Default If times are too rough on you...?

Would you consider selling your collection?

...should I do it?

Well said.

Even if you are set on selling everything, consider keeping your most prized or top 5 most prized possessions.

Well, you can keep them if you want, but I'm telling you it's hard as hell to digest that plastic when you get hungry.

Trust me.

When it comes down to paying the bills, if you have to, just do it. You can always replace things down the line when things settle down a bit.

Ofcourse I'd sell them all off, I cant eat plastic.... well and not die or have a horrible case of plastic craps.

If you cant make ends meet, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd sell openers and extras, but as far as my comics, movie posters, MOC collection and vintage stuff, hell ****ing no. I wouldn't sell my guns either.

This is what proper financial planning is. You consider things that MIGHT happen 5 years from now and plan accordingly. Save money! Save! You need something to fall back on.

Now, if things got really desperate, like if I had completely tapped out on EVERYTHING, then yeah, gotta eat, you know? But, I don't think I would ever get that far gone.

You can't always plan for everything. I mean, I save like 70% of my paycheck since I don't go out much or just waste money generally and I'm basically all tapped out cause a string of unfortunate events just kept happening right after another.

dont hesitate to sell your collection if it will help you solve your financial burden. someone I know did it a couple of times already. He loved his collection, I bought some of him myself. He just decided on what is best, in my opinion he did the right thing.

there will always be unplanned events. but if you save a little here and there then you should be ok.

Then of course what I have seen it is ppl with cars, houses that takes the biggest hits with unplanned events. I own neither as my life is now and wont for a couple of years .

Being laid off
****, that sucks.

I just replaced my roof and all, I mean every ****ing bit of the plumbing in my home. I had to take out a ****ing loan to do it that I'll be paying off for a long time.

I've never really had the car issue, except one time in college, I didn't have a car for two weeks because I didn't have the right stuff to pull my engine. I constantly maintain my vehicles. Learning how to do all that myself is probably the smartest thing I've ever done. That and finding a girl to marry that actually says things like, "I think the ignition coils on my piece of **** car are going out, where's the diagnostic reader? I need to check."

Thankfully no one is sick and I didn't get laid off.........yet.

All I'm saying is, you need a safety net. I'm not trying to make you feel bad or make it seem like you're irresponsible or anything.

I sold 90% of my stuff in the past year or so, keeping just Muppets, some of my custom stuff, and a few select pieces.......

They are just plastic in the long run, no matter how much emotion you attach to them

mine are mostly still in package for this EXACT reason...
Sell them suckers and get your issues worked out.

re-acquiring them will be a return to what you love about the hobby. It's all in the hunt after all.

Sell em. Just don't expect to get much for them because a lot of people are in the same boat. Things are never worth what you think they are...

Why do you need an opinion on this? Its your stuff. You decide. If you cant pay bills or eat then its a no brainer.

I just needed a second opinion, this is the first time it happens to me.

I don't own too much stuff besides my figure collection I only have a crappy computer lots of books, movies, a dvd player and an old tv (no hd yet folks) I'm not poor or anything like that it's just that this year has started with a rush of "bad luck" for some reason, first my cell phone was stolen, then my girlfriend left me (for some mothereffer) and I got fired, and now I have to move to a new place.

...And the strangest thing is that all this happened on the 1st ...weird luck huh

I did a few years back when we had to move and hadn't yet sold out house. We were paying rent AND a mortgage - and it was tight. I sold off a huge portion of my collection, and it was the best thing I ever did.

Not only for the obvious reason of being able to pay your bills, but it also broke the hold on me as a collector. Now I only buy what I really want (instead of being a completionist) - and I'm much happier than I ever was before.

truthfully, selling my figures wouldn't really net me enough to warrant the hassle of selling my figures.

Thumbs up

I had 10 of the 12 “No Helmet” NFL figures from series 1&2 that I sold awhile back.
Got $900+ for all 10. And now I don’t even remember what we needed the money for.
So I kinda regret it.
But on the plus side, when my wife saw what I could get selling my figures she backed off a little on criticizing my hobby. Now she encourages it.
