I am looking forward to UNC-Duke this week. However...there is sadness about the game also. Mack Jay, who is my former boss and friend passed away on Wednesday after a very short illness. He was a Carolina alumni, a Rams Club member, and a Carolina basketball and football season ticket holder. However I know that he will have the best seat in the house in Heaven and will be wearing his Carolina blue.

wednesday night game changes big time with ty out...no way he plays if he has a high ankle sprain...that sucks!!!! of course, i don't think we could beat duke with ty healthy...we dont defend the three, plain and simple, and duke makes a living off of threes and defense...with ty we would have to be really on and without him and our fast break, we are a mediocre half court team offensively...most of the big time programs have joined the movement to a spread offense and with the athletes duke has, it is really tough to defend 5 players that can beat you off the dribble and/or spot up for the three after the help slides over...fsu really should have won that game but they missed tons of open looks...just want all you dukies to know this heels fan won't blame a loss on an injury...i just want to see both teams play against each other with all of their weapons, and it looks like it won't happen...

I still think it will be a very tight game on Wednesday. No matter how hurt or how bad on team is in any given Duke /UNC game - both teams always step it up big time.

Now just to get home in time - I am going to the 7:00 Wake game that night....then break all kinds of traffic violation to get home for the Duke/UNC game.

I guess I got into a little trouble at TRU in Winston this evening :D I looked in the overhead bins as I always do, looking for new wrestling figures. I found a open case of figures thet weren't on the pegs and pulled it down so I could go throught it. I was putting it back overhead and dropped it since it was in a big bulky shipping box. While I was picking up the figures, this rude TRU lady came up to me and said excuse me sir, you can't look up there and you can't pull stuff down. She said that's not to be looked in since they put there overstock in there. I asked why and she got even more of a rude, stern tone basically with the same reply stating I have to go find an employee to ask if I can look up there :rolleyes: I just basicially blew it out since she was telling a grown man not to look up there :p

I checked out the TRU in Greensboro beside of the Fantasy Superstore (porn store)! I picked up another Miller. They had one Miller left, three regular Ovechkin's, one regular Blake, and one regular Malkin. I also looked overhead and nothing. BDK...I read about your experience of looking overhead so I looked around to make certain that no one was around before I looked. I did not want to get banned from TRU.

The Coop 5 is in the Triad now. I went to TRU in Greensboro (beside the porn store) and the scalpers had already hit. The cashier told me that five guys were standing outside when the doors opened. They had a couple of Mantle's (I picked up one)); approximately four Aaron's; one Eckersley, one Sandberg. There were no Cobb's to be found.

We can meet across the street at the Mellow Mushroom for a meal before the game and a cold beverage if anyone desires one. We can figure out how many people are going and order the tickets for everyone. Of course I already know fenwayp...but it would be nice to meet some of the other guys on the board. Baseball season is obviously down the road but we can think about it.

By the way, stopped by TRU in Cary tonight and they had 2 Mantle, 1 Sandberg, 1 Eckersley and a bunch of 3" Baseball. I bought both Mantle's and both Papelbon 3" figures. They still had 2 jason Blake on the pegs, as well as a Malkin and 2 Sakic in a cart by the return desk that will likely be returned to the pegs tonight (these were not mine). Also, they have 1 Eagles 3-Pack if anyone is interested. Bizquit: I saw those at that KMart about two weeks ago...same 11, with one missing...

I was heading to Greensboro and stopped by the TRU on High Point Road (beside the porn store). I could not believe my eyes. A brand new case of Coop 5 was just hanging on the pegs and there it was...the most beautiful Cobb variant! It is the very first time that I have picked up a chase at retail in at least a year. I guess the scalpers knew the truck ran on Thursday night but evidently they had a case in the back from the last delivery. I almost ran to the cash register before someone in the stock room realized that I had a chase and tried to tell me that I could not buy it. If it's the same guy I think it is he should surface in the next couple months at some charity events I have attended. I will be happy to call him out.
I don't think he is an actual cop thou.... among other things besides not returning your helmet. He enjoys making up stories about himself. I think other NC boardies could confirm this is as well. From interviewing with TMP to actually doing customs he's never done.

our boys basketball team is heading to greenville wednesday night to face jack britt out of fayetteville in the 4A eastern regional finals. we beat new hanover last friday night in an awesome game. they were the defending state champs and had the 7 footer going to wake forest. the place was packed and it was great to see a big time high school basketball game in front of a packed house. should be a couple of really good games down in greenville wednesday night.

Admittance is free and there are other "celebrities" as well such as Dave Mirra and some daytime TV persons. There was a big handout in todays Charlotte Observer best I can tell you would only have to pay for parking. Friday could potentially be a parking nightmare since it is downtown at the convention center. Its unlikely that I will be able to make it.

Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett charged with DWI

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Carolina Panthers receiver Dwayne Jarrett’s difficult rookie season on the field has given way to problems off it.

Jarrett, in town for the start of the team’s offseason conditioning program, was arrested early Tuesday and charged with driving while impaired.

Jarrett was pulled over in the Charlotte suburb of Mint Hill at 3 a.m., said police spokesman Lt. Sergio Carrera. An officer spotted Jarrett’s car cross the center line and run a red light, Carrera said. Jarrett later failed field sobriety tests before he was given a breath test.

“The officer then formed the opinion that Mr. Jarrett was impaired by alcohol,” Carrera said.

Jarrett was taken to Mecklenburg County jail and later released on a $1,000 bond. His first court date was set for Wednesday.

Carrera declined to give the results of the blood-alcohol test. A court spokesman said they had not received those documents.

If convicted, Jarrett could face disciplinary action under the league’s personal conduct policy.

“We talked to Dwayne today and he and all our players understand that these types of situations are unacceptable,” Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. “He certainly knows how we feel.”

Jarrett’s agent, Darin Morgan, declined comment.

The Panthers selected the former Southern California star in the second-round of last year’s draft. Three days later, the Panthers released veteran Keyshawn Johnson, believing the 6-foot-4 Jarrett would replace him as the No. 2 receiver opposite the smaller and speedy Steve Smith.

But Jarrett struggled to learn the playbook and adapt to the NFL game. He was beaten out for a starting job and even had trouble getting on the field on game days.

Jarrett was on the inactive list for six of the first eight games. He played more later in the season, but finished with only six catches for 73 yards and no touchdowns.

The Panthers signed veteran receiver Muhsin Muhammad last month, and Hurney indicated Muhammad could serve as mentor to the 21-year-old Jarrett, who holds the Pac-10 career record with 41 touchdown catches.

I told my wife this morning that unc would play clemson in the final and that clemson would win the tourney...glad to see my semifinal predictions came true, but I do not want to see my final prediction come true...clemson is playing well and we barely beat them the two times we played them this year...we have not played our best basketball in the tourney yet, so maybe tomorrow we change that...go heels

luck is me winning the powerball tonight, and taking home $90 million in cash...unc lucky? I don't believe that...would va tech be lucky if they had won that game? because they could have won it just as easily...there were bad calls on both ends, both teams missed gimmes all game, and on the opposite end, both teams hit big shots when needed...the game could have gone either way, and went the way of the heels...I have never believed a game comes down to one play or one bounce...if va tech was the better team today, they should have closed us out when they had the chance...every single play in a game makes a difference, not just one play...

My Demon Deacons hopefully will make the NIT and make a nice run and get some good experience for their very young squad...some STUDS coming in next year should help the Deacs move up significantly over the next 2-3 years. Some NIT tourney experience will do them a lot of good...

Wake Forest has TOP-RATED Recruiting class this year...

On July 26, the sad news quickly spread to basketball gyms across the country.

Many people involved with college basketball sat solemnly on the sidelines after hearing about the sudden death of Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser.
We were again reminded that the games just aren't that important.
Less than six months later, people are talking about coach Prosser and the legacy that he helped build at Wake Forest.

High School, is the No. 18 ranked player in the nation and is No. 4 at his position. Walker, a 7-foot-1 center from New Hanover in Wilmington, N.C., checks in at No. 24 in the country. Rivals.com ranks Walker as the seventh best center in the class of 2008.
Previously, the best class Prosser and his staff signed was in 2006. That six-man group finished 10th in the team rankings. Wake Forest's 2003 recruiting class was 16th in the nation and featured Chris Paul, the most famous player to wear a Wake Forest jersey since Tim Duncan.
Rivals.com National Basketball Recruiting Analyst Jerry Meyer said the Demon Deacons struck gold with the three instant impact big men in the class. No one else can claim that in this recruiting cycle.
"While a lot of programs are scurrying to find one quality big man, Wake Forest is set to sign three big men," Meyer said. "And we're not just talking quality big men, we're talking three five-star big men.
"Making Wake Forest's recruiting class even better is that Aminu, Walker and Woods can play together. Aminu has power forward size but small forward game. Walker is very effective in the high post and Woods is an athletic low post player."
Common bond
Walker committed to Wake Forest on the same day Florida and Ohio State played for the National Championship.
"No other school recruited me like this school has," Walker said on April 3. "My mom wanted me to go to North Carolina, and it was my dream school growing up. But when Wake Forest offered me, I fell in love with it.

That was the only school that I saw myself going to. Coach Prosser, rest in peace, said that when I committed, he opened up a bottle of wine and celebrated the night that I committed. I am glad to be a part of that program."
Walker said one of the reasons he picked Wake Forest over the likes of North Carolina was the relationship he built with Prosser.
"My relationship with Coach Prosser was real close. I never really had a father figure in my life," Walker said. "I was always able to talk to him about anything. He was the only father figure in my life and we became really close.
"It hurt so bad when I heard the news (of his passing). It still hurts. When I get to Wake Forest, I'm going to dedicate every single game to him. Without him, none of this would have been possible. He was the one that offered me the scholarship. I want to give him my thanks and show his family that I appreciate them."
Aminu said he and Woods were roommates on the road with the Georgia Stars, but they grew closer after the passing of Prosser.
"Right after it happened, we starting talking more and bonded more on a deeper level. We shared a bond through basketball, but now we all shared a bond and been through the bad times together," Aminu said. "We can talk to each other a lot more about things."
Walker said the three have formed a special bond that is different than most incoming recruits.
"We're like brothers, basically," Walker said.
Eddie Martin, Aminu's coach at Norcross, said Prosser and his staff - Dino Gaudio, Jeff Battle, Pat Kelsey and Mike Muse - didn't utilize any fancy tricks during the recruiting process. In fact, it was simple human relationships that proved to be the secret, says Martin.
"He was a down-to-earth guy. He didn't carry himself as someone that has a high opinion of himself," Martin said. "That was one of the things that you could sense from him when you sat down and talked with him.
"I remember him saying, 'I was just a measly old high school coach that really had no aspirations of coaching Division I high-level basketball. One thing fell into place and then another thing fell into place and next thing you know, I'm here. And I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world.'
"You understand where his roots were, and it was at the high school level. Knowing that he started where I started – and where I am at now - I think it provided a bonding."

Talk to Aminu, Walker or Woods and they all have one goal in mind: a National Championship. Walker said he knew that the Deacons could be in that position as soon as he gave his nod to the program.
"As soon as I committed to Wake Forest, I started getting in contact with Tony Woods and he was telling me that he was going to choose between Florida and Wake Forest," Walker said. "As soon as he said that, I knew that we were going to be something special. I was looking forward to that. Then when Al-Farouq came on with Tony, I was speechless.
"I know we are going to come in, work hard and do what we have to do to win a national championship."
Aminu said he wants to play with a different mind-set this year, in honor of Prosser.
"I think there is a little more fire knowing that you were the last guy to commit to him. It kind of makes you want to dive onto the floor a little harder and a little more often. I think it's motivating," he said.
Walker shares the same sentiment.
"All Coach Prosser ever said to me was, 'That I can't wait to see you play. I know you'll be a successful basketball player.' I was looking forward to that so much. "I was depressed for a few days. I could barely eat. When I dedicate these games, it is going to be real meaningful. I know Al-Farouq and Tony feel the same way."

In all honesty, I really have always wondered how someone from NC, who has lived here all of their lives, can pull for a private school in Durham that caters only to the educated elite, and has such yankee ties? why not carolina or state early on in your childhood? the only reason is because duke has been great in basketball, right? you picked one winner over another winner, right? it is interesting to compare unc and duke over the last 40 years...both two of the elite teams in the country over that period...why duke over unc? each school has gone through streaks of beating the other, and each has incredible "runs" and championships, etc. Why a small, private school like duke, who has no real ties to NC other than location? What is it about that school that attracts people who did not go to either school? As a child, I pulled for unc b/c my dad went there. i then went there. thus, i love unc. if i did not go there, i would be a unc fan b/c of my family. i want to know why each of you nc boardies who pull for your teams, pull for your teams...

I was born an raised in Charlotte for 22 years and joined the service and left. I grew up watching ACC basketball. Back around 1990 my mother worked with a Duke graduate, so I guess he sort brought me over to the dark side. Actually, his son is the back up QB at Gerogia right now Joe Cox, but anyway my family is all Carolina fans.
