Well guys I just found out today that I have a broken right hand. I guess that happens when you punch a brick wall...oh well, what's done is done. Anyways, to add on to that answer about how you can find me. I'll now be sporting a splint on my right arm that goes all the way up my forearm. If you see that guy then you've found me :)
On another note, Moses Malone just lost a bunch of points in my book. He was in the store tonight with his wife looking at massage chairs. Before he left my Manager asked to get his autograph for the store and what did he say about 2 or 3 times,"You didn't give me anything free", then walks out. He will be my customer though since I helped him tonight but after that I almost don't want to help him. I mean I know he gets paid for his auto but c'mon. Stuff like that makes me sick!

Oh, man - the "tool" reference wasn't directed at you, TX33 - it was directed at the ex-athlete. Athletes today don't need stuff for free....they have more money that God. Perhaps a discount for an old jock, but not entirely gratis.

Of course, if someone like Nolan Ryan or Jose Cruz or Earl the Pearl came in, that'd be a little different. That's just me, though. :D

Believe me, I've put my fist through a couple of walls in my day - not brick, though. Heheh.

Got to Foley's @ Memorial City Mall (coming from Woodlands area) at approximately 9:55am today (line was already 60+ waiting) for Andre Johnson autograph.

My friend and I had a good time talking to people in line (learned David Carr will sign anything you put in front of him...doesn't care about the limit) and shooting the breeze. Made the 3 hrs and 45 minute wait go by pretty quickly.


Johnson was scheduled from 1-2pm but showed up promptly at 1:20pm with a guy who looked like Ludacris and another non-descript cronie.

From the moment he sat down to sign he looked like he'd rather be anywhere but signing his name for people who admire him.

My buddy went ahead of me and told Johnson he really appreciated being able to get his signature and got zilch for a response :confused: - to top it off, my friend handed Johnson the ball the way he wanted him to sign it and Johnson flipped it over and signed right below the BAR CODE.

I didn't fare much better. I handed him the ball and said "you did great this season" and "thank you" after he signed the ball. I got a barely inaudible and emotionless response of "thanks."

I was tempted to say, "I got here at 9:55 this morning. What time did you get here? Oh, 20 minutes late, huh?" but chose not to...in retrospect I could've had a Seinfeld moment -

"Oh YEAH?! Well the Jerk Store called, they're runnin' outta YOU!!!!!!"

Despite the cold reception from Johnson (he was like to everyone), the autograph was free.

I was expecting exactly what Andre Johnson acted like today...a boring guy with not much to say. He's a great athlete, but from everything I've read in the papers, he's not a jerk...he's just very soft-spoken and doesn't like attention and fame.

I was just thrilled to get his autograph (especially for free), so I can't be too negative about it.

I'm getting Julius Jones tomorrow at Tri-Star.

Great show today guys! Montana was there who I really wanted to see but couldn't due to all the people and the way they had the line formed. I did get to see Ozzie and Hall though so that was cool.
When I saw Hall though he was sitting there on a cell phone just talking and smiling away and I thought to myself what a jerk, how can he have the nerve to sit there and talk while making all these people wait! That wasn't the case though, I watched long enough to see him hand the phone back to the person in the front of the line getting the auto. I guess the guy called a friend of his and asked if Dante could talk to him which then I thought that was pretty cool of him to do that and make that guys day. I mean how often do you get to hear, "Yes, this is really Dante Hall"on the other end of the line...to cool :D
Anyways, tomorrow is the last day guys so stop by and say hi if you get a chance. I don't want to take any of ths stuff home with me fellas so I'll be making deals all day long...a better one if you give me your board name. Yes Houston boardies, today is my birthday and February (25th) is my two year anniversary on the boards.

I only want to get a few figs before I cease collecting full time. I want to shift focus onto bigger things (Digital SLR camera, surround sound, HDTV, new computer) and can't do both collecting and buying high end electronics etcetera unless I don't want to pay bills or eat on a regular basis. Plus the lineup for 2005 doesn't really excite me all that much.

So today was my first day back to the gym after breaking my right hand about 3 weeks ago. I get done with my work-out and go to shower up. As I'm turn the corner I noticed a well-built guy about my height right across from from my locker.
As I'm standing there getting my shower stuff out and I look over at the man across from me and I think to myself, "he looks just like Aaron Glenn." I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything to him, that is until he turned toward me and I saw the huge AG tatooed across his right pec. Now if that didn't give it away then I don't know what will.
He was trying to keep low-key I noticed so I didn't make a big deal out of it. I congratulated him on the Texans good season before hitting the shower and he just said, "appreciate it." He's not much of a talker I thought to myself but then I overheard him tell someone he was sick so that made sense about the short reply. I don't like to say to much either when I'm sick.
Before I left I wished him and the team good luck next year and got the same response back.
I just thought this was a pretty cool experience and thought some of you would like to hear about it. I thought about asking for his auto to but how weird would that have been, especially while we're both standing there naked...lol. Uhhh, I don't think so! Besides he was sick so I just let the man be :D

P.S.-Have any of you ever seen this man close up? He's built like a tank and
his thighs look like tree trunks. No wonder why he's so damn quick!

Looks like I need to start taking my Sharpie with me to the gym. I was working out today when I looked up and saw Shane Reynolds walking down the aisle looking for an arm machine.
Although, if you don't follow baseball you never would've known who he was or that he more money than he knows what to do with. I say that because he was looking pretty rough, looked like he had just woken up actually, and was wearing some pretty wrinkled sweats. Other than the fact I already knew what he looked, th eonly reason I saw him is because he's so tall. You could easily see him towering over all the machines.
Anyways, it wasn't as cool as seeing Aaron Glenn the other day but still pretty cool I though. It looks like this gym is the place to belong to right now. I wonder who I'll see tomorrow...hmmm?

I always go at the times when the SP's should be out and they either haven't been put out or they are put out and employees got the chase fig's. Seems like the worst TRU in houston as far as SP's go. I've found them numerous times at other TRU's in houston.

Well I went the family and I went to watch Episode III this past Friday. We went kinda early to beat the night time crowd...pretty good movie. It did answer a few questions I've been wondering about.

I think the coolest part about the whole thing was when the movie was over. As we were leaving I turned around to tell my wife something and guess who was walking behind her...Yao Ming! I think my wife came up to about his waist...lol! Man and I thought Shaq was a big when I saw him, this kid is a giant. He wasn't signing autos though, just shaking hands. What made it better was that he's my oldest son's favorite athlete and for him to see him in person up close made his day :) We told him to shake his hand but he was to shy to go over. Pretty cool experience all in all.

Just letting the hockey collectors know that TRU on Old Spanish Trail had out about 20 different series 3,4,5. Of course no variants and some of them have been long time peg warmers in other area's. There was a series 3 Osgood that looked pretty nice. I don't know where they came from, but I know they totally cleaned out their backroom several months back?

In other news:


Yesterday (6/26/05) my wife and I were driving on Interstate 45 North on our way to Minute Maid Park to see the Astros/Rangers game, and the strangest sight caught my eye:


Spider-Man on a motorcycle.



I'm not kidding.



There was a grown man (who pulled down his mask as he was entering the freeway from the feeder road) who was dressed in the Spider-Man costume (movie version) and had a Spider-Man themed bike with the font from the movies, as well.


I'm sure it wasn't the *actual* spider-man costume, but it was a quality version - it even had the raised silver webbing that's on the movie costume...the guy was in good shape as well - no beer guy or The Simpsons "Comic Book Guy" physique.

He was only going around 55 mph to make sure everyone could see him...but I saw no promotional markings (URL, dates, etcetera) on the bike.

Does anyone know about this or have they seen it themselves? I called my older brother to tell my nephew and my brother thought I was talking out of my arse.

And no, this bike was not the OCC "Black Widow" bike. This was a Ducati style racing bike.

Any info is appreciated - especially pix. Thanks!

I said, ask for "Steves...Don't go to the other guy...he's too pricey."

Yes, they were both fan friendly...Ensberg more than Berkman, though. Berkman smiled and said, "Oh," with a smile when my wife remarked to him that she liked his play during games manning first base...Berkman was very meticulous in signing, though. He was signing my bat like it was his own...which ironically, it was (a Berkman model). :)

When we walked up to Ensberg he smiled and I asked him to sign the ball on the sweet spot, which he responded, "sounds good to me!" My wife told him he made baseball fun to watch again and he smiled and said "thank you."

Berkman looks different in person...my wife said he was "much more handsome" in person than on the field/on tv. I did notice he looked different, though. Couldn't place why, however. Berkman seems taller than I thought, too. Poor Ensberg has that whole "deer in the headlights" look going for him all the time - it's not just on tv.

All in all it was an awesome experience - never been that close to a pro athlete - I could have punched them in the face, we were so close!

Did you and Other Steve #2 clear a lot of inventory this past weekend? I'm sure you did more than that other guy from the board (troutkiller?)...his prices were unreal.

Hey guys, just read the above post about being friendly. Ernie Banks who is the "nice guy" in the autograph world was a, ......... lets say "male anatomy". If I hadn't spent so much money on the auto, I would have threw the ball back at his old arse. He was talking to some chick about getting him some popcorn didn't even look up and then rolled the ball back to me. Johnny Bench on Sunday was awesome. Talked to everyone like they were lifelong friends. I don't expect these guys to crawl over the table and kiss my feet, but man it stinks when they don't even care.

Well that's good to hear. Luckily I can say that I've never had a bad experience getting an auto. Not sure if you like hockey or not but those are the coolest guys out there when it comes to autos. They're usually always willing to take a pic, shoot the breeze a bit and be polite about it the entire time :)
As for our inventory, we did move out quite a bit. Alot more than Johnny aka Troutkiller i'm sure. Which reminds me, I have to post a little message for him after I'm done here. I'd look for it Tim because it's going to be quite interesting. Anyways are you going to be at the next show in January? I'll definitely be set up again and more than likely Steve will be with me to :) Contemplating the NBA A.S. show as well...hmmmm
