Default MIRACLEMAN Making a Come Back?

According to reports out of SDCC Marvel has the rights to the Marvelman/Miracleman property now

Well well - what does this mean now?

Quote:
Naturally there are questions about the more recent-ish Marvelman/Miracleman run from Warrior Magazine and Eclipse Comics by Alan Moore, Garry Leach, Dez Skinn, Alan Davies, Chuck Austen, Rick Veitch, John Totleben, Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham that has been under extreme legal uncertainties since the series ended, mid-way into the latter creative team’s run.

I understand it is Marvel’s intent to publish that as well, and they are currently trying to contact every party involved to come to an agreement over any outstanding issues.

Couldnt get the link to work...however i remember a reading somewhere, that Marvel was after the rights and if they got them , they would revert the name back to MARVELMAN... reprint the old issues and get new collections coming, and hopefully Neil Gaimen will finish his run and then who knows what.. hard to imagine someone else writing this book now

Couldnt see Miracleman/Marvelman as part of the marvel universe though he would need to exist in his own world

I have always wanted to read Alan Moores run on Miracleman. Now maybe I will get to.

the rights have been up for debate for YEARS - turns out the original creator never sold them in the first place for the person to sell them to Todd

I think if they do Marvelman right, it will be a good success. If they put the usual Bendis or Millar on it, it will stink like ****. Hopefully they thought this one better than some of their other books (ie X books, Avengers etc.).

I agree was thinking a lot about who should write this... i say J Michael Straczynski...after Neil Gaimen finshes his run of course

Joe Q said they are talking to everyone who worked on the orginal British strips and the Eclipse stuff about putting together new TPB's and repriniting the first 24 issues from the Eclipse series induvidually, for those who don't have a copy of the ellusive #15. Also form what I've read, Joe Q is very serious about having Gaiman and Alan Moore write new material seeing as Moore has all but abandoned DC. Good news for us MM fans.

On the one hand it would be great if Todd got the rights back to Cog and Angela. On the other hand I think that ship has allready sailed but on the other hand I really want to read Alan's run on Miracleman. So on the other hand I kind a hope Todd's lawyer tells him to fugget about it, so he doesn't screw it up. Gosh I have a lot of hands.

i really wish Todd would have done something with Miracleman instead of using it for the rights to Angela, Cog and Medieval Spawn. Angels is dead so we don't need her. Cog could have been re-crafted as Cain so we would be good there and have you read the Medieval Spawn mini.... don't need any of that (other than for the reprint of issue #9 in that hardcover edition).

I only have two hands

Todd didn't trade the rights to Miracleman to Neil for Angela, Cog & Medieval Spawn... he offered them, and Neil declined, because it turned out that when Todd bought the defunct Eclipse property, it didn't actually contain the rights to Miracleman (as far as I know, but obviously I'm not in copyright law), as Eclipse never actually had them in the first place. They were apparently always held by the original creator of MM, Mick Anglo.

Todd may own the MM logo, but that's about it (again, as far as I can tell... not being a copyright lawyer).

It would seem that Todd still holds (or thinks he still holds) some stake in MM; but I guess only time will tell.

As for Angela, Medieval Spawn & Cog; McFarlane conceded that Gaiman was part owner of Angela, and the courts decided they were co-owners of Medieval Spawn & Cogliostro. That decision was appealed by Todd, but upheld.

i didn't mean to imply he did (if that was for me) i wished he wouldn't have even tried

I think this will be an ongoing debate in the courts for some time, if you include all of the appeals to follow any decision. Todd has money. Gaiman has money. Money buys them lawyers. Lawyers buy them time.

Btw...as talented as Todd is, I would think he could pull something out of his portfolio that could rival anything remotely related to Marvel/Miracle/Mambofruity Man.

Don't understand why he must devote so much time/energy/money rather than crank out something of his own doing.

I thought that Alan Moore was done with both of the big two comic companies.

What was his beef with DC anyway? They made him famous (Watchmen) and rich.

He didn't take a dime from Watchmen and actually hates them for bastardizing his book into a movie. Same with V for Vendetta

I find it hard to believe that when Watchmen was published (and then put into a TPB) he didn't make any money.

I doubt he took any of those things into consideration when he submitted his work for publication and reluctantly accepts his paychecks.

I can see why he would be angry at everyone.

No arguments from me, sir.

Despite his general crabbyness, he is one of the best in the business at what he does.

I loved his movie. The Mindscape of Alan Moore, it's just awesome! I recommend it highly. I rented it from Netflix...
