I just noticed something -the real A's uniforms have the names arched on a nameplate, but the letters themselves are not arched. This looks like the actual letters are arched. Whadayathink Ed? Other than that it's awesome! :)

I've been watching him play over the last couple years and he's just a leader that you want on your team. He's a gamer. He's easily become not only one of my favorite players but my favorite catcher. He knows how to handle pitchers and he knows how to handle his business behind the plate. I'm sure you just look at the one home run in two years and think he automatically sucks. :rolleyes:

Kendall's average no concern

OAKLAND -- A faction of A's fans might look up at the scoreboard when Jason Kendall comes to the plate, see his sub-.200 batting average, and wonder why he's still such a fixture the lineup.
Kendall has struggled at the plate, no doubt about it. And he openly acknowledged that fact. A's insiders, however, say that you can't even begin to place a value on what Kendall provides behind the plate. A's manager Bob Geren and Kendall's teammates definitely understand what he means to the team.

"Being an ex-catcher, I think it's the biggest part of the game," Geren said about Kendall's presence behind the dish. "He's a great game-caller, and everything he's doing is helping the team win.

"He's a career .300 hitter, so he's going to get his hits. He's already starting to hit."

Kendall's average has been climbing recently -- he entered Sunday's finale of a three-game series against the visiting Giants on a 4-for-11 roll. But that only got him to .191, and the only time it's been higher was when it crept to .194 on April 24 in Baltimore.

"Kendall is the guy who doesn't get enough credit," said Dan Haren, Saturday's winning pitcher. "The guy calls an amazing game and he prepares so well. He is so valuable, his batting average doesn't matter."

"That's pretty much the biggest compliment you can get," Geren said. "You know how much you mean to the team when your teammates don't care what your batting average is."

Friday's game underscored Kendall's value; he gave his Oakland teammates a spot-on scouting report on Giants starter Barry Zito, and the A's wound up torching Zito for seven runs in four innings in a 15-3 blowout.

Kendall a key to win in opener

OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Geren and his red-hot first baseman, Dan Johnson, insisted that the club didn't take any particularly special approach to facing Barry Zito on Friday in the opener of a three-game Interleague series against the visiting Giants.
But a day after the A's made quick work of Zito, working him for seven walks and seven runs over four-plus innings of a 15-3 laugher, the secret to their success came to light.

Before Oakland took the field Friday, veteran catcher Jason Kendall provided his teammates with an incredibly detailed -- and, as it turned out, incredibly accurate -- scouting report of his former batterymate.

"He explained exactly how Barry was going to pitch guys, how he would approach certain situations, what each of his pitches does and what we need to be aware of," said Johnson, who drew one of four walks off Zito during Oakland's three-run first inning and added a two-run homer in the third.

"And pretty much everything that happened was identical to what he said. It helped quite a bit."

A's hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo, whose job it is to formulate plans of attack against opposing starters, was more than happy to get a little extra help. He also got some from pitching coach Curt Young, who worked with Zito for three years.

"I picked Curt's brain all afternoon," Van Burkleo said. "It was great. Nobody knows [Zito] better than Jason and Curt, so to have their input was really nice."

Kendall, who went hitless in three at-bats against Zito, downplayed the importance of his address.

"If it helped some guys, great," he said with a shrug. "Didn't do me much good, though."

if it were up to me, it would be a surprise fig in the next MLB series.

but I guess at TMP, they plan to make it when Kendall hits 20 home runs in a season (which will be never) :(

unfortunately I think that TMP is saving chase figures for either milestones, or good players without current representation, Kendall is a good player, but he's a good catcher, and unfortunately, being good at a position doesn't always equate to SP's
