Medina was ok, I think he is better then Liefeld, or on the same level.

I thought Medina's work sucked majorly, at first. But over time, I started liking his stuff on Spawn. I haven't seen that much of Rob Liefeld's work, but he better be good.

Medina's art isn't bad, I would say, if only he would stop making every detail overly exsentuated. Spawn uppercuts somebody, and his fist has to reach all the way around his entire body while the bad guy's head is contorted into a bending accordion making a full revolution around the northern hemisphere.

Lifeld on the other hand, has admittedly gotten much better with his faces and upper bodies. But once the action begins, his perspectives fall quite noticeably. Keep his panels simple and do-able, no fancy crap.

I'm no Liefeld hater ... however i got a stick up for Medina here ... There is no way they are even close to being on the same level ... Medina, yes his porportions are often crazy but it seems intentional, he just has a crazy cartoony style to his drawings, where as Liefeld, seems to want to draw more realistic (as real can be for comics) and has failed in many attempts

maybe him drawing issue 196, is just to get our expectations too simmer down, and later be blown away by awesomeness..? that being said, i'll reserve my judgement until after i've seen the book.. Todd have made it look good in the past. let's wait and see shall we

Just this thread alone has proven the buzz Liefeld generates.
Love or hate him, the man draws attention and it sells.
Many of you self-proclaimed haters will be picking the issue up in private or attempting publicly to justify your purchase based on "just checking out why he sucks."
He doesn't care, nor do the people who hire him since they are both making lots of money from your hate.

I am assuming the self-proclaimed haters that will be picking up the book will be doing it because of their commitment to Spawn, which is deeper than their hatred for Liefeld.

Most of us buy Spawn whenever it comes out, simply because we're fans and can (for the most part) look past the artist.

As for Medina being "decent" I dare anybody to look at alien head Wanda, or any time Spawn moves and ends up spanning 3 pages with his legs and arms an unintelligible mess, to call him "good."

It's amazing how quickly the boards have become the most negative place I can think of. And rightfully so.

that was one panel in his first issue.

medina was amazing, if you can't figure out what's going on with his panels then there's something wrong with your eyes.

I can say that a lot of my negativity is being fed by the lack of any information coming from TMP here about the future of Spawn. All of recent devlopments that we read about are being told to us here by members of the community, with no confirmation or denial or clarification from Tyler (or other staffers). Some official news would be nice, IMO.

One panel, or many, it shouldn't matter. A professional piece of artwork like alien head Wanda shouldn't have made it into any self respecting comic book.

Try to piece together the fight scene between Spawn and that monster in the house where Sam's son was being held. Hell, scan it and post it here, and we'll see how legible Medina's artwork was.

meh, different strokes for different folks. I loved Medina's style. When he left Spawn, any book he drew at Marvel I picked up (Venon and Sen. Spiderman). His style works for Spiderman; i wish that they would let him be one of the main artists for the book.

As for Liefeld, I get where a lot of folks hate his art. Me, I find it as, when its good, its good. When its bad, well, you all know how that goes. I agree with Pubert, he doesn generate some buzz.

The man has and continues to pimp the comic industry. Pimp, Rob. Pimp.

I'm surprised Todd just doesn't go in and traditionally ink over Greg's layouts. He's very capable of it...but then again, it probably is time consuming.

Despite Liefeld on Spawn I can't deny I'm still excited for future issues, the new upcoming villain, the hopeful return of Redeemer, #200 and it's epicness. I'm still excited for Spawn. Just hating that Liefeld will be drawing it.

I thought it was a joke when I saw the title of this thread. It's crazy that it's true. I don't hate the person, but yea, his art really sucks a lot sometimes.

HOWEVER, I do admit that he can draw some cool stuff other times.

But more often than not, his art is booty.

Ironically, I just read Invincible vol 10 and 11 and in the sketchbook section there's a pretty cool sketch of Invincible's new costume. I thought to myself, "Cool, that's a better one than Cory Walker's. Ryan Ottley is so awesome- wait, it's by Rob Liefeld?? Huh..."

I must admit, that looks perfectly fine!

But are they flying? The background is FAIL, but overall, nothing to object.

Yea. He's definitely improved. He probably has heard how much people think he sucks and started practicing his anatomy more. But, there are those lazy shortcuts he still seems to take. Like the background and the swords.

Also, dig the magical swords that constantly change size. Also how in the last panel, Cap's left arm seems to be growing directly out his back.
