Knoblauch isn't a HOF, he's a joke.

It's just a courtesy vote from a writer that covered one of their teams. Happens all the time.

Oh I know, there's 3-4 people every year that get 1-2 votes from the local writers, but I'd love to hear one of these guys defend their vote.

^ Has a link to an article with official voting totals from mlb.com.

I agree with you about some of the "1 vote" guys, but like others have said it may be more of a courtesy vote for some personal/professional reason by a specific writer who knew that player would not be on the ballot again.

Did I hear correctly that Goose is going in as a Padre?? If so that's the biggest joke I've ever heard. There is only one team he should go in for and they wear pinstripes.

Good to see that Goose got in. The rest went about as expected, although I am suprised McGwire did not see a bit of an increase.

Wait, what? I thought the HOF wanted to have players go in and represent the team they played for the longest/had the most success with? He played about 7 years with the Yankees, more than any other team in his career, won a WS with NY, plus he holds some Yankees team records. If this is true than I will quote one of my favorite athletes of all-time in asking, "Whassup wit dat?!"

Looks like some of the voters don't care about his "involvement" with Andro like so many others have been. Just imagine if another class of voters comes around and he continues to gain ground.

Once again Morris and Trammell got screwed. Maybe Tram should have done some backflips like Ozzie Smith did to wow the voters.

Maybe Trammel should have been ranked by Rawlings as the All-Time greatest defensive player, like Ozzie.

Maybe that would get him into the HOF.

Question

I grew up watching Dale Murphy In Atlanta.... where the Braves lost like a 100 games a Season during most of the 80's, sans 1982 or 1983 if I remember correctly.

Hell, I called the ticket box at Fulton Co. Stadium when I was like 7 or 8 and asked:

"Do You Have Any Good Seats Left For Tonight's Game?"
The Response:
"How Well Can You Pitch, Son?"

Yep, Murph Carried That Team, And Was About The ONLY Reason To Watch The Braves.... Unless You Actually LIKED Watching Horner Do His Jabba the Hutt Impersonation At 3rd Base.

Then The Front Office Traded Dale Away To Philly When They Started Playing Well That Summer Of 1991.... I Dang Near Cried In A Foot Locker When I Heard The News.

Cripes, I Hope He Wont Have To Wait Until The Veteran's Committee To Get In.... If At All.

Mostly all of the pictures I've ever seen have Goose as a Yankee. Especially the top two which I think are classic pics of Goose that are used for many, many reports, etc.

He played for 7 years with the Yankees, was a 4-time All-Star, & won a WS with NY compared to playing only 4 years & 2 All-Star selections with SD. Plus, he came back to Old Timers Day last year and was absolutely adored.

He should go into the Hall as a Yankee imo, no doubt.

Agreed. The fact that Ozzie is in and Tram isn't is a slap in the face to all of baseball.

What is the technicality that makes him go in as a Padre? I don't know squat about the "rules" the HOF has since the whole Wade Boggs Devil Ray situation.

Morris was a very good pitcher for his career. Trammell was a good player and to get in the Hall you have to be more than just good.

I'd find you more credible if you didn't have a Detroit homerism bias. The next thing you'll be saying is Lou Whittaker and Willie Hernandez deserves induction as well.

Shouldn't be about who a player played for the longest or even where they played their best ball but it should be determined by what the majority of the fans remember that person for and in Gossage's case you ask any random person on the street to describe Goose in one word and 99.9% of them will say "Yankee".

Enough Said!!!

I couldn't agree with you more. I feel a little biased since Murph is my favorite baseball player of all time but look at some stats: back to back NL MVP ('82 and '83),5 time gold glove winner,4 time silver slugger and multiple NL All Star,I honestly don't get it.

Unbelievable that these clown voters snubbed Blyleven and John again..I swear these HOF Voters are clueless..

Of course they snubbed Kaat for 15 years so this doesn't surprise me at all but I say it every year at this time...

If Blyleven,John and Kaat each had 300 Wins, would they be in the HOF..It seems doubtful with these clown voters..

What follows is a cut and paste from the Hall's website:

Who decides what team logo will be used on Hall of Fame plaques?
The choice of which team’s logo appears on a player’s plaque is the Museum's decision, though we always consider the wishes of an inductee. As a history Museum, it's important that the logo be emblematic of the historical accomplishments of that player's career. A player's election to the Hall of Fame is a career achievement, and as such, every team for whom he played is listed on the plaque; however, the logo selection is based on where that player makes his most indelible mark.

I didn't read anything that said Goose would be going in as a Padre, my guess is that the HOF will insist on the Yankee cap.

Being named the all time greatest defensive player would certainly help Tram's case. I don't dispute Ozzie being in the HOF. I think he's a deserving candidate. I just don't see how he was a first ballot HOFer while Trammell had his best showing this year at 18%

At the plate, Trammell was the better hitter. He's ahead of Smith in BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, doubles, homers, and RBI's. Smith has 95 more hits and 14 more doubles, but he also had an extra 1,000 at bats or so.

In the field, there's no dispute Ozzie was better defensively, but it isn't like Tram couldn't field a grounder to save his life. His fielding percentage at shortstop is only 0.01% behind Smith's (Tram played roughly 100 games at a position other than SS). And he did win 4 Gold Gloves himself. Smith has more put outs, assists, and double plays, but again he had a longer career and never played any position besides SS.

Again, my complaint isn't that Smith is in the HOF. Its that he's in and Tram is ignored.

I'm not arguing whether Trammell should be in or not. It just gets old when people say Ozzie only got in because he did backflips.

Yankee or Padre I am glad he got in. He was one of my favorite players growing up when he played in SD.

Thank you very much for this section of information, I really appreciate it.

I read in the articles on mlb.com & the HOF's official website saying this induction ceremony "will again have a distinct Padres flavor". The very next paragraph in the article says:

"Rich 'Goose' Gossage, who may be better known for his first tour with the Yankees (1978-83), was elected on Tuesday in his ninth year on the ballot. He'll join his former Padres manager, **** Williams, on the stage behind the Clark Sports Center this coming summer."

With those lines, I am making the (perhaps incorrect) assumption that he will go in as a Padre. I really hope I am wrong, but that is what I think the articles are saying. The crazy thing is, the Hall's website has 2 pictures on it's homepage & 1 in the actual article of Gossage as a Yankee.

Here are the links to the articles:

http://web.baseballhalloffame.org/ne...&vkey=hof_news

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Also, here is an article that describes his "best-known feats" as coming during his time with the Yankees: http://web.baseballhalloffame.org/ne...&vkey=hof_news

(Even the photo gallery the HOF has for him in the above article has 9 of the 13 photos with him representing the Yankees in some way.)
