Thumbs down I finally saw the Godfather 3d poster

I was in the mall today looking for some cheap NBX stuff at FYE......unfortunately, nothing like a sale to clear out everything I need. Anyways, Spencers had the new Godfather 3d poster.........wow, it looked terrible. I know it's pretty accurate to the source, but this one's a bad, bad choice: it's the 1st poster that had nothing but empty space -- it's like buying a $30 empty black box (Don Corleone is pretty small & so is the title). Anyone else seen these in person?

Also, when are we going to hear anything new on these posters...anyone know? We're due some updates soon.

Nah, nothing's worse than that......the poster is just so empty -- you got a small name on the top right & Brando feels like he barely covers half of that rectangle. It just feels like it should only cost $10 or less since they use so little plastic.

The good news is that they've captured Brando fairly well....just a little too simplistic imo.

I was also looking foward to this 3-D Poster as I am also looking foward to the figure. It's a bit dissapointing hearing this, Melvin. Coming from you, I can almost assure that I would not like it either, since we both have very similar taste in collectables. I must also agree that there was no worse poster than the Sex Pistols Man, I saw that thing for sale at FYE for $4.99 the other day and even at that price I didn't care to buy it.

i saw it as well, i have to say it is the worst poster they have made. like you said its just a big black rectangle, simply nothing to it. and i wouldnt be surprised if all posters are cancelled and thats why we have received any news. i dont see the robocop, elvis, or godfather posters selling at all around here. there seriously by the hundreds between all the stores.

Is the promo art a true representation of the final piece in your opinion?

If so, I would consider it. If not, I'll pass as well. I have the movie poster & the design has always been very simple & black. I'll take this over the figure any day, the likeness is much more accurate..

Sounds like he's just complaining about what it's always looked like. So if you like the promo pics, you will probably like the final product.

Compare to the promo pics, yeah -- the actual item looks like that (so if you're a fan of those pics, then you'll prob like the final piece). However, it seems there's something that happens between seeing the promo pics & seeing the actual product. Take for example: even though I've seen those promo pics before, I never realized how "empty" it is until you actually pick up the actual product. It seems that this is just a very lazy (albeit accurate) translation of a movie poster.....besides, it's not even the main poster -- which bothers me also. That Platoon poster better be all sorts of complicated, "forced perspective" goodness.

This is similar to what I thought of the Robocop 3D poster. The pictures of it did look good and I was all set to buy one as soon as I saw the poster. However, when I finally did see the 3D poster, I was disappointed in the way it was painted. It was so damn literal that I just couldn't stand it. Rather than painting it in such a way as to really simulate the lighting in the actual poster, it looks like cheap comic book coloring.

Not only that, had I even liked the 3D poster, there was not one out of the five that I saw that did not have some sort of painting flaw.

I agree. It is a better likeness than the action figure.
