Alright kids, another wave has just hit and here they are. Andy is still needing 2 Kyyshk Troopers from the previous series. As for these, he'll need the 2 troopers and the Shadow Guard :D

Just saw on ESPN that Carr is supposed to meet with the Giants this week. He'll serve as Eli's back-up and will be working under the same Offensive Coordinator he did while he was a Texan.

Thoughts anybody???

The same OC??? When did Gilbride work for the Texans? Who am I missing here?

Steve, I should have called you on my trip back from Fort Worth a week or so ago. I saw part of that wave at a WM. Pretty much all of them but the 2 clone troopers. That Shadow Guard was sweet. I didn't pick him up because I thought all your boy collected was the troopers.

My bad!

That's cool Blake. Just don't let it happen again!!!:D e does mainly troopers but he does like the guards because they're "cool" looking with that helmets and all.

As for the OC, don't shoot the messenger bro. I was just going off of what I heard on ESPN and it's not Gilbride, it was Palmer.

UN*** BELIEVABLE.....20 IN A ROW!!! I can't wait until they play the Lakers this Sunday!

I figured you got it from somewhere. I'm incredulous that anyone writing for a sports page could think Carr can be saved at this point. Didn't the Texans run Palmer off because he couldn't do anything with Carr?

In that thread about SP's we'll never see someone posted David Carr 2. That made me laugh out loud!

Even when they finally lose, they'll still be ahead of the Mavericks.

I really hope you guys had fun mortgaging your future for 2-3 decent years of a point guard that can't shoot or defend quick guards.

You should take a picture so you can remember it because it won't stay that way for long.

I don't think Dallas mortgaged anything. They'll trade Kidd's massive expiring contract next year and get back 1-2 good players that will continue to keep the Mavericks near the top of the standings.

Jason Kidd shooting 45% from the field and 57% from 3-pt range as a Maverick. I can live with that.

Winner of what? The "I gave away a good young point guard for a guy who actually makes our team worse because nobody has to guard him" sweepstakes?

You're in dream land if you think they'll get 2 (or even 1) good players for a guy that makes as much as Kidd and is on the downside of his career. Not every owner is Cuban.

Winner as in, not below .500 in a crappy conference. Kidd is happier where he's at now, and it's showing in his numbers.

You must not be aware that salary dumps in the NBA are extremely common. When a team has a player who has an expiring contract in the summer, they can trade that player and get back good players, albeit also overpaid since the contracts have to match, and the team getting the expiring contract gets to have cap room to go after a big free agent.

How do you think the Lakers got Pau Gasol for a package centered around Kwame Brown's $9M expiring contract? Maybe the Mavs won't get quite as sweet of a deal as the Lakers got, but they will get something back of value. It's not like Cuban will simply just let Kidd go somewhere else without having the ability to do anything (which would be the case since they are over the soft cap).

Smbdyfnkillme
03-18-2008, 03:08 PM
The Lakers getting Gasol is completely irrelevant. The Grizzlies are going through ownership turmoil and wanted to get rid of as much salary as possible. How often are you going to find a team that's willing to make a stupid trade like that? Even the coaches for several teams were complaining about that one.

Jason Kidd is the 3rd highest paid player in the league. I'd love to see you find a team that would take that contract and give up the amount of players needed to make that contract work. Basically, you couldn't even trade him straight up for LeBron because Kidd's contract is too high. There is no way the Mavs find another team willing to take that contract without getting a bunch of crap in return. How exactly will that make them a winner?

The only teams that make trades like the one you want are teams that are trying to win really fast. Unfortunately, the amount of players that they would have to trade would take them out of contention almost immediately. If this trade is made....feel free to call me on it, but I seriously doubt it. The Mavs will eat the contract, go nowhere and have to find a point guard and another center again.

I'm not saying they won't get some crap in return...and the Mavs may even have to sweeten the deal a bit to get a big star (like how Boston had to include Al Jefferson with Theo Ratliff's expiring deal and other crap in order to get Kevin Garnett). You keep talking about Kidd's contract like it's something that other teams wouldn't want. They'd only have to pay 2 months (and Cuban would probably toss $3M to them in the trade to help pay for him) of it before they'd have $20M of cap room to work with.

I'm pretty sure Carlos Boozer will be a free agent in the summer of 2009. Why wouldn't a middling team like, say Milwaukee, be interested in making a big run at Boozer by clearing out some cap room such as Michael Redd's remaining $30M+ contract in 2009 and 2010. It wouldn't even take much more from Milwaukee to match Kidd's salary in that situation.

Mavs get an overpaid, yet still talented Michael Redd.
Bucks get $20M of soon-to-be cap space to go after the top free agent.

Smbdyfnkillme
03-18-2008, 03:29 PM
That's the problem with Mark Cuban and why the Mavs won't ever win a championship while he owns them. He's never heard of cap room. He's only slightly better than Daniel Snyder (owner of the Redskins). The worst thing the Mavs could possibly do is make a bad trade worse by trading Kidd for some more junk. Here's a wild idea that Cuban would never go for. Keep Kidd until his contract expires and go after the big free agent yourselves. Oh wait, Cuban's the owner. Nevermind.

OK, I'm pretty much done here because it's obvious you don't understand how the cap works. Even if Cuban did let Kidd walk away, the Mavs would still be at least $20M over the cap, which means they can't sign anybody other than the mid-level exception, which every team gets.

Cuban's methodology has kept Dallas as one of the elite teams in the NBA for close to 10 years now...and they've come awfully close to winning 1 title. It's too late to change the approach now, especially when they are still just as close as anyone else is this year to winning a title.

It's really not comparable since the NFL has a hard cap and the NBA doesn't.

Plus, you're contradicting yourself saying that the Mavs should sign their own big free agent (isn't that what Daniel Snyder does?).

Sure, and it gets them to the exact same spot. Nowhere. If Cuban could swallow his pride and try to rebuild, you guys might do something one day. Instead, he puts a band-aid on the team and tosses them back out there the next year. It didn't work the last 5-7 years and it's not going to work this season.

I wouldn't worry about it. The only slow people who would get burned against that offense wouldn't be playing in the playoffs anyway. Yao and Hayes. Hayes will go right back to the bench once Landry gets back (tonight?). I love Hayes for his hussle, but his defense is suspect/nonexistent.

Close? The goal is to actually win. These flawed teams that Cuban keeps putting together don't have a chance. The only other person that you could blame is Dirk, but you wouldn't want to blame your precious "star" now would you?

Do you honestly believe that patching a flawed team is better than rebuilding? That's the kind of attitude that will keep the Mavs and the Suns in the same spots that they are. Eventually this will blow up in his face. You can only keep dragging Dirk, Terry and Stackhouse out there for so long before you discover that that's not the answer.

How much longer is this going to go on? The Mavs and Suns do the same thing every year. Dominate the regular season and then get to the playoffs and...... The only difference this year is that the patches actually served to make both teams worse.

I'm not saying the Rockets are any better, but at least they'll have the smarts to blow up this team in a year or two if they still haven't done anything.

Of course the goal is to win it all. You still can't hold Cuban responsible for not sealing that series. I think you can blame Howard for calling a timeout he didn't have and Stackhouse for getting suspended.

The Suns did change it up...look where that got them - being ridiculed by just about everyone.

Born and raised in Dallas...moved to Houston when I was 23 because my fiancee grew up in Spring. I didn't really mind because she can rely on her family a bit when I have to go out of town for work.

I really don't mind Houston teams...I actually semi-root for the Texans and Astros just because they rarely have any direct effect on what the Dallas teams do and they are on TV anyways, so I'd prefer to watch good football and baseball if possible. I don't root for the Rockets since they are in the same division as the Mavs, but I'll admit that I have been intrigued by the streak and hoped (I say hoped because it looks like it's about to end) that it would keep going. It's pretty remarkable that they are doing this with this motley crew (no offense).

Still not that bad.

It'll be interesting to see if Dallas can start to overachieve (without Dirk) like the Rockets have been able to do without Yao.

Hopefully, we can find our own Crazy Eyed Killah.

You don't live in Dallas. If you really loved it so much, you'd go back. Instead, you'll stay in Houston and cry about us hating Dallas and their terrible owner.

Good luck winning games with Kidd as one of your main options.

Believe me...I probably would move back if the housing market didn't collapse. We're pretty much stuck where we are for awhile.

I don't think I'm "crying" about it...more like just pointing out the obvious. 1 thing is for sure, when I go to Dallas for work (leaving tomorrow), I don't hear Dallas fans calling in asking for Houston fans to move back to Houston (probably simply because there aren't many up there). I'll still take Kidd over Rafer...who knows...maybe he can put together a nice little run like Rafer did.

Nobody told you to move back. The problem is you keep coming on the "Houston" board to talk about Dallas. News Flash: Besides you and CNote; nobody else cares. You weren't even that annoying before. All of sudden, Houston has a historic run and you want to hate all the time and talk about Dallas. We don't care about Dallas today, tomorrow or anytime in the future. We only dissed them when you started your hatefest.

Don't worry. One day Mark Cuban's master plan of patching the holes instead of starting over is going to work. He already has a PG who can't shoot. Maybe he'll trade for a Center who won't post up. Oh wait....Dirk's already there.

Sorry, but you have a very poor memory. I have never brought up Dallas on this board. Do I discuss it when other people talk about it? Sure. That doesn't mean that I come on the Houston board to talk about Dallas.

It looks like you were the one that brought up Dallas recently - http://board.spawn.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8252532&postcount=4776

It's also very poor on your part to call me a hater. I already said that I don't even care that much about the Rockets. This all started when I casually made a post about Rafer Alston playing better than he ever has, and you get all pissy about it and bring the Mavericks into it. I'd love to see all of the posts I made that constitute a "hatefest" towards the Rockets...please fill me in on those.

For someone who hates talking about Dallas, you seem to have some infatuation about a) bringing them up and b) responding to everything that I say.

Not to offend anyone here but all this bickering is getting really old. Personally, I don't like coming to this thread to see a bunch of people bickering about this and dissing that..ENOUGH ALREADY ...GEEZ!!!

I have two young boys that do it all the time so I get more than my share of bickering and fighting. The last thing I care to see or read about when I come to this thread is more of the same freakin thing. I love them dearly but I have to put my foot down with my two boys all the time, it's a shame that I have to be the one to do it on here as well!

I remember back when all we talked about on this thread was trading and picking up the latest figures and making the best trades! Apparently those days are gone and this is what it's come down to...tsk, tsk, tsk. A bunch of adult men unneccesarily blowing things out of proportion. Shame on you all. Can't we all just get along and use this thread what it was originally meant for? I've made some good friends on this forum mainly because of this thread and I'd hate to see that come to an end. I'd like to think that the majority of us on here consider each other as friends if not then I apologize for my assumption.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for my venting but this really is ridiculous guys. I don't mean to offend. If you guys want to bash each other then feel free but take it elsewhere. There are plenty of other threads or forums where they encourage that type of behavior but in my opinion this isn't one of them.

Oh, and for the record my favorite hockey team is the Dallas Stars and I grew up a Oiler and Cowboys fan. I'm a Texas boy at heart but a hometown boy first and foremost. I love my Texans but still root for the Cowboys when I can because I always have and that will never change. I used to live in Plano and do miss it. I will probably never move back to Dallas because Houston is home and this is where my family is but if I had to I would have no problems doing so :)

Oh, and as for the meet yesterday. I didn't see a definite time or if we were even doing it so I didn't plan on it. Give me some info in concrete and I'll be there :D

Relax Steve. Nobody's getting angry. If we actually had anything else to talk about, we would do it. Unfortunately, TMP is doing everything in their power to drive away the hardcore collectors. That leaves me with nothing to talk about except for a 12" repaint of L.T. and a Barry Sanders that comes out in late 2009. Yay!!!

Besides, we usually call each other if we're looking for something.

How did I start with hate? I mentioned that Rafer Alston was playing better than he ever has! How is that "hate"?

It's a Houston thread, so I figured a comment on the Rockets was warranted. You were the one who brought up the Mavs, even if you claim it was just in defense of me "hating" on the Rockets.

I only brought up the Mavs when you brought up the Rockets. End of story.

Oh, because bringing up the Rockets in a Houston thread is so unwarranted. You need to save your animosity for a real troll who sincerely hates your team and your city.

I just hope that the fact that I have a Nowitzki avatar doesn't mean that this thread becomes the Mavericks thread. sigep001,
You can't get upset and make comments in a Houston thread just because we rip on Dallas a little bit. We are in the same division and both fighting for a playoff positioning. Believe me, we know what its like to have players go down. And as far as who cares about what, Mavs fans are the exact same...they don't want the Rockets to have a better team.

I've never met Sigepoo1, but assume he's a great guy, certainly witty and knows his Mavs quite well! I enjoy that kinda stuff, just ask Collin! He also got a Prototype Iron Man at Super Target in Sugar Land. I scored the Cobb at the SWM by my house and the other 2 at the Bunker Hill TRU. I'm indifferent on the packaging since I'm an opener. If it saves TMP some money so that they can make more figures into the future, then I guess it's a good thing.

On the chases, I'm happy with it. I don't care about the tweaks, but I like the retro/alternate jersey figures, and now I'll be able to get them for retail rather than paying more than that on the secondary market. TMP will probably get more of my money because of this, so I'd say it's a good move on their part.

Smbdyfnkillme
04-12-2008, 09:06 AM
I've already moved on to other things. McFarlane has been making bad decisions for a while. I'll still buy Houston players and the one 12" figure that they release each year, but that's about it. I don't need 50 L.T.s in my collection.

Cardboard is bad. What some people don't seem to understand is that people will eventually get tired of this hobby. When they do, they would like to get at least some of their money back. Damaged cardboard packaging is going to make sure that those collectors get as little back as possible. These things already don't hold their value as it is. Newer chases are worth nothing because they make way too many of them.

At first it didn't make sense to me that the Diamondbacks would give up the closer with the most saves in the league last year.

Now, I completely understand.

See what happens when you have to work. They had Retro Shannon Sharpe, Sanders/Rice two pack, HOF Aikman, Falcons Deion 2 and Ravens Deion 2 in the warehouse finds section of the online Spawn store.

I picked up one of each except for the Ravens Deion.

I went by the 1960 TRU and the Woodlands TRU this morning looking for Michael Young or Josh Hamilton in MLB 21.

Only MLB 21 at 1960 was Mauer and Posada. Nothing at the Woodlands, probably because there isn't any room for new figures to be put out (due to all of the Cooperstown figures and MLB 20 still clogging the pegs).

04-23-2008, 11:17 AM

Well I answered my own question. Stopped by the Sugar Land TRU during lunch and found a fresh case of MLB 21 complete with a nice Nomar Retro! Also picked up one Dice-K and the only Mauer. That Mauer fig btw is freakin sweet! :D

As for the assortment,

Dice-K x2
Posada x2
Soriano x2
Mauer x1
Nomar Retro

I'm sitting here trying not to watch this game tonight.

The Rockets look like they have never played together before this series. Their spacing is terrible and it doesn't help that Deke is a complete non-factor for points. And when did T-Mac's bad left shoulder cause him to take all the arc out of his jumper?

I can honestly say that there isn't a team I despise more in professional sports than the Utah Jazz. I can't explain it but I know it goes way back.

Please let Deke catch Okur with a bony elbow tonight...

Thanks,

Not Flashy, but how can you go against anything Rick Smith and Kubiak has done so far? We've needed a left tackle since the beginning of this franchise, they think they found him! I really like the Steve Slayton and Dominique Barber picks, alot of potential there, And looking forward to seeing the CB Antuan Molden contribute! I really thought Rashard Mendenhall was our pick at 18, but it sounds like they had the tackle targeted from the get-go.

can't believe they passed on Mendenhall  but the Cowboys did too:mad:....Andre Johnson needs help...They could have picked up Brown later on....

mcree8
04-28-2008, 03:10 PM
yeah, I thought Mendenhall was our guy too, after Cromartie was gone, but listening to Kubiak, they had Brown targeted all the time, said Alex Gibbs was very vocally about what he could do, they really liked the fact that he used to play tight-end, and has very quick feet! Sounds like, without a 2nd rounder, they weren't afraid to reach a bit, Guess we'll see. I think Andre Johnson has plenty of help from Andre Davis, Johnson just needs to stay healthy, and we'll be ok!

Unbelievable Will!!!!!!! That room looks awesome bro, from the pics, it looks like you have almost every one of those autos on the wood bases??? Nice work my friend, although the Cowgirls stuff makes me puke, I do have to admit that's a sweet-***** setup!!!
