Today was actually the first day I've had a chance to look in a while. I went by comic store this morning and they had just received their shipment of NBA 5. I thought I was definitely going to score a variant but the SP Gods had other ideas :( A full case of basketball and not 1 variant...

UPDATE: Okay guys, it's now official. I paid for my booth space this past week so I will be there every weekend starting in Jan. '04 and Feb. Depending on how those two months go will decide if I will be their longer smile.gif

The building is called the Stafford Marketplace and is located on 455 Murphy Rd @ Ave E. I will be there Saturdays from 11-6 and Sundays from 12/1-5. For those of you not familiar with the area here are the directions.

-Take 59S and exit West Belfort/Murphy Rd. The 2nd light will be Murphy Rd, take a left.

-Go down a ways(about 4 lights I think)until you cross the RR tracks(that light will be Hwy 90 aka Main St.)

-The next light after that will be Ave E(there's a Chinese Buffet on the corner). The Marketplace is located in the same parking lot behind it. It's a huge building so you can't miss it.

If any of you have any questions my email and number are located on the site under the FAQ's.

Hey all! Thanks for the warm welcome guys!! I really appreciate it...I'm located on the west side of town...I collect various stuff...pretty much whatever catches my eye...in addition to SP's (basketball and football mostly), I'm mainly into Batman and Masters of the Universe...I just discovered this board recently and it's really cool...I'll do my best to help out when I can...I really don't collect the variants unless that player is in a jersey color that I would want...so when I see them I'll pick them up for others...

By the way, who is going to the nfl experience? Is that where we are able to purchase the george and carr exclusives? As you can tell, I'm in the dark about these things.... smile.gif

Guys, check this out....I go into my local Wally before work today, and just see a bunch of crap, you know, the Larry Walker's, the Buck's Ray Allens, Ichiro and his 7 twin brothers, you get the picture....well, I stop in on my way home at about 11:30 pm to see if I can get my paws on a case (no such luck). But, there in all the rubble of a Saturday's worth of carnage were 3 Steve Francis Figures and 1 Lance Berkman figure...then, hanging very neatly on a peg about 15 feet from the rest of the SP's were 4 NFL 6 Emmitt Smith regs, all together on one peg....freaking weird!!! Wonder where all that came from?

I have a story somewhat similar to that at a WalMart around my area. I have been checking there forever. they never got any NFL 6 or 7 in. They finally got NBA 5 in, and I was able to pick up a White Nash figure. Then like a week later, they have a grey Kendall, Marlines Pudge and two hockey variants sittin on the pegs from outta nowhere. then one night later they have 3 whole grocery carts full of NFL 7 fiugures that had just been opened and dumped in there. Then the next night they had a Kwame Brown chase figure from outta nowhere once again.....

Are they just finding this stuff in back?? I can't imagine someone would want to take this stuff back to the store, so I don;t think it's returns. They are pretty good figures...not just the ol usual crap.

In the "Garden" section of the store, you'll find pallets of toys. These are toys that are being unloaded from the remaining trailers of Christmas items. These will be moved into the Toy Section as fast as there is available space for them. That means today or tomorrow! I've been to 2 Wal-Mart's. THEY ARE THERE. I've seen NFL and NASCAR, and more boxes that I didn't have the chance to look at.

I have stopped looking at Wal-Mart. I don't think I can stand to look at another MLB 5 figure. So, I just try and get what I can at GAmeStop and EBGames.

VikesGuy...the Wal-Mart by us sucks, I used to check it every morning. Last time I was in there I saw 5 guys standing around for the pallets to come out. FORGET IT! It's like the hangout for toy collectors. Not going to compete over 1 case.

Alright guys, the time is getting near. Who all from here is going to the NFL Experience? If you are please post and be heard!

I was thinking since we're all friends and going to the same place anyways we could meet up somewhere and car pool to the event. That would obviously save time on parking(because I know it's going to be a headache) and I think it'd be fun if we all went together... kinda like a guys day out ;)

Now I know some of us have SUV's, including myself. That being the case I volunteer to be one of the "Drivers" since I can fit 7 in the Sequoia. I drive and the passengers pay the parking...fair? If there's more than that going I'll need one of you other SUV drivers if you don't mind.

So far that's what I have. If anyone of you have any suggestions that might better the plan please let it be known. I'm all for making this as easy as possible. We can figure out a time and place to meet as it gets closer. FYI, as most of you know it will be very crowded there so I'd like to get there at least a few hours early to hopefully beat the crowd.

Steve:Don't worry about getting me a ticket when you buy yours. Dane had an extra so I took that one.

Dane:Let me know when your next day off is and we can work out a meeting spot.

Paul:Did you find out if your buddy still has the Selanne or not?

Tai:More than likely I won't be shipping until after the New Year. Yours is local so it'll take no time to get there :D

That's the day that I have tickets for, but I just want to make sure that's day 1.

As for NBA 5 in Houston, they are everywhere. I have seen them at GameStop, plenty of regs left at most of them. I have seen most WalMarts with one case of them, but one WalMart had two cases in. These are mainly all gone, except for some RAy Allen and Webber and Marbury. Targets have gotten some in as well. Again, there are a few regs left over. You don't see any Lebron or Yao regs much though.

Texas33 weren't you looking for hockey variants???
I have a Lecavalier and a Richter that you can have for cost($22 for both) if you want to meet up somewhere and you need these 2.

Well I check quite a few WalMarts in my mcfarlane hunting trips.
I can say for sure that the Baytown WalMart got them in, El Dorado WalMart in Clear Lake area got in 2 cases, WalMart on Fairmont got in 2 cases, Walmart on I-10 and Freeport got in a case, Kemah WalMart got them in, Shaver St. Walmart in Pasadena got them in.

I can actually only think of a few in my area that have NOT gotten the NBA 5 out yet. One of those is the WalMart in Crosby.....
The lady there ordered two more cases of NFL 6, which someone beat me to unfortunately, so all that was left were regs. There are now 28 Sportspicks hanging around there of which none of them are probably being bought any time soon. I doubt that NBA 5 gets there any time soon. There are a few more that have not gotten them in yet on the East side. I'd say if they havent been out on the pegs, they just haven't gotten them in yet. Seems like the WalMarts were putting out virtually every single toy they had in stock the last few days.
I am only missing 3 chase figures from NBA 5 to have a complete set...unfortunately one of those is Lebron James...with the other 2 being Marbury and Allen...
I'm just afraid that NBA won't be as prevalent as NFL was, so it won't be as easy to find those last 3.

Just got back from the Galleria guys and it looks like Santa left me some presents at KB Toys. The wife and I stopped in to buy my boys some toys for being good today so of course I had to do some looking.

It looked like a tornado had struck the place so I wasn't expecting to find anything. To my surprise though fist thing I see is a opener Retro Rolen hanging right in front so I grabbed it...not bad. Started flipping through them, variant Rolen in the back. I thought that was it but as I moved a fallen Peppers out of the way I flipped it over and BAM, white one...WHOA!

Anybody ever notice that after the holidays a lot of old SP's start popping up in stores? I saw a ton of hockey today...all from earlier series...like 2 and on...a ton of old/new goalies too...and some early series baseball also...all returned I'm guessing...in fact, they put up an entire new full size endcap to accomodate all these figures...people buy tons of a few certain players and then wait and return them...is that what happens? I also notice a lot of them are hometown/home state guys...(modano, adam dunn, francis, berkman, etc...) That's good for people still looking for older SP's of local guys...I think after xmas next year we are going to see about a thousand yao's on the pegs all of a sudden.... ;)

Hey Texas33...sorry you didn't see any...I did see quite a bit of them near the spawn stuff...not where the sp's normally are with the sports cards...did you check the I-10/Bunker Hill TRU yet? Well it looks like I won't be out at the Market Place until next weekend guys :( I was planning on at least being there this Sunday but I went over there today and they hadn't even put my gates up. They told me last night it'd be up but when I got there today, nothing. He told me they ran out of gates and won't be getting more in until Monday...what the hell!

Oh well I'll still be out there Sunday around 1 or so to clean the area up and get it ready for my move in. NFL Day UPDATE:You know what I just realized guys? We're all a bunch of grown men that's skipping work so we can get a chance at buying some toys...hahaha...that's to funny!For those of us that have little ones, If I didn't know any better you'd think we were the kids in the family...lol!

Anyways, here's what I thought we could do on 1/29. As you all know it's going to be crazy at the McFarlane booth so I'd like to get there AT LEAST 2-2.5 hrs early before the gates open. I don't think it'll be that bad a wait since there will be a nice group of us going, not to mention all the other board guys that I'm sure will be there waiting to get in as well. If anyone has a problem with this speak now or forever hold your peace.

As for meeting up, what do you guys think of getting together for lunch around 11 or so to grub first then heading out? Since it's going to be at the GRB and unless anyone else has any other suggestions how does Hooter's on 59 @ Kirby sound to everyone? It's close, on the way and the food is good. That Hooter's also gets pretty busy so I'm trying to eat early enough to beat the "lunch rush" and also give us plenty of time to get to the NFL Exp.

Depending on how many guys are going I volunteer to drive since I have a big ole Sequoia, I can fit 7. We can figure who's riding with me at lunch.

Well, stopped by the tri-star show this morning...what happened to it?? I haven't been to one in about 7 years...but they used to be huge!! I used to be an avid sports card collector so I went to a lot of these shows in the early 90's...I walked in this morning and looked around and thought, "This is it?!" Is it because the super bowl experience is right around the corner? I walked around and recognized a lot of dealers I dealt with in the past...and chatted with some I haven't seen in a long time...It was nice getting reacquainted...

As for SP's, well, there wasn't any...only legacy collectibles were there and they were really expensive, even for the regs...if you had the dough, you could get anything you want...but if you wanted decent deals, then forget it...I found a small table with some texas sp's like yao, carr, berkman, oswalt, cowboys smith, etc...they were pretty fair actually...15 for carr/yao, 12 for berkman/oswalt, 20 for smith(cowboys), 20 for berkman(variant)...not too bad...and the last dealer i saw had sp's at ridiculous prices...25-30 for REG kidd, REG duncan,etc...25 for yao/carr...wow...that's too much...anyway, that was it as far as sp's go...3 dealers...whoever said that the shows are ex*****ve was right on the money...hopefully the super bowl experience will be better...

As for the nba 3 inchers, I have seen everybody except the yao/duncan one...I think shaq/wallace and yao/duncan are one assortment and the other contains the rest...one TRU I went to had 13 shaq/wallace but no yao/duncan...guess someone bought them all!!

Did anyone go out looking today for NHL 7? I only went to the three stores I normally hit when new series hit. I ended up getting a 2 purple Gigueres and a green Gaborik. Only 1 variant per case. Not bad considering who the cvariants are but I would've thought there'd be at least 2 in each case.

As for the meet Thursday, it's going to be at 10am at the Ihop on 59 and Kirby. That should give us plenty of time to eat and get out to the GRB early enough. The Moss and McNabb are due in July and will be $70/dlvd. The Urlacher and Maning are due in August and will be the same price.

The 3in will arrive in two series, first one in August and the second one in October. Unlike the traditional 2-packs we're all used to seeing these will be single packed figures. Series 1 comprises of 12 players and will be $50/dlvd per set. Series 2 comprises of 14 players and will be $58/dlvd per set.
