for Phoenix at 4:00 p.m. Got Cujo...passed on Comrie and Doan. J.R. didn't sign...something is going on with his daughter. Gretz came out with Fuhr just before the bus took off as ususal...waved but no signing. Cujo was pretty funny...someone asked if he was starting tonight, and he says yes. The guy goes "really?" Cujo says "Don't act so surprised boys" Then as he leaves to get into the cab, he turns around, smiles at us and says "Thanks for the vote of confidence guys". Pretty funny stuff...especially considering he won the game later that night.

Good games next week...Columbus (Federov, Nash) and Detroit (why bother listing them all right?). Looking for Datsuyk and Nash especially, but never got Sergei before either.

So I saw the damaged Brooiks this morning at TRU. Too much wrong with it to bother dropping the $11.00 on it. Still cannot figure out how that stash of Joes showed up Sammy...

Bruce - PM me your addy and I will get the pic out to you.

As for Index Cards - you know those 3x5 plain white cards. If you are ever out and there are people signing multiples or someone you don't have a base/fig for I would love some signed index cards for my collection - I like to frame this with pics

Thanks- had fun at Disney, despite the fact that it was super crowded.

Went to the Hayward show Weds night around 6:30. The sound of crickets chirping was unbearable- I think my coworker and I were the only nondealers there. I think the problem is nobody knows about it still - they need better marketing, or have signings to get people out there at least once for exposure. The Frank & Sons show is always packed on the weekends- I would think the Bay Area would show the same support for a weekly show, but maybe I am wrong.

Redwood City TRU looked like they received more NFL14, found 2 Polamalu, 2 Bush, and plenty of the others, but no chases. On top of some boxes in the middle was a dusty Kovy which wouldn't scan the price, so I took it to the counter for a price check. It came up $.01 and the lady said she couldn't sell it to me and it needed to be thrown away. I told her if that was the case, I would buy it and the manager said to go ahead and sell it to me for a penny.:D, so I bought that and 1 R. Bush.

Cool, than yeah we probably do know the same people. Ray does not ring a bell if I seen him maybe, plus I had left the first time in 2000; so I imagine you know Trish as she was the A's client rep and if you know Trish you know Tami!!

Yeah, I still see Trish around every once in awhile. :)

I will give you guys the update this week, as I have to send the program to the printer by Friday. Just finished up the first version of the pocket schedule; I put Swish on the front. :D

What are you looking for Sammy? I think I've hooked you up with A's tickets before so if you want to go to a game, let me know. I can't really guarantee autographs at FanFest because I have to work the event and it gets kinda hectic- the players do go to corporate booths for surprise visits, etc. and if I can get that info I will pass it along here. :D

Yeah, when I started going to the A's Fanfest again, Huddy was 1 autograph I wanted to get, but he wasn't attending anymore. Chavey was there 2 years ago, but I just got his jersey last year and want to get him to sign it now and get it framed. I called the book store at his SF signing and she told me that he would only be strictly signing his book. I didn't want to put him in the spot of signing my NFL ball like I did with Canseco when he signed my photo. Canseco made a comment to me that I was like the press, "Can't take NO for an answer", but he signed it anyway. Maybe it was the photo of him doing the Bash w/ McGwire that I had Mark sign awhile back;)

I hear he and Tabitha are expecting their second child within the month, so he might be busy! I did get you the following Sharks so far on the 3 X 5's with more to come: Clowe, Caryle and Vasic. went to the blues practice today they practiced in fremont i got a stick and about 7 guys practice was optional.sharks were cool as always got 28 pucks signed today all in all it was a good day if you out for the blues tommorow shouldnt be to many peole there with people going out of town and fanfest but no al mcinnis on this trip ill post my gots from fan fest tommorow i might be out for the blues after fanfest but not sure

also nabby only parks out front at practice or on the side and goes out the side door get there at early 9:00am you can catch him going in or 12:30 comin off the ice but he never parks out front on gamedays he hardly ever stops gamedays and if he does its when hes not playing only 1 has he stopped this year and signed for kids only at least he waves when he drives by.

Cool- I'm glad you were able to buy tickets because I was told they sold out in like 20 minutes. That was half of the allotment- the other half will go on sale at FanFest on Sat. morning at 8:30 AM at the WillCall windows on the hill between the stadium and arena.

This year FanFest will be open from 10am to 3pm; $10 admission with all proceeds going to the A's Community Fund and Camp Okizu- a foundation that helps kids with cancer.

Also, I was told that Piazza will only be signing balls and flats.

Who are you looking for Bruce? I'm supposed to get a list of where the players will be (I get to be an player escort for the day, telling kids "He can't sign anymore- he's gotta go- sorry!") so I can probably give you an idea of where to be at what time. ;)

P.S.- In years past, even though the players are scheduled to be in certain places at certain times as listed in the program (autograph sessions, coaches corner, Q&A, etc.) the players do make "surprise" visits to sponsor booths and the like. The last two years I've had to take players down to Gate C to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans waiting in line to get in in the morning. Last year it was fun to see peoples faces light up when they saw Joe Blanton and Mark Ellis walking up behind them! :D

I was told in a meeting yesterday that he will only sign baseballs and flats- we were given no further explaination. Maybe he is under contract with a company or something, I'm not sure. I don't think the base constitutes a flat but I guess you could try it- have a backup though in case they say no.

On our program Swish is scheduled to be at autograph session A at 1:45-2:30pm (this will sell out though before you get there I think) and at the Player Photo session ($20 for the photo) in the West Side Club from 10:45-11:30am. He is also scheduIed to be at the Q&A session on the field at 1:00pm. I don't see him listed elsewhere but he may make another appearance somewhere- I will let you know here or call you if and when I find out.

Eck is scheduled at the World Series trophy and memorabilia session at 11-11:30am ($5 gets your photo taken with him and the WS Trophies - East Side Club), at autograph area B at 12:30am-1:15pm, and the Player Photo area at 2:00-2:45pm. Hope that helps!

But the clubhouse tour and Q and A were great, and the rain held off till we were leaving. Gets me in the mood for spring training baby! Schedule looks intersting with the Cardinals coming in.

You south bay guys should know that Kids Dream is closing down on Monday. Chris will be doing mall shows and ebay selling and may resurface in Elk Grove or back in SJ with a better lease. Will be a sad day for me...it was great having so many SPs within a mile of my house. In Piazza's defense, I spent about an hour with him on Saturday and he tried to sign as many autographs as he could, given the huge mob that surrounded him at the Coaches Corner clinic. I met him after the Q&A session and then took him up to the clinic. He didn't sign any autographs on the way up, but that was my fault- in order to get the players to their next destination, I have to either tell fans no, or in some cases, they can sign as they walk. We got there a little early, so he started taking questions before Rene Lachmann got there. A huge crowd ensued, and I had to call in our head of security to help us out with 3 or 4 guards. While he was there he was polite and friendly, even though you could see that everyone was clamouring for an autograph. He did sign a few photos as we rushed back to the East Side club where we dropped him off. Later I know he made visits to the Chevron and John Muir Health booths, where he signed for about a half hour at each - I was with Bobby Kielty at the time at the Pepsi booth, so I got to see the the crowds around him.

Piazza had a scheduled autograph session and I heard he left at the time specified- with people who paid for autographs still in line, so that was probably the problem you heard about. I don't think it was an option for the players to stay though- each player has to be at specific location at a specific time, or the entire rest of their schedule gets thrown off. I was there when Swisher and Haren's paid auto session ended at 2:30; they stayed for an extra 20 minutes to finish off the rest of the line, but that was only because that was the last session of the day and they weren't schduled to be anyplace else.

And yeah, Piazza has a messy signature, but it's been that way since he was a rookie. :o

Yeah, I heard a lot of people complaining about Piazza leaving early when I was waiting in line for Harden, good thing I decided not to get his autograph ticket. He sold out fast when I was waiting in line to get a Crosby ticket since they decided to switch him from Session A to B and I preordered A online.

Finally saw one case of NHL Legends each at Winchester and BH TRU on Wed. Looks like Clark was the variant, since only 1 white was on the pegs at both stores. Only 1 Gretz left between the two stores. Saw about 5 reg Montanas this morn at Capitol TRU.

I've been to San Diego in 1992 and Seattle in 2001. San Diego was a blast- it was held at the convention center. The Seattle one was okay- a lot smaller area near Safeco Field. Any idea where they will hold it? Moscone Center would be cool; it's not too far away.

The Fanfest will be at Moscone Center West. Went to the Hayward show this afternoon. Man that place is cold and dreary, But there was a surprising amount of SP product there, between about 5 dealers. Picked up a Thornton Sharks and a Lundqvist variant for less than $40.00. The place has possiblities, but I don't know about the location. Time will tell. But with so few places carrying SPs, this is a good place to find some older stuff. Alex from Redwood City had some pretty good NHL variants; 4-5 each of Hasek and St. Louis, reg and Northstar Modano to name a few. Of course, lots of NFL stuff.

The Frank & Sons show is known for getting SPs early; if these guys can duplicate that it will be a major reason to check it out on a regular basis. Also, more dealers will make prices more competitive there. I might go Sat. MLB and legends out soon!

I wonder how the Cow Palace show will be next week; it's not known for having a lot of SP dealers unfortunately. :(

RC TRU have a bunch of DiMaggio, Maris, and Chavez. I found 2 Chavez across the aisle, but they had a bunch in the over-head storage area along with more Joes and Rogers. I'm thinking they got in solid cases of those 3 players. SM TRU have the Yankees and Cubs 3 packs.

Finally saw Cooperstown 4 at TRU today. 1 case of Dimaggio out at Blossom Hill this morning; 1 variant. Winchester had a full case each of Williams and Joltin Joe, and 1 reg Cooperstown case. About 32 figures left when I got there...no variants, but I heard it was also Joe. A full case of 3 inch Piazza is also at Winchester. Still have not seen any Chavez or series 17; heard there was a full case of Chavy at McKee on the East side on Wednesday, but they were gone by Thursday morn. Lots of Yanks and Cubs 3-packs (yawn). Carlton looks to be short printed from early reports. Only saw one today. Picked up Maris, Joe and Teddy ballgame regs, and the variant Joe, so not a bad day. Paint jobs and packaging is very good for this series!

Stopped by Hayward TRU yesterday- they had a few Cooperstown and MLB 17 leftovers- I think they had a bunch of Dimaggios above the rack- nothing of note. Marin TRU last night had some as well, in addition to a case of Chavez- there are probably about 5-6 left. Went to San Mateo around noon today and they had all Cooperstown (one Bench- what a great figure! - I left it), 3 Carltons, and a bunch of Ozzies (I checked the gloves to no avail), plenty of Joes (Dimaggio and Montana), Maris, and Teddy Ballgame. They also had what looked to be a full case of Chavy- there were at least 8 there when I left. Finally, went down to Redwood City and they had only a few Joes, Maris, and Teddys.

Also picked up a Dizzy, which completes my son's Bob the Builder die-cast collection. Bring it on,.Thomas the Train! :D

I'm assuming it will be like a regular show (Tri-Star?), but Anthony would know more than I. I'm going by Friday night after Blue Jackets autos at the hotel, when show admission is free :D just to see what's up and look for Taylor or Modano show exclusives. At least the venue will be top notch...not like the Cow Palace, and light rail stops right in front. Finally found Chavez in SJ the last 2 days. One solid case of him at both Blossom Hill and Winchester TRU. Missed the variant both times...but no worries ;) It seems very hard to find a Chavez package that is not scuffed or dinged. Out of about 20 that I've seen, I've only found one.

Very Nice Alex. I also scored a gold glove Ozzie this morning at Blossom Hill TRU. :D :D :D Today was the big opening day MLB display day. 2 cases of Coops at Blossom Hill; both with Williams variant. 5 cases at Winchester; only 5 figures gone as of 5:00 p.m., so only the variants sold there today. Assuming there were 2 Carltons, since only 3 are left on the pegs. Check those Ozzies carefully boys! I looked at it 3 times before I noticed the gold color. Mike...I'll post an update on the SJ show late Friday night after I get back from my son's band CD party.

So I checked out the San Jose show tonight. Mostly FB stuff; lots of jerseys, helmets and auto related stuff for the niner signers. Only one table had any appreciable SPs. Jason Taylor for $40.00...didn't bite on it. Bonds 700 HR boxed figs were $15.00 at one table. Lots of display cases. Hey Mike, the show is in a blue building just behind the main Convention Center just a bit further up south Market Street. Nice clean well lighted location. If you want to meet up while you are there, give me a call and you can come outside to pick up some figs. I actually found another Ted Williams variant today, so he's yours if you want him. And I also have that Giggy...LMK. B E A utiful night in downtown SJ tonight. Sharks fans gathering for the game, got Nash auto on his SP (Federov wouldn't sign as usual), had thick crust Round Table...its all good :D
