OK I don't feel half as bad. It was a great plan but poorly executed tongue.gif . Maybe we should meet somewhere else other than a Bar or Food place. How about maybe a Park? Memorial,Herman or Transco tower? BYOB, maybe BBQ?? that way we can talk, we can bring our figs and not look like a bunch of TOOLS :D and if we get stuck with our kids at least we could bring them along. What do yall think just my .02

Yeah-This was a pretty piss-poor effirt fellas. We have a pretty good community going here on the Spawn Board, and we tried to take it Live, but it crapped out?? There are two things that need to be done to get this thing rolling I think:

1) Make trades here first. To my knowledge, there weren't but 1 or 2 trades going down at the Meet, so there was really no incentive for people to show.

2) Had the Meet at a place charging $10/person to watch a WWE PPV.

We need to scout our places better, and time the next meet to coincide with the next release of SportsPicks figures. A BBQ at a park is fine by me, but someone better have a grill and people better the hell show up if we go to that much trouble.

PS-Sorry you headed up there Dane after Eddie and i left. We were told to pay $10 for the WWE PPV, or go the the free side (which was bursting at the seams). Since no one else was there, we decided to leave. Oh well, hope we can do this much better next time!

Alright guys, since I was the "organizer" so to speak for this meet I'll have to step up and say I did screw up on the who to look for, where to sit part of it. I assure you guys that it won't happen again smile.gif

Now since this one didn't go over to well I'm going to try and get another one set up(unless someone else wants to do it). I know we had originally planned the first meet in May so what do you all say to that? Before I make any more suggestions though I want to hear you alls opinions on this. Once I get that I'll throw out some times, dates and places and no, BW3's won't be in there :rolleyes

Now I know Matt had suggested we meet when a new line breaks. That would be fine with me as well. As you all know I do mostly NHL so I couldn't really make any trades, unless they were with Eddie(NME) anyways. I was really looking forward to the swap so I could meet other board guys and just make some new friends. If I made a trade, cool. If not, I made some new friends :D Besides I don't get much of a chance these days to just have a guys day out away from the kids and wife. Besides trading that was my main objective for this meet...anyone else feel the same? graemlins/spawnorb.gif

If these things I have been eyeballing for a while now go through, I will have PLENTY to trade in terms of football. Why? Because I will be finally freakin done! Unless NFL6 and 7 have a bunch of badass poses then it's gonna be craptacular all over again.

Guys, here's my take on the "meet":
I agree with Steve, in that it isn't imperative that we all have trades worked out for a meeting. Let's face it, some of us have more than others available to trade, and we don't all collect the same sports, etc...it would be COOL to do some trading there, but it isn't a necessity. I have tried to pick up stuff that I thought some of you might want, and in one case agreed to sell at cost because Kevin didnt have anything to trade that I need for my collection, which is fine too. It would be neat just to meet everyone and shoot the *****, and get a better feel for what everyone collects, etc, which might make trading easier down the line. As far as the "venue" for a meeting, I've never been to BW3's, but it sounds like the real problem there was the 10.00 entry fee that particular day. As far as a park, I would vote "nay" on that one. Guys, I just think the first meeting should be a "GUYS night out" only type of thing....if we had it at a park, we'd have wives and kids coming, (Don't get me wrong, I love my wife and kids) and to me, that would seem kind of odd....I mean we all haven't even met yet. It would seem kind of awkward to me to drag the families into it at this point. Let's do the guys night thing, then go from there if we decide to have another one. Just my opinion, feel free to chime in!! tongue.gif -Dane

What Dane just said. Thanks for being our mouthpiece! ;)

04-30-2003, 07:32 PM
C'mon, where are the rest of you guys? I know Dane, myself and Matt aren't the only ones with any opinion here. Let's hear what you all have to say. It'll only make the next meet that much better if we all have our opinions known.

Now back to busniness...of the hunting sorts that is. Has anyone found anything lately? I've been on a dry spell for the past month or so, until today that is :D I finally found a Wings 3-pack today(thanks Dane) at the First Colony GS. They had two so I bought one and Dane the other(Dane, if you can't move that sucker you know who to call ;) ).

So feeling lucky I decided to call a few other GS's...BAM! I've now got me another 3-pack on hold at another local GS. It was the only they got and it's mine, all mine (insert evil laugh here). Seeing how well that went I decided to hit the Swee****er TRU and boy did they have a ton of stuff there. All 4 sports and the older NBA and MLB was all marked down to $5.98. I skipped that and dug through all the newer figs, score! I found myself a white Francis. Not a great fig but a variant none the less :D (Dane and Eddie, you must've overlooked this one). So I grabbed it and the 2 Kovy's. I was gonna get some of the Kobe's but I had my boys with me so I bought them something to...gotta spread the love ya know! I may go back and pick up a few later on :D

So while I was there I found out that the Wings of Redemption Spawn(reborn Series) is a pretty hard piece to come by. So continueing on my luck streak I make a couple calls and WHAM! I've now got me one of those on hold as well. Gonna pick it up tomorrow(start thinking Eddie tongue.gif )

Just when I thought I was done. I make one more call and I now have a Morris and Ichiro variant on hold for me. However I'm still debating on those two. Does anybody need them because if not I may just pass those up and leave them for someone else

So all in all I think I've had a pretty good day SP wise. Looks like my streak is back and in full effect...AWWW YEAHHH!!! :D

P.S.-If any of you all need anything lmk. Who knows I may get lucky and come across it or may know someone that can get it ;)

nme
04-30-2003, 09:21 PM
you know, I think I saw that white francis but I was a little more blinded by that damn Salo and the tons of T-Bos. Well at least one of us picked it up. Man that TRU was loaded. If any of you come across those new batman figs where it is batman and some other character. If you guys happen to walk by Batman and Batgirl, I want that. I'll trade something from the vault for those.

VikesGuy
05-01-2003, 06:32 AM
Eddie, can you give us a little more info on these Batman/Girl figs? Are they Spawn? I usually don't look at the non-sports stuff too close, so I'm kind of uneducated on the lines...However, now I will be much more astute on those lines, as I would just love to tap into that vault you speak of <borrow Steve's evil laugh, insert here>
You know, that dark space in the back of the closet, next to Urlacher and the girlie mags... :D

Packfantilldeath

Dane,
No mail back yet about us meeting up for the figs.LMK

As for the meet, I just think it should be a place that we wouldn['t have to basically yell at each orhter to be able to hear. As for BW3 when I got there at 7-7:15 no one was charging to get in so that was not a problem. The problem was I had no idea who I was looking for #1 and #2 I got stuck with my little boy and that place was SMALL, Loud and kinda grungy if you know what I mean maybe a little nicer place and bigger would be best.

For the trading. Most of you have been collecting these for awhile. My biggest downfall is I'm a newbie, I open so MOMC doesn't last in my house. also I lack the ammo to even attempt to trade for anything, so that is why I normally just buy. I did preorder case of NFL 6/7 so I will have trade bait but not until then.

The Batman 2-pack figs are not from mcfarlane. They're like mattel or something like that. But the details are really nice and they look just like the cartoon. I think the Batman and Batgirl two pack may be a walmart exlcusive, but from what I read in a few posts somewhere they are like special inserts like the Hank Scorpio simpson fig. I'm thinking they're as common as a gasol fig.

Anybody in the hizzouse that has a Reg. O/M Iverson for trade or sale?

The Batman/Batgirl pack is part of the new line of Batman 2-packs that have him paired with characters like: Robin, Joker, and Catwoman. They are Hasbro, not TMP Products. 5" tall.

As for the meet, I'm pretty much free after May 10th, so whatever's cool with me. It's hard to talk in bars unless it's say, the dining area of Two Rows, which is more quiet than the bar area but still has TV's for sports.

VikesGuy
05-01-2003, 08:55 PM
Shaotime: Didn't Voyager have a handful of Iverson's not long ago? I remember one was priced at 30 bucks, but I can't remember if it was because it was a variant, or if it was open or closed mouth...but they definitely had 5-6 or so Iverson's at least, but it was a while back.

Kevin....YGM regarding our deal.

Steve....picked up another Red Wings 3 Pack today, now I have 2. Got a deal for ya...I'll give you one of them now, you give me a Carr variant later...I know you gots the connects!

Matt: Bro, you got all the old football in Houston....Do you have any of these dudes extra to trade....Tomlinson, Warner, and cough cough..ummm, Smith or Urlacher? And by the way, what are you looking for these days?

Eddie: Suppose I happen across this Batman/Girl...wassup in the vault?

Dane-
All my old NFL is gone. All I have is the corrected "Moss" figure and an Emmitt. The Emmitt isn't going anywhere though, as I traded the other 5 I had at one point for variants to complete my sets. Last I checked, Nan's still had a Harrison and Chrebet regular, but that is it. To my knowledge, it is eBay for NFL1 and 2 for all Houstonites. Sorry man!

I finally completed my collections for now. COMPLETE NFL 1-5 (minus No Helmets though :( ) and COMPLETE MLB 1-4. I'm just awaiting MLB 5 and 6, and NFL6 and 7. I have ordered 3 cases of NFL6 and 7. Dane (and anyone else on the board): After I get the one David Carr variant I need for my set, I'll nab all the rest I see for you, if you'll grab all the Cowboys Emmitt repaints you find for me? I figure both these pieces will be HOT, and you know how big of a Cowboys fan I am!

Also, I know I'm probably the only one who collects MLB in our little community, so when MLB5 hits, I'll need any and all variants (well, one of each) for my set. So I commission the Board for help in my quest.

Steve: I got a baseball game on Saturday and Sunday. Might be going out on Friday, so maybe we can meet then to do our swap? If not, call me and let's shoot for Saturday sometime. If you happen to be in my neighborhood out hunting, call me and we can meet at my house again or at Westbury HS (that's where my game is and its a block away from my house). If you're not gonna be around the area, we'll find a place to meet in the middle, maybe the Flea Market?? Anybody else down?

Vikes - Yeah, Voyager has the C/M Iverson's. Thanks for the reminder though, might have to pick one of those up. But the O/M version is so much cooler though. Argh! I'm too cheap to spend over $15 for a fig. :D

My god, I can't believe some of ya'll are getting 3 cases of each NFL series. Buncha high rollers up in here!

VikesGuy
05-02-2003, 06:55 AM
Man, I thought I was doing good to pre-order 1 case of NFL 7....6 cases guys??? Maybe when I start working again I can be a high roller too!
Matt, I'll see what I can do on the Cowboys Emmitt...I might have to keep one for myself if I come across one to represent the one from NFL1 that I am not going to pay 75 bucks for.

Just FYI, here is my current "for trade" list:
Yellow Kobe 3
White Howard
Reg Favre
Reg Owens
Reg Gonzo
Reg Berkman x2
Red Wings 3-Pack x2
Oh, almost forgot...still have a Blue Franchise that I might be able to part with, but I'd be lookin for NFL figs you guys don't have, so I don't know, but I'll listen to any of you.
Yeah, I know it's a short list, I'm workin on it!

Well you aren't the only ones that have it bad. I was planning on getting about 3 cases of NHL5 myself. However I don't know if I can now since I have to get them through the store. Hopefully Dave at Legacy Collectibles will still be able to get them though ;)

Dane-Sounds good man! I'll have to be sure and keep current with all my hookups so I can get those NFL6 variants when it hits. As for the 3-pack, where did you get it? I popped into another GS by me and they had 2 there as well. I was gonna get them both but one was slit on the top from when they cut the box open  So I just took one of them. That now puts me at 3 packs but I can always use more. Hold onto those for me if you can because I'm sure I'll be able to get you some FB variants.

As for your list. I saw some figs on there I could use also. You looking to get the same in trade for them or something else?

Matt- Today is cool with me if it's easier with you. However if you still want to meet tomorrow that's fine to. I have a meeting at 2 so it'd have to be either before or later in the afternoon. Lmk what's up smile.gif

NME-I was at Super Target on Hwy 6 yesterday and saw those Batman figs you're talking about. I looked and they just about all of them except the BM/BG combo. I looked when I was at WM to and they didn't have any of those figs at all. I'll be sure to check again when I go to SWM later this eveing. Btw, when did you want to get the Spawn from me? Also let's just go ahead and do the Salo for it, cool? ;)

Shao-I'm not sure if Voyager still has those AI's. last time I was there all they had was NHL4. I just called them yesterday to check on my order and Mike told me all they had was NHL4 still and had just gotten in MLB4. No mention of any NBA. You still may want to check though. It could be that he didn't say anything because I didn't really inquire about it.

Kevin-Don't worry about lack of "ammo" bro. Most of us are in the same boat as you. Just come out to slam a few brews with the guys and "talk about toys"...haha. It'll be a good time for all.
==================================================
As for Two Rows(in the Village), that's a great suggestion! I totally forgot about that place. It's got plenty of space, plenty of parking, is still a sports atmosphere,(for us dads in the group) suitable to bring the kiddies and lastly, we won't have to yell to hear each other speak. What do the rest of you girls think about that place? If everyone agrees let's set up a date(after 5/10)and a time. Once that gets done we'll handle the other details I missed last time

P.S.-If any of you dads plan on bringing your kids, I think it'd be a good idea if we let each other know in advance. That way those of that want to can bring ours and they can all keep each other company. Besides I'm sure the wives wouldn't mind the break. Having two myself I know mine wouldn't. If you all like the idea lmk and I'll bring Andy(3 yrs) and leave the baby at home :D

Breaking News....VG strikes again!

Acting on a simple hunch, drove to one of my TRU's this morning , and popped in there at 9:30....glimpsed over the Sp's, nothing changed since I was there last week...walked over to the Batman crap trying to find this BM/BG thing for Eddie so I can break into that vault....found all of them BUT that one, just like you Steve...then a young lady walks over to ask if I'm finding everything ok...we launch into the Batman talk, then asked her if they had any Sports figures in the back that weren't out...."Well we just got a truck in, let me check".....comes out with a case, NBA3, it's fresh, it's taped. Cuts it open, and says "There ya go, let me know when you're finished" <muhahahah muahahahah> I just love those kind of employees!....Anyway, first one to catch my eye was the Blue Sprewell *snag*, then I went ahead and pulled the reg Gasol *snag*...all the rest were regs, no Jonez. So, now I have more to add to my available list....I think I should have enough bait, SOMEONE out there in BST land has an Emmitt for me for some of these, so I'm going there with them, wish me luck. Steve, are we making a deal? Wings pack for a variant CARR?

*Updated trade list*
Yellow Kobe 3
White Howard
Blue Sprewell
Blue Franchise
Reg Gasol
Reg Favre
Reg Owens
Reg Gonzo
Reg Berkman x3
Reg Ichiro 1
Red Wings 3-Pack x2

PS....Two Rows sounds like it would work. I will be leaving my chilluns at the hizzouse. (credit to Shaotime).

Uh oh, lookout...Dane's on FIYA!!! Why don't you spread some of that luck my way bro ;) Like Dane I to acted upon a hunch today guys. On my way to see my wife at work(she works at WM) I stopped in a GS that's along the way. First thing I notice once I open the door, a Wings 3-pack...NICE! I asked the guy if they got any other SP's. He said this was it and they had actually just got it in the day before. So without hesitation I picked it up and was on my way. That now puts me at 4 packs and still searching :D

Dane-As for our deal, sounds good to me. I've already got a "contract" so to speak with another board member with NFL so he's first. However once the line breaks I'm sure I'll be able to score a few of the variants so have no worries ;)
---------------------------------------------------
Question, and this goes for you to Matt, if I can get these Carr's(regs & variants) auto'd by David himself would that sweeten the trade any? One of my best friends is friends with Carr and goes over there every once in a while. He told me David told him if he needs anything signed just to let him know and he'll take care of it ;)
---------------------------------------------------
Now as for your other figs Dane, what would it take to pry those from your hands my friend?

Also I was wondering, are NFL5 and Martin regs tradeable? I found a store that has some but was debating on whether to pick them or not. What do you guys think?

VikesGuy
05-02-2003, 07:34 PM
Steve, how sure are you about this Carr signature thing? I mean, if you are pretty certain about it, SURE we can sweeten the deal. I'd be tempted to get something other than an SP signed though....you know like a football or jersey.
Nevertheless, what do you see on my list in exchange for a SIGNED Carr SP? IF it can't get signed, wer'e good for the Wings pack for a Carr variant anyway correct?

sportsfigsdotcom
05-02-2003, 09:07 PM
Dane-Of course, IF I can't get the sig for some reason we're still on for the Carr/3-pack trade smile.gif Now to answer your question about getting the sig. I don't forsee any problems. Once I get a hold of my buddy and let him know all I have to do is give him whatever I want to get inked and WALLA!

As for what I saw on your list. Pretty much the whole thing except for a few of the figs tongue.gif What I'm really interested in though are the Kobe, Franchise, Howard and Spree. Would you take anything else for those besides the Carr fig?

VikesGuy
05-02-2003, 09:46 PM
Steve-o:
My NFL reg set lacks only the following:
Smith, Warner, Urlacher, Tomlinson

Those are what I am trying to muster up "trade bait" for. I know I will have to flat out buy an Urlacher, I learned that a while back.

Steve: Umm.. we can swap figs sometime next week. I think I work on Tuesday and thursday night and I'm pretty much just off. Saturday my friend is coming back in town so we're going to go act dumb at astroworld and have fun.

Drat, elusive BM/BG combo evades us all.

Another meet option I can think of is the Doghouse Tavern in Midtown. I've watched a few NBA playoff games there since it's usually dead, even on weekends. Not terribly loud, they have a jukebox playing all the time but you can still hear people fine.

A plus is they have a Louisiana beer called Abita Turbo Dog, one of the finest brews known to man, IMHO :D .

I don't want to undercut you or Eddie in a trade, but I decided not to go after NFL1 and 2 Regs in packages. I nabbed this Purple Moss at a Gamestop for $11.99, so it is no big deal. If it'll make you feel better, I'll give you the Purple Moss, and you get me another MLB5 variant (a la the Grey Trevor Hoffman you found last time)? How does that sound? Eddie-Nice vault. Two questions for you. What time did you say you work tomorrow and do you have any dogs? Btw, is that my Salo I see sitting on the bottom there? smile.gif

Tim/Shao Time-Hooters is definitely another great suggestion. I'd definitely be down to do a meet there. Although the location would have to be more centered for everyone. Like Dane said, Eddie, Shao Time and myself are all on the sw side(ST and myself are closer to Sugarland)so the Woodlands would be a nice little drive for us. If I had to pick I'd vote for either the Kirby/59 or Westheimer/Gessner locations :D

ST-I've never heard of that bar you metioned but if it's in midtown I'd drive there as well. I think it's safe to say that the downtown/Mid-Town area is pretty much the half way point for the majority of us. One question though, is it kiddie friendly? Just asking because some of us may have to bring them along smile.gif
===================================================
Okay, what do you guys think of doing this on the 17 or 18th of this month? If that's good for you all I vote for sticking with the 6pm time we had before. Let's get a consensus on this first then we'll move on :D

Is anyone planning on going to the Hwy6 Flea Market tomorrow? I wanted to go today but got caught up in some other things...even printed out my Trade List so I could show Val. Anyhow if you are give me a call on the cell and maybe we can meet up. I've got to hook up with some of the board guys to make some swaps so I'm not sure what time I'm going. Just know that I am :D

I don't collect much of them but I noticed he had a bunch of Salo's

Steve -- The Doghouse Tavern probably isn't very kid-friendly since it's more of a pub atmosphere so I guess that's out. The Two Rows dining area sounds like more of a plan I think.

Steve: Yep that's yer salo sittin' there. I'm off Sunday and I have dogs. Where you coming over to my place?

Vikes: Yeah I'm still up for trading my moss to ya. Nothing on the list that catches my eye though, but I'll let you have it for future trades that may come about.

I've been hitting him up there almost every weekend for the last 3 months, checking back to see if he ever picked up a handful of figs I still need, including Warner....last weekend was the 1st one in a while I didn't go. He continues..."Yeah, he got a bunch of stuff, a blue Francis, a...." (memory bank, Spawn board)...I said "Did he trade you a case of NBA3 and a backboard for them?" "Yep"....

I was supposed to meet up with Matt today to but that was a no go either. No biggie though, I know the figs aren't going anywhere so we can meet up whenever is good for you all :D

So I hit the FM today about 2:15 or so. I see my white Modano still sitting there so I made a trade for it...WOOHOO!! Val's picked up quite a bit of NBA since I was there last so now I'm trying to get a deal together for a few of those variants but especially the white Nowitzki. Anyone else get a chance to go out there today? If so did you get anything? smile.gif
===================================================
So any more suggestions on the meet this month guys? If so, speak now or forever hold your peace  If not however, here's what I've come up with so far...

Date: May 18th
Place: Two Rows or Hooter's(TBA-if it's Hooters we'll have to vote on the location))
Time: 6pm

What do you all think of that so far? Please everyone chime in here because I want it to be as fair for everyone as possible. Now as for where to meet, how to recognize each other, etc, that can be taken care of once the day gets a little closer. If anyone has any ideas in the mean time though please toss them in. Remember this is a democracy here tongue.gif smile.gif

 Dude! The only thing I have that is autographed by Carr is a poster with his, Caper's, Casserly's, Mike Quinn's Aaron Glenn's and Steve McKinney's signatures on it, which I paid 60 bucks for at a Card Shop's auction. That bad boy is staying in da house. Uhhh, I guess I'll find one elsewhere...thanks anyway.

Dane,
I am not looking for your Texans stuff. I was reading some thread ago with you and Steve about getting Carr's autograph. I just wanted to know if I could bring you my football or jersey when you were getting your's signed. I apologize for not clearly telling you what I needed. I would bring you my Warner at the Meet and if you get your hands on either a lewis or sapp reg WE could discuss fig and $$$. LMK...Thanks RF :(

Guys,

In my trade with Val...i p/u a Kuame Var, Kidd Var looking to trade.Ha! That White Kidd was the one I traded him for the White Bettis! Funny how our figures make the rounds.

Dane: I, more than anyone here, would love to see the orange shorts crammed way up . . . (well, you know where) and the tight cut-off shirts with no brazierre, but alas, I think Two Rows would be a better MEETING place. Now, I am a Christian man, but I do enjoy some good scenery and some of God's more finer work on occasion, and should Hooters ba a place that more of you want to go, then I might be able to be persuaded.

Steve: Sorry about this weekend man. I played 3 baseball games, and like Eddie, I was (still am actually) just too sore to get out. We will hook up though. Will just have to keep trying. BTW, did you ever get that Super Bowl set? LMK when you do so we can work out our trade. I might buy you a case of NHL5 (since I can't look for variants for you out of that set), or we'll work something out.

My Black Vick should be arriving in the mail this week sometime. When I get this last piece, I will post pics of my collection for all you guys to see. If anyone wants to start a "Houston Boardmember's Pic Thread" and post their pics there, feel free. We could all post our collections on that thread and post a link here. I know Steve was gonna do this, any closer Steve? If not, I'll start it out when I get the Vick. Late---

Roy,
Since your email inquiring about the Carr autograph's came right after mine about what you needed for the Warner in trade, I naturally put the two together. As far as getting Carr's auto, you probably need to talk w/ Steve about that, because he is the one w/ the connection...
I am sure you picked up the Warner because you need him for your collection, so if you do, that is cool. smile.gif IF you are willing to trade him for a Sapp, I might be able to do that, let me check and get back w/you...I can probably get my hands on a Warner easier (and cheaper) than a Lewis, so I don't think I would be able to trade a Lewis for him....Warner's have been going for 15-25 bucks on Ebay.
It's all good Roy....that's half the fun, wheelin and dealin!!! Later... ;)

If you didn't know, the pencil icon allows you to edit your posts. In some circles/message boards, posting several times in a row is considered bad netiquette since it creates bandwidth problems. Just an FYI :D .

If anyone is looking for the Red Wings 3-packs, the Katy Mills EB has like 10 of 'em. So plenty for everyone.

I posted pics of my collection. Check them out and post your pics. Go here:

Official Houston Pic Thread (http://board.spawn.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=044803#000001)

I had to seriously downgrade my pics, so as to get them hosted on a free image hosting site, and to post them here on the board. So some of the pics appear fuzzy, but oh well, you'll get the idea.

Sometimes people will quote a post from someone if they are making reference to what they said in their post, espescially if there are several other posts in between that may or may not be covering the same topic. It's not unusual in alot of the threads on this board...and on this page, there are other boardmembers who have utilized this feature as well. That's all. I'm confused... <-----me

I hadn't really thought about that part. I know you're good for it so I'm not worried. I do like your suggestion about the NHL5 however so that may be an option. Let's see what they're gonna go for first then we can take it from there smile.gif

Roy-I'm not sure how Carr is about signing multiple autos. I am asking a pretty big favor of my friend so I really don't want to send him in there with a ton of stuff, know what I mean? However if he says David is willing then it's all good. Let me ask and I'll post my findings here.

Dane-Are you looking for loose or MOC NFL figs? Just asking because I may be able to work some magic and get a few figs ;)

I found a random baseball SP in my closet. It's a red's griffey. I'm off today so I am not doing jack! Well I'll have to swing by work and pick up some notes I forgot there. May swing by the GS there and see if they got anything. Most likely variants will be gone.

Two Rows is an establishment located in the Rice Village on the second floor of the village arcade. It is separated into 3 areas: a dining area/restaurant, a bar and an outdoor patio area. All sections have TV's so sports is on like Donkey Kong. The food is pretty decent but a tad on the pricey side. They also brew their own beers.

I'm voting Two Rows for now unless someone comes up with a more attractive option. I think if we were to go to Hooter's, I'd pay more attention to the waitstaff than you guys, haw haw. Which is how it should be! :D

===================================================
Okay girls, listen up. I've listened to your input about the meet and here's what I've come up with. If it sounds alright with everyone we'll stick with it. If not, speak up and we can tweak it as needed.

PLACE: Two Rows restaurant/bar(in the Rice Village)
DATE: May 18, 2003
TIME: 6:30pm

Now I'll need a head count on who's coming in case I decide to get a table. Just post here or email me to lmk(whosaidno@netscape.net). If you say you're coming please do your best to do so. Last thing we all want is to wait around for someone that isn't gonna show.

As to how to recognize where we're at I'll have an SP sitting out on the table. Most likely it'll be a NBA or NHL reg of some sort. So when you see it you'll know you've found us :D If I've missed anything please make it known so I can adjust accordingly.

Also, about the trading. I think it'd be a good idea to confirm all trades on the board beforehand. That'll save us the hassle of packing and lugging all those figs around for no reason. I will however bring a print-out of my available figs in case I strike up a deal at the restaurant. That being said does anyone need anything from me? graemlins/spawnorb.gif

Matt-My youngest is having his 1st b-day that day. If for some reason I can't be there on time would you mind being there with SP in hand? The party is at 12 so I should be there w/o a problem. However us asians never like to do anything on time(right Tai) so there's a very slight chance I may be a tad late. I'll call and lyk if I need you to do so. I don't forsee it happening though

Lastly, if it makes you all more comfortable. Feel free to email me and get my cell number. It may come in handy for those of you not familiar with the area ;)

As far as the meet, I will be there for sure , everything sounds fine to me. 2 rows, 18th.

Ben, never heard of them. Some of these younger whipper snappers on the board might have thoughts about the band you're asking about!

Lost a few things, found a few things, so here's my most current "trade" list...

NBA: -Blue Sprewell
-White Howard
-Reg Kobe 3
-Blue Franchise* *=bought from Val, paid
more than "market" price for as a
goodwill gesture for his willingness
to do trades. May trade, but I didn't
find this one for 10 bucks at TRU!

NFL: -Reg Owens
-Reg Favre
-Reg Gonzo
-Reg Brunell
-Reg A-Train (x2)

MLB: -Reg Berkman (x4)
-Reg A-Rod

NHL: -Wings 3-Pack (x2)
-Black Iginla

Anybody find any Matrix figs yet? I didn't look today, but I think I will tomorrow. LMK if you find them somewhere and where at. Thinking about heading out to the Flea Market tomorrow. Anybody game?

Little bumpage to get this bad boy to the top. BTW-I am pretty freakin excited about The Matrix Reloaded (if you couldn't tell)!!! Can't wait until this Thursday the 15th.

But I don't know their system is wierd and sometimes they do get things earlier than they expect, but on toys and such most times they don't.

Matt-I'm planning on heading out to the FM tomorrow, not sure what time though. If you want give me a call and maybe we can meet up and take care of our swap early.

Dane-I'm also thinking about heading out to that comic store tomorrow to pick up some figs. Same goes for you, if you want give me a call and we can go out there together. That way you'll know where it's at if you ever want to go by yourself.

So the wife and I went to see X2 last night...great flick! Better than the first one in my opinion. Anyone else seen it yet? The only complaint I have about it is I wish Colosseus had a bigger part.

As for Matrix Reloaded, I'm with you Matt. I can't wait for it to hit the screens. Looks to be another awesome movie and I'm sure will be better than the first graemlins/spawnorb.gif

Went to The Market and traded Val a Red Berkman, White Pierce, and Grey Pedro for a White Nowitzki, and 6 Troy Aikman SLUs I didn't have. All in all, a good day for me. Especially since the Cubs evened the series against the hated Cardinals yesterday and the Mavs beat the Queens last night.

Need my Cubbies to take game 3 today to retain 1st place, and the Mavs to punk the Queens to go up 3-1!!! Big sports day gentlemen. I know my wife loves it ;) . Remember to call your Moms and wish her Happy Mother's Day also!

Remember, if you see the Matrix 1 figs, let us who are interested (Eddie and I) know where to find them! Also, if you have any Cubs or Cowboys SLUs (especially 1988-1990), post what you have or e-mail me what you got, so I can try and trade you at the Meet!

Matt, I must have just missed you! I actually went by his booth at noon, it was still locked up, so I mosied over to another guys booth that has a bunch of sportscards, and spent about 30 minutes over there before going back to Val's...saw those figs you traded in, he already had slapped a 30 dollar tag on your Berkman! Did you pick up the rookie Aikman SLU he had? I went ahead and picked up that James Jackson he's had forever, traded in an A-Train that I got for 1/2 price at a Game Stop. No new NFL there other than a Blue Manning.

Anyhow is everyone ready for the meet this weekend? I know I am. It should be a good time for all. Can I please get a head count on whose going so I have some idea of how many to expect? Right now I've got Dane, myself, Matt, Eddie and Tai. Who else am I missing here?

Also does anyone need anything from me? Please lmk by Sat so I can set it out that night. If not, I'll forget about it

Lastly, I know I've already asked Matt this so this is for the rest of you Houston guys(especially the ones that pay the house bills...lol). I'm not going to get deep into this. Just plmk if this would interest you or not? If it does, I'll go over Sunday with you. If I could save you some money on your utlity bills with the same or better quality service with no cost or obligation to you ever would you do it? Hopefully some of you say yes to this because I could really use your help on this one guys graemlins/spawnorb.gif

Picked up a complete set of the Matrix figs yesterday at my GS. I believe Steve was trying to call me too, but I was in the theatre watching The Matrix Reloaded when he called :D !

The figs are sweet, and i find myself thinking that the Morpheus figure is indeed the coolest one. The Chateau Box Set is supposed to come out on June 2/3. I cannot wait until Martix Series 2 now, not to mention Revolutions.

I've got to say, if anything other than The Matrix Reloaded, Revolutions, or Lord of the Rings: Return of the King wins Emmy's, I will lose all respect for the Oscars (not that I have already I guess). I know the other 2 movies I mentioned aren't out yet, but you know they'll rock too!!

I gotsta give mad props to Steve for giving me the heads up regarding The Matrix figs hitting GS's today. All the figs at the 1st Colony store were reserved so I headed out to the Mo City location.

I picked up the Trinity and Morpheus figs there. They had maybe 4-5 Neo's, 2 Trinity's, 1 Morpheus and at least 1 of each Twin. No Neo Chateau box set -- so still looking for that one. Hopefully my comic store will get 'em in.

Lemme tell ya, the figs are absolutely beautiful. McFarlane does it again. Liked the Morpheus fig a lot better in person. And now that I've seen pics of an opened Neo on the Toy Board, I am now debating on whether or not to get him. I just don't want to end up with 2 Neo's since I'm looking to pick up the Chateau set.

Once again, appreciate the 411, Steve!

Guys-
I have sent an e-mail to Mark concerning the "Duke". This guy has posted twice here now. The first obviously just a flame, but the second is totally uncalled for. Below is the e-mail.

"Mark:
I am writing to you to ask of you a favor. I am a Houston, TX Spawn.com boardmember, and there are a lot of us. We have a good little trading and collecting community out this way, and one of the ways we facilitate ideas or information is through an "Official Houston, TX Thread". There has been a boardmember who has posted twice now on our thread. The first post was obviously just a flame, but his second is un-called for. I ask that you at least identify this board member and send him a warning. If no action is taken, then the next time he does this (and more than likely there will be if he is not reprimanded), there will be no grounds for banning such a person. In no way am I trying to tell you how to do your job, just a plea for your help, before this thing turns uglier than it already is. Please help our little Houston McFarlane community out and rid us of this guy. Hopefully a warning will suffice for him, but a precedent needs to be established if he is to continue his actions.

Below is a link to our thread:

http://board.spawn.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=017177;p=19

The boardmember in question is "Duke of Deep Fried". He has two posts on Page 19 of our thread. One post reads "texasucks" and the other, more juvenile post of "bush sucks ****." Please keep me abreast of the situation and any action you have taken. I appreciate your work and sorry for having to call upon your "policing" duties so early in the game for you. Thanks in advance!

Matt *******
"gravy028"

I ask that no one here responds anymore to the "Duke". He is obviously a moron who doesn't understand the meaning of class. Class is something that exudes itself always, whether you're nameless/faceless on the internet or not. The person obviously has no character except for a bad one, so let's ignore him until Mark hopefully takes action.

PS-This is not meant to be a political thing either. Many of you may know I have heated debates on this board concerning politics. My actions have nothing to do with his attack on our president, but instead of the irresponsible posting of anyone "sucking ****". Just FYI and I hope you all feel the same way. See you guys at the Meet tonight!

Sorry about missing the meet, but I believe my reason is pretty valid :D . My friends took me out last night to celebrate my college graduation and I drank WAY TOO MUCH. Mixing liquor and beer is never smart.

I ended up passing out at my friend's place and woke up still feeling the alcohol in my system. So I spent the entire day sleeping it off. I am quite certain that if I had come anywhere near a bar, blowing chunks would've been imminent. And you wouldn't want me ruining your SP's, now would you? tongue.gif

Well after reading about the Dallas guys finding MLB 5 I decided to check around a little today. I hit TRU and WM with no luck. That being the case I say it'll be here within the week.

The way it's been in the past is that Houston usually gets shipments a few ays after Dallas does so I don't see it changing for MLB 5 ;)

After a looong day that included drinking beers and taking in an Astros game at Minute Maid Park -- great fun even though we lost -- passed on going out to drink some more and instead stopped by WM on my way home. Sure enough, 5 cases of MLB 5 sitting on a palette.

Had limited funds so I picked up Soriano, Tejada, and 2 Bonds variants. Called Steve @ 12:30AM :D to let him know about MLB 5 hitting and held the last Bonds variant for him. We then proceeded to hit another WM down the freeway where he picked up 2 more Bonds variants and a Tejada.

I have now seen 2 Jeter's and 1 Giambi to each case so if they are indeed variants, they're quite plentiful. However, 9 cases and no Jason Kendall  . And only 3 Tejada's.

The Soriano and Tejada figs look pretty cool together.

Well you all have heard by now, MLB 5 has hit Houston via WM. Tai was kind enough to give me a wake up call last night and inform me of this tongue.gif You all read on his earlier post what we ended up getting, not to bad of a haul I'd say.

From the looks of it the Jeter and Giambi won't be difficult to find at all(2 Jeter & 1 Giambi/case). Kendall and the Tejada on the other hand appear to be a different story....9 cases and NO Kendalls and only 3 Tejadas. So if you see any of these it might be wise to pick them up ;)

FYI, I'm not sure if you all know this but I found out last night that the green Tejada is a WM exclusive. That probably explains why there were only 3 to be found.

Matt-I've got you covered on the Tejada and variant Bonds bro. One variant down and only 8 to go :D

Dane-I didn't get a chance to swing by that card show, sorry. However it's going on again next weekend so that'll be another chance to grab that Bags(or was it Biggio?) RC ;)

Steve,
Bagwell. Thanks in advance if you find one. Are you going with the family? If not, I was thinking about maybe trying to hook up with you and tagging along because it's been awhile since I've been to one. Got a date with the wife on Saturday late afternoon/night, (going to a ballet  , but will score major brownie points for it...)so it depends on what time, etc...let me know.

gravy028
05-27-2003, 07:26 AM
Ballet Dane? Wow. You already have 3 kids, you don't want to risk a 4th by going to ballet with the wife do you ;) ??

I'm glad none of you guys like MLB like I do, cause while you're out finding all that good stuff, I've yet to find squat at my usual hook-ups.

Thanks Steve for getting me covered on those two figs. Like Steve said, I still need 8 more variants though. And so the hunt and game continues . . . . .

Has anybody found MLB5 on the northside? I looked yesterday and found nothing. Also, my Ken Griffey broke (Figures imitating real life huh?)and I'm searching for a new one, anybody spotted one, lately?

Well I had to hit the WM by my house to get some milk for the kiddies. I get there and head straight to the toy section to maybe pick up some mlb 5 I left behind the other night. I get there and instantly my jaw drops! No, not because I had just scored a major find but because out of those 5 cases that were there Sunday only 1 freakin Pat Burrell remains..***?! Is MLB 5 gonna be this hard to find once the TRU's and GS's get it?

Dane-I talked to my friend today and there isn't going to be a show this weekend(good thing I called). There is however going to be a show in two weeks, Tri-Star at the GRB downtown. I'm going probably on Saturday(going the Stros game on Sunday). That'll be the place to score that Bags RC you're wanting. If you want to check it out call me and we can meet up somewhere and go together smile.gif

The same goes for the rest of you girls. If you all want to check out the show let's set something up where we can all meet and go together. Either that or we can just meet up at the GRB smile.gif

I'm going to get some deals on some cards. There will be SP's and SLU's there as well though, there were quite a few at the last show. My friend that I deal with, Dave @ Legacy Collectibles will be set up there also so you may be able to find some figs you need at his booth :D

Sweet, thanks mtd! Sounds like Steve is trying to set up another meet. The original Swap Meet idea about 1 year ago was for everyone to meet at a certain time at the Tri-Star Convention at the GRB. I say we try and strike this up again.

Who all can come out to the GRB for Tri-Star? Post if you're game and what day is best for you. Steve, I can say right now that I have a baseball game that Saturday, but I do not know what time yet. Saturday is probably best though, and it will just have to be later for me.

Steve: Did Legacy get his MLB in yet? Wonder if I can pick my case up at the GRB from him (or you) and pay you there? LMK!

What's up all? I've stopped at 3 of my Wally's over here on the west side between yesterday and today, and have found only 1 single MLB5 figure (Burrell) between the three....looks like only one of them got them in (or stocked them anyway).
Tried to fulfill an SP "fantasy" this weekend of finding old NFL at some podunk WalMart or something...stopped at the one in Giddings on my way back from Austin, no dice, no SP's at all :( , so don't bother if you ever take 290 toward Austin.

As far as the GRB show, I saw the ad for it in this morning's sports section, and wondered if you knew it was going on Steve....figured you did. It's hours are Friday the 6th 12-8, Sat 10-5, and Sun 10-5. According to the ad, Jerry Rice will be there. I definitely am going to plan on going, but I'm starting a new job :D this Monday, and really have no idea what my schedule is going to be like on that weekend at this point, and won't know until Monday.
Also, read in Tuff Stuff that McFarlane will be doing a Bagwell in his famous batting stance sometime down the line, that should be pretty cool. More Stro's, less Cubs, right Matt? ;)

I think I work next weekend, and i really wanted to go to get my niners rice auto'ed, but the 125 is a little much. Oh well. On another note, summer has been pretty damn boring, just waiting on the new nfl series now, that should restock the vault pretty well. Right now all I have is like an ichiro reg and a reg griffey and a bunch of spawn reborn. Went to target yesterday and found all the batman double packs, EXCEPT for BM/BG!!! I wonder which I will get first, clean blue emmitt or BM/BG?

Kevin</font>[/QUOTE]Kevin-I was gonna stop in there again this morning but didn't. Glad you got them instead of a scalper ;) As for the Tejadas, those are resting peacefully on my shelf now as are the two grey Bonds. Out of the four cases there were only two TJ's, not one Kendall, 2-3 white Bonds per, 1 Giambi and 2 Jeter per and 2 grey Bonds. As for the rest of the case I don't remember the breakdown.

I wish I had looked at the Hunters more closely though. For all I know Tai and I could've over looked the variants because it's such a subtle change compared to the reg :(

Kevin-On the Tejada, it's an error. As for the Hunter, it's the variant. Be sure to check any Kendall's you come across to. I'm hearing the grey variant isn't all that big of a change from the reg white one.

Matt-I just talked to Dave and he still hasn't received his cases yet. He said if he gets them within the next day or two he'll call me and we can meet up somewhere. That being the case do you just want to go ahead and meet so you can give me the money? That way if he does get them I'll have the cash in hand. hey kevin...the hunter variant...has twins accross his chest as opposed to minnesota..his pants are white with pin stripes...and the wall on the back has numbers on it...either it is the 400 ft marker..or his jersey #..(i presume the 400ft marker) but not sure...the regular has no #'s on the wall...i have one and am staring at it right now...so i can give you the description...hope this helped you out...oh by the way...do you have texans02's e-mail since you said he had a kwame..all i need to complete my NBA variants is the white/kwame brown....my NBA series 3 just got completed..(with both versions of the kobe variant)..to go along with my complete NBA series 1 (with both iverson versions)...down to the kwame to complete all three sets...lmk

Well, I'm glad to see some of you finding stuff...myself, I did some hunting yesterday and today and haven't found a freakin thing. Visited about 7 WalMarts between the 2 days, saw a whopping total of ONE MLB5 fig (Burrell). Other than that , same ol same ol. The Wally by me has about 11 Ichiro's, 6 Walkers, 5 Allens, 4 Morris's, a couple of Stocktons, and the traditional smattering of Shanahan, T-Bo, etc.
Found a new GS that I wasn't aware of...halfway between 610 and 8 on Bellaire...that is one nasty-ass store! It reeks badly, and it is the most poorly merchandised GS I've ever seen. They do have all their SP's with 50% off stickers however....nothing great though...they have a reg Hinske there that will run ya 5 bucks if anyone wants him.

Howdy all...
Let's discuss the Tri-Star show. In today's Chronicle (Fri), there is an ad which gives the breakdown on which athletes will be signing on which days and times. Also, I looked at the Tri-Star website, and didn't see a listing of how much each athlete's auto's cost...Eddie mentioned 125 bucks for Rice...is that true? Where do you find that info? Also, today's ad shows you who is signing for free...and Terence Newman is one of them, Saturday at 3:15 (MATT)
Still don't know when I'll be going due to starting new job Monday. Whoever is going and knows when they're going, let's try to post it here, so maybe we can try to get together.

Dane:
What is your new job? If you don't mind sharing over the board, I'd like to know. We talked about your more important HUNT at the Meet and I was hoping you'd find something quickly. Is it with Lowe's? Anyway, congrats!!!

I'm not too big on autographs. I guess if it is free, I'm game. But I have nothing for Newman to sign. Besides, rookies piss me off. Newman shouldn't get any praise or pub for what he has done in college. He is with America's, Matt's, and God's Team now, and he better produce, or face the consequences. And when I say produce, I mean Super Bowl Appearance #9 along with SB Win #6! :D

It cracks me up how all those losers from the Texans are charging for their autographs. Unbelievable. You can find out prices et al on the Tri-Star website, which Steve posted on the previous page (he posted a link right to it).

I still haven't found squat. Anybody else with any luck?

Steve:
Having second thoughts on the MLB5 case. You are not locked into that are you. If so, I can come up with the money, but since it is tight right now, I may have to bypass this case. Besides, I need my money to buy you those 2 NHL5 cases for the SB Set ;) .

I'll probably head out to Tri-Star on Sunday. I have a baseball game on Saturday and the wife will probably not want to go on Friday night after work.

You're acting like the player gets all of the signing fee. Believe me, Tri-Star gets a good portion of the signing fee. I'm not familiar with the percentages, but it wouldn't surprise me (knowing Tri-Star) if they got more than the player. Couple that with the outrageous table fees ($300 and up), $10 bucks a head to get in and all of the merchandise sales they have they're doing quite well!!!

Well I just found out that I'll be working the Friday and Saturday when Tri-Star is going on. That being the case I'm definitely going on Sunday. I'll be there right at 10 when the doors open. I would go a little later but I'm going to the Stros game that day as well and have to be at Minute Maid Park right when the gates open so I can grab some bobbles for a buddy of mine. I believe it's a 1:05 start time so the gates should be open around 11ish, right? If so, that gives me about an hour to mill around and scope for any deals. Depending how's it's going I may leave there early and head back over to Tri-Star.

So if any of you guys want to go on Sunday I'm down . A sports card show in the morning and a ball game in the afternoon...talk about a perfect day! I'll be like a kid in a candy store, I can't wait! :D

Dane-I've attached a link to the autograph page for the Tri-Star show. Unless you're a really big fan of any these guys I can't see dishing out that kind of fundage for the ink. Very few players I would pay that kind of cash for.

Btw, do you need a purple R. Moss? I've got one coming that'll be in hand tomorrow. Not sure if it's clean or dirty though. I'll post my findings once it arrives smile.gif

http://www.tristarproductions.com/shows/HOU603/schedule.htm

Matt-I haven't paid up so I'm not locked into anything, yet. I just told him I wanted a case and to lmk when he got them in. I know when he gets them he'll call to tell me he's holding one for me though. So if you want to pass on it lmk so I can relay it the word. If not, just bring the money to Tri-Star and we can handle it there ;)

Eddie-What are you looking to get for that red Yzerman? Is it available or are you wanting to put that towards your Emmitt hunt? PLMK

Tai-I can't remember if we're clear on everything? Did I pay you that $20 yet or no? I've been doing so much dealing lately everything is starting to run together on me.

Kevin-Happy B-day bro! How old you gonna be? Friday is a good day to go, especially during working hours. You'll beat alot of the crowd and get to the dealers while they still have good cards,SP's,etc at their booths ;)

Merlin-I don't think I've ever seen you on the thread before  Welcome to our little "society". What part of town are you in?

Trust me, TS Productions is doing very well these days. You mentioned the $300/table costs. That's the exact reason I don't do their shows anymore...outrageous table prices!!! I remember back when they used to charge about $175 or so(fair price). It's things like this that make me mad and push little dealers such as myself away :( If I paid that much and didn't even break even I'd be so pissed. So I'm not even taking a chance anymore. I'm just gonna go relax, visit some of my friends and enjoy myself...the way it should be :D

P.S.-To make up for it I'm doing a big 3-day show in Dallas July 4th weekend. Just as big as TS but only $250/table. No, I take that back, only $125 per..I split it with a buddy of mine :D

VikesGuy
05-31-2003, 07:08 AM
Steve, thanks, but I don't need the Moss....Eddie hooked me up w/ an extra one to open at our last meet, remember? Also, just fyi, I am almost positive that all Moss figures are clean, don't think they made any dirty ones.

Kevin, have a great birthday! Sounds like Friday would be an excellent day for you to take off early from work! Maybe your wife will buy you that white Favre for your BD, any chance? :D

Hey Eddie, I don't think they actually made any of those BM/BG sets....I think it's all some sort of evil conspiracy...I've looked everywhere I go, and so far their actual existence has not been confirmed. I wonder if it's as valuable/rare as a clean blue Emmitt? Regardless, if I happen to find one, it will be yours...I'll keep looking.

Steve -- Yeah, you still owe me $20 for the 3rd Salo and Black Roenick. That should square us.

Guys, I am looking for the Trish figure from the Devil May Cry line that is supposed to be out soon. They shouldn't be too hard to find, I don't think. Here is a picture of her:

Devil May Cry figures (http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=fignews2.setup&category=actionfigures&topic=73&show_article=184)

Her picture is on the bottom. GS gave me a release date of June 11, but the website above stated that they have already shipped and should be appearing in stores any time now. Please keep on the lookout, por favor, and post where you have seen the figs.

Thanks!

ETA: I remembered that someone on the board was looking for a Chrebet a while back and didn't wanna spend too much. Nan's Comics & Games has one for $15.95.

Go get 'em for me Eddie!!!!!!!! ;) I'm completely out of luck finding stuff, so I'm relying on your magic fingers.

When do we want to do the next meet? I guess I can host the 2nd Official Houston Boardmember's Meeting at my house. Let's pick a day and set it up. Bring your own steaks and we'll grill out. I know the 4 Horsemen (ie, Eddie, Steve, Dane, and I) are game, but how about the rest of you yahoos? LMK, because if you say you are going to come, then don't show up, I will seek my Rotweiller, Hound dog, and pregnant wife on you. Especially if I clean the house and get everything set up!

Please post suggestions of Date and times. A Saturday evening would be best for me. Say around 6:30 or 7pm. I say 2nd or 3rd weekend in July.

Also, post if you want to volunteer to bring: (a) case of cokes, (b) case of beer, (c) chips, and any other stuff. Also post if you're bringing the kids and the wife/girlfriend. I need an accurate head count.

[We'll keep track of who brings what so we can rotate for next Meet. I also say Host Member doesn't have to provide anything except for his steak. Kind of a thank you for trashing his house and all ;) ]

Don't be shy here guys and freaking post your suggestions and volunteer. And I urge you guys who didn't show up last time to make the time and effort to show up now. A good time was had and makes trading and looking for figures for other members that much more fun!

Well it looks like Matt's the man for the next meet. Your place sounds good to me. I volunteer to bring a case of soda, maybe 2.

*On a side note, whoever brings the beer may I make a suggestion. I think the beer brewed in a little brewery in Shiner, TX is a good choice

Saturday evenings at 6:30 are good for me to. However I'll be out of town either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July on a family outing. I'll let you know as soon as I find out. Other than that everything is green for me :D

---------------------------
Looks like the MLB 5 hobby cases are hitting stores now. I haven't seen any yet here in town but I'm sure they'll be here in no time. Looks like the MLB collector among us *cough Matt cough* needs to start working that 2nd job or doing some OT because you're going to need that extra cash for all the variant/chase pieces you're about to get bombarded with tongue.gif ;)

Steve: My phone was dead today and had to take my little sister to the dentist in the morning.

Also, I have not come across any MLB5 cases with the giambis and schillings, but I would advise to hit up TRUs. They seem to have those cases.

:D To all my fellow northside collectors: Check the WalMart off of 45 in Spring. I got the following: Var. Bonds; Var. Gagne; Var. Giambi; Var. Jeter; Var. Tejada and Reg. Hunter.

They had 5 cases, and each had at least 3-4 Bonds; 1 Giambi; 2 Jeters; 2 Sorianos; 1 Tejada; 1 Gagne; 1 Hunter

I also saw a couple of Lowes and Burrells. NO Kendalls.

There should still be a Gagne Variant and a bunch of Giambi and Jeter variants, plus all of the regs that I mentioned. Good Luck!

LA-Nice haul! Would it be possible for you to go back and grab that Gagne variant and a Jeter/Giambi? If you can't get all three I'll take which ever you can get :D I'll take them off your hands at c+s if that's cool with you. Btw, when did you hit the WM?

Tex, I wish that I could help, but I kinda went over budget already buying 6 figures. I hit Wal-Mart at about 11:15 or so. If you live close to one go hit em up now. The Giambi and Jeter shouldn't be a problem, like I said each case that I saw had multiple Jeters and at least one Giambi. I'm thinking that the assortments for our area are basically the same. I went to another WalMart and got to look in a case (but not allowed to buy)and it looked pretty much identical. I may be able to get that Gagne for you in the morning, though.

LA-Well I live in Stafford so I don't think I'll be hitting that WM anytime soon...lol. If you can grab the Gagne that'd be great! As for the Jeter and Giambi check out this post I did the other day.

I know they never do. I was just there late friday and nothing. They are on an end cap not over by the bikes as usual. 2-3 jeters 2 giambis and 2-3 tejadas and hunters. this was early this morning. but to be honest the giambis look like **** I'm mean horrible anyone else think that too??

I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but would really like to try and trade first, it's no to often I have trade bait and there are some figs I would like to catch up on, or sell them for a little more so I could fund the Wht/Grn favre I so desperatly want :D . I had a gift card I used that I got as a early B-Day gift so I didn't spend anything on them, that is why. Give me a day or two if not, I will ;) .

Guys, stopped by a WM on my way to WORK (feels good to say that again) today and found one MLB5 fig...Torii Hunter. Pic on pkg shows white numerals on his jersey, actual figs numerals are red. Anyone know about this? Variant? Good looking figure and pose. Also, stopped by a KB after I got off, and found some old NFL: Bennett, Martin, and J. Jackson, plus a Jason Kidd just sittin on the pegs! Girl up front said they were in the back, another store was supposed to pick them up, but never did, so I did.

So after reading Kevin's post yesterday I decided to stop by that same WM this morning after dropping the kiddies off at Grandma's. Although I did stop by the Westheimer TRU first to check just in case they got something...nothing there. However at WM I made out fairly well. I picked up 3 yellow-billed Tejadas. If anyone needs one lmk asap. If not these are off to my friend in California. They still had a ton of Giambi's and Jeter's so if you need one you shouldn't have a problem.

Speaking of that, I have a question. I've asked Matt and Eddie this already so to the rest of you guys. Is the yellow bill or green bill harder to come by? Also is the yellow one considered a "variant" or error?

Kevin-Let me see if I can get some NHL for the Moss first. If not, you'll be hearing from me ;)

Dane-So how was the first day on the job? I bet it felt weird after being off for so long eh? I know it was for me. At least now you can go on SP hunting sprees again ...and yes we all know that's the real motive for getting the job ;)

Eddie-Good idea bro. For those of you that don't have it, my IM name is whosaidno. If you need to find me I'm usually on about the same time every night, 10, 11pm smile.gif

Anyone find any MLB 5 variants or repaints yet(other than Jeter or Giambi) lately? I hit the GS and WM on Westheimer/Kirkwood and neither place had anything. I did ask the guy at GS about the Matrix Box Set and he said they would be shipping this Friday. So for those of us that need them there was your heads up. Also if you want to reserve one all it takes is $5 ;)

Now,as for Tri-Star this weekend. I just found out today that I may NOT have to work Fri or Sat. If that's the case then I might change what day I hit the show. However if everyone is still cool with going first thing Sunday then so be it. Before I write that in stone though I'd like to get everyone's input. What day is best for you all? Oh yea one other thing, if the day happens to fall on Saturday I'd still like to be there right at 10 when the doors open :D

How does that Ice Cube song go...today was a good day? Well it definitely was for me. After doing the daily ritual of dropping the boys off at grandma's I hit the TRU again to see if they had recieved their MLB 5 yet. Still a no show.

I did however find me a white Lewis and red Owens sitting right in front waiting for me  My heart just about dropped when I saw that Lewis sitting there, even more so when I looked down and saw the Owens. I asked if they had any more in the back and the guy told me that they had just put out evertything they had. Probably the reason for the Carter that was there as well. These were the only two new fb figs so I'm assuming a TRU employee hid them for themselves and forgot about them or something. Which is good for me, snooze you lose, right?

Looks like the SP gods are starting to smile on me again :D

Nice snag Steve...better than my story a post or two back, for sure...you know there's more old stuff buried in some of these stockrooms, if only we could go back and look for ourselves!

I finally found out my work schedule today, I'm off this weekend, and I think 10 am Saturday is best for me on the GRB show. Gonna pass on the autograph sessions.

Finally found more than 1 MLB5 fig at a WM, picked up early this morning what I thought was a Jeter "variant", then I stopped by the same store on my way home and saw 4 more up in the top shelving....obviously, not a true variant as you guys surely know that have seen more of this series than me...did a search on the board when I got home and found out what was up.

I bought a full set of Matrix figs @ TRU a week or so ago, but don't think I'm going to keep them. If anyone is interested in any of these pieces before I return them, let me know.

Lastly, Kevin also found a T. hunter like I did with the red numbers on the actual figure's jersey, but white on the package...is this what everyone else has seen too? Just curious what's up with that. Later guys.

Man, I was so excited about posting my find today I totally forgot to mention anything else

It looks like Saturday @ 10am it is guys. I just found out today that I won't be working this weekend either so that's fine with me...and probably better as well. Since we all live in different areas of town I think it'd be best and easier if we just met there.

Also I think I'm going to save myself a few bucks and just buy my ticket online through their site(www.tristarproductions.com). Another way you can save some coin is to pack yourself some snacks, a soda and maybe a sandwich or two. That's what I normally do and will do for this show.
---------------------------------------------------
Eddie-I just read your post about your blue Emmitt quest. Yes, you can turn those Priority boxes inside out and just retape them. Not only does it cut down my insanely high stack of boxes but it works great. Not to mention saves time from having to go out and buy a box :D
---------------------------------------------------
Matt-I called Dave again today and still no answer. I'll try again tomorrow. If not I'll have to talk to him at the show. Regardless, I will get that answer for ya ;)
---------------------------------------------------
Dane-Sorry about the delay in getting that deregulation info to you. If I don't get a chance to email it to you before Friday I'll be sure and have it with me at the show and just hand it over then smile.gif
----------------------------------------------------
Question-I know MLB5 has just hit WM's and yet to hit the local TRU's but I was wondering. How long after the first wave does the second one one usually start rolling in? Also, is this end cap thing for MLB 5 same in all the WM's or are just some of them doing it? Hopefully it's for all of them, makes finding the figs so much easier smile.gif

Just got back from Nan's Comic Shop. Picked up 2 variants:

NBA3 White Eddie Jones
NBA3 Yellow Kobe

They are up for trade to you NBA guys. Since I did get them at Nan's, I had to pay $17 each for them, so keep that in mind. All I'm looking for is a variant or $17 to cover my Out-of-Pocket costs!

Guys: I won't be able to make the Tri-Star show. I forgot that I'd promised my wife to take her to a Horse Show on Saturday, and I have baseball practice on Saturday evening. Sorry fellas. No big loss. I don't need any more SPs except for MLB5 Grey Kendall, A's Giambi, and Phils Schilling, and I doubt that any dealers will have those this early out there. If they do, I know Steve will be giving me a call!

About the BBQ, July is turning out to be a horrible month for me in terms of being out of town and other plans. Might I be able to push my hosting the BBQ into August? Guys,

Kevin and I were at the Tri-Star today. There were not alot of seller at the GRB. There were 2 booths opposite each other that were selling Figures. They had alot of variants, prices however seemed high on most variant figures. Keving and I p/u the only 2 reg dirty e. smith's with "Smith" on the back jersey. I also noticed that my smith was missing one star on the helmet; I guess this would be an error. I have not seen this posted anywhere with this type of error. Oh yeah, Kevin picked up a Chrebet for $10.00 and I picked up an autographed bagwell bat for $75.00.....

Micheal,

I see MLB 5 cases are starting to hit TRU's around the country now. Has anyone seen any around the Houston area. If so, what part and what was the assortment like? Also the big question, has anyone scored an A's or Phillies chase yet?
---------------------------------------------------

Also for those of you that have figs/variants you want to move. I just thought of something earlier today, I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. As you all know I'm doing a big 3 day show the first weekend of July up in Dallas. I'll be selling/trading my hockey cards as well as sp's. Whoever wants, I can take whatever figs of yours with me and try to move them for you at the show. Just do me a faor and write down a list of the ones you give me so I don't forget what belongs to who. I'll be bringing quite a few with me so If you don't I can almost assure you that they'll get mixed up.

Back from the show....Steve, I missed you there.
Here's my haul: Tarkenton autographed jersey :D Tarkenton rookie card (62 Topps), autographed mini-helmet of Paul Krause,(Hall of Fame safety for the Vikes back in the day (70's) for all you youngsters), display case for the mini-helmet, and a guy sold me 6 Bagwell rookie cards for 8 bucks, which I wil eventually get mounted with an autograph my wife got from Bagwell when she used to work at Pappasitos, back in '92, right after his rookie year.
Oh, Steve, Legacy did have a booth there, 2 guys working it, I know one was named Stu...their prices were freaking ridiculous on their SP's!
50 for a w/g Favre, 55 for a reg Vick, 180 for a black Vick, 80 for a white Moss, 140 for a Saints Williams....I didn't even bother asking about the NH figs of Brunell, Culpepper, and Sapp they had....sheesh!
Eddie: What part of town do you work in? My job has me all over the city now, at some point I might be close enough we can make our exchange...lmk.

BigD, a few of us went....my buys are listed in a thread above here, and Waterside33 picked up a Bagwell auto'd bat and a Smith SP, and Packfantilldeath got a Chrebet and Smith SP.

Hey Roy, by the way, that's a pretty good deal you got on that bat smile.gif ....I was looking for one there for that price Saturday but didn't find them....

Roy, You know me I'm around but may not post.

Dane, Yea the prices were a tad on the high side. I prob would have got the Wht/Grn Favre just because it was there, but.....I have a deal pending on one, well in progress, I have already sent, and I pray to GOD, he has also. Gagne Var/Reg Tejada for Wht/Grn Favre/Reg Favre. I hope this guys comes through or it is going to put a damper on what has been a good B-Day, I did some checks and all seemed good, but if he doesn't man am I gonna Flame on him..... :D .

So both my Gagne Var have been traded, the other for a Blue Franchise I still needed.

Checked TRU I-10 and ??? forgot what cross street I was at but anyway, MLB5 was out, no chase

ANyone know when the Bonds CC exclusive is going on sale at the store, I thought I heard or read sometime in June, anyone know????

Hey guys, sorry about the dissapearing act for the past few days. I've been pretty busy since my last post and it's just now getting back to normal around here. I've finally started to get my energy back as well, which is always a good thing :D

Anyways, how was everyone's weekend? Mine was pretty good. I hit Tri-Star and a car show on Saturday(my team did well by the way)and Sunday we just relaxed and bought school stuff for Andy's first day of school :D

I did pretty well at the show, card-wise that is :D I didn't really see any SP's I wanted so I picked up some boxes and did some trading. I bought a box of 2003 Artistic Impressions and 94/95 Parkhurst(wanted that one for the J.S. Giguere RC(ducks goalie)). I also picked up the following items through cash or trade...
-3 packs of 2003 BAP Sig Series. Pulled 5 autos oncluding a P.M. Bouchard RC auto and a Selanne jersey card
-Fleer Giacomin auto redemption card for $3(BV $30)
-2 Roy Jersey cards
-Turco auto card & 2 Turco jersey cards(one is 2-color)
-Gagne SP Game Used jersey(pulled from the pack I bought)
-Sakic Jersey
-2002 Pacific Kovalchuk auto

Also, on MLB5, it looks like the Swee****er TRU is on the bottom of the totem pole again to receive them. I was there this morning and they still have the same figs hanging. Sorry for the long post guys but I had to make up for the last few days...lol

Matt-Just lmk when you want to meet up and pick up those MLB 5 variants from me. Btw, I think I may have a grey Kendall for you as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from the guy. I'll lyk as soon as I do ;)
---------------------------------------------------
Dane-Sorry I missed you. I was there but forgot graduations were going on that day so I drove around forever trying to find a parking spot. That guy you spoke of(Stu) is with Legacy Collectibles, his partner is a friend of mine, Dave. I deal with him quite a bit when it comes to SP's, both in trade and buying.

Also if you want me to take your SP's up to Dallas for you then try to get them to me at least a week before I leave please sir. I'll need time to inventory them so I know what I have with me and who they belong to ;)

***The same goes for the rest of you guys that want me to try and sell/trade your SP's up in Dallas for you...the earlier the better***
