He hit .295 last year (including .323 in the second half), I wouldn't say he's washed up, it's called having a bad first couple of months, kinda like Konerko. He was hitting .283 from June 1st until the All-Star break. Nothing spectacular but not bad enough to simply say he stinks.

Kendall pleased with trade to Cubs
Susan Slusser
Wednesday, July 18, 2007
Jason Kendall didn't need much persuading to waive his no-trade clause so that the A's could move him to the Cubs.
"It was actually a no-brainer for me,'' the catcher told reporters in Chicago on Tuesday. "Billy Beane called me in yesterday about 4 and said, 'I don't know how to say this, so I'll cut to the chase. I have a trade.' I said, 'Where is it?' He said, 'Cubs.' I said, 'Let's do it.' "
The A's "are heading in a different direction and this has always been my favorite place to play, and now I get to do it on a daily basis. I'm as excited as I can be.''
The A's will save roughly $700,000 on the remainder of Kendall's salary, having sent cash to the Cubs to cover the rest. (The Pirates are paying $7 million of the $13 million.) Oakland received backup catcher Rob Bowen and minor-league reliever Jerry Blevins from Chicago.
Kendall did not ask for any additional compensation to waive the no-trade. He understands that the A's appear to be retooling with an eye to the future.
"If you've been in the game long enough, it was kind of the writing on the wall,'' he said. "Billy is a very smart baseball man and he was trying to go with the younger guys. I'm not saying they're throwing in the towel, but you can definitely tell. You could feel it more so than anything.
"Billy Beane is Billy Beane. He's smart. When he has something he's going to do, he's going to do it.''
Famed for his durability, Kendall still wants to play every day, and that didn't square with the A's desire to use rookie Kurt Suzuki more often.
"They want to see if Suzuki can catch, and I'm at the point in my career where I'm not ready to be a tutor, and I want to win,'' Kendall said.
In the past year, Kendall repeatedly has said he'd like to keep playing in Oakland, and he doesn't entirely rule out coming back as a free agent, despite Suzuki's promotion.
"Yes, I said I'll keep my options open,'' Kendall said. "But I'm not thinking about that. I'm just thinking about playing here. I've got to see how things play out after the World Series, which, hopefully, we're playing in. Then I'll think about it. There was never anything negative with the A's. There was never any bad blood. Billy did what he had to do."
Many of the A's watched Kendall's debut with the Cubs, especially stopping to watch his first at-bat against Giants starter Barry Zito, Kendall's former Oakland teammate (Kendall flew out to left).

Kendall is gone, but not forgotten. In the clubhouse before batting practice, Bobby Crosby was wearing a T-shirt bearing Kendall's picture on the back and references to the card game Crosby and Kendall played every day. Crosby said he had mugs made featuring the same design.

Deal finalized bump
MILWAUKEE -- Jason Kendall became a Brewer on Wednesday.
The free-agent catcher was to undergo a physical in Milwaukee on Wednesday morning, the final step in securing a one-year contract with the Brewers that includes a vesting option for 2009. The team, which formally announced the signing on Wednesday morning, was to introduce Kendall in an 11 a.m. CT press conference.
The 33-year-old's contract terms were reported by The Associated Press on Tuesday night. Kendall will earn a $4.25 million base salary in 2008 with up to $1 million in performance bonuses: $100,000 for 110 games, $150,000 each for 120 and 130 games, $150,000 for 115 starts and $250,000 for 130 starts.
The option for 2009 would kick in at $4.25 million should Kendall reach the 110-start threshold, $4.35 million for at least 120 starts or $4.6 million for 130 starts.
According to the AP, any 2008 bonuses based on games played would be added to his 2009 salary. The bonuses based on starts would be paid in 2008.
The Brewers are hoping that Kendall is an upgrade over Johnny Estrada, who played injured through most of 2007 and was traded to the Mets this month for reliever Guillermo Mota. Kendall hit a career-worst .242 last season for Oakland and the Chicago Cubs with three home runs and 41 RBIs. He is a career .297 hitter in 12 seasons with a .375 on-base percentage.
Finalizing the Kendall deal scratches one item off general manager Doug Melvin's to-do list before next week's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn. The Brewers' biggest needs are in left field, where they are looking for a successor to departed free agent Geoff Jenkins, and the bullpen, where closer Francisco Cordero must be replaced.
